Red Dawn Remake

As an action movie, it looks solid. I'm betting there'll be more sex in this one.

I don't recall any sex scenes. It's an action adventure movie where the stakes are high. The characters get into intense arguments and bond from survival. But, they don't stop everything to have sex this time around or not that I recall.

I think it would have been funny if that has Vietnam or Cuba invade the US instead...

I'd say Cuba invading is more plausible.

This premise would be great for a comedy. But otherwise? Just ridiculous.

I LOVE Basil Poledouris!!!! For me his scores from the original Red Dawn, the original Conan the Barbarian, and Orca are some of the best in film history. I have each of those soundtracks on my Zune.

Hunt for Red October too.

The only way this would work is if North Korea is merely a puppet ally to China, like Cuba was to Russia in the first film. I swear I saw a Chinese flag in the trailer so hopefully they keep China involved in some way.

If it's JUST North Korea, then this whole thing is ridiculous. What, North Korea would skip South Korea and go halfway across the world (unnoticed!) to occupy a country that has about a hundred times the money, people, resources and land-mass that it has? This whole film is a giant facepalm.

I said that from the beginning. North Korea might have the stronger militant attitude towards Communist Superiority over Capitalist Imperialism, but China has the superior numbers and military equipment. Honestly, together they would be a frightfully effective force should that ever happen.

Drew Mcweeny is the one critic who's movie reviews i agree with...at least in 95 % of the cases.
He reviewed Red Dawn recently and this line definately is in line with the clip.

So why hire cameramen who are going to make it impossible for me to see anything?

We've reached the point where this is a real issue, and it's gone well past a stylistic tic now. If I took any of the action scenes from "Red Dawn" back in time and showed them to a director or a cinematographer in the '50s, they would be completely unable to decipher what they were looking at. When did camerawork that would have gotten you blackballed from the system in the golden age of Hollywood become the norm? At what point does cinematic language reassert itself so that I can actually see the stunts and the fights and the geography of the goddamn room again? Shaking the camera to the point of visual incoherence does not convey energy, and it does not make me feel like I'm in the middle of the action. Bradley worked on both of the Greengrass "Bourne" films, and I feel like he picked up some very bad habits in the process

As someone who absolutely loathes shakey cam action scenes , i'll be skipping this one.

North Korea is a joke. It's military is nothing but aging Soviet leftovers. Aside from invading South Korea (which would be suicide for them), they have no military options.

The idea of them invading Japan would be stretching disbelief.

Them invading America sounds like the premise of a South Park episode.

The absurdity of it is half the movie's selling point.

N. Korea invading The United States is laughable, literally. The audience last night mocked the concept. It'd be the equivalent of Iran invading Russia or Nicaragua invading Mexico. Not only is it impossible, it's downright suicidal.

Maybe NK is really badass in their world. The only reason the whole stupid debacle exists is because someone was afraid they might upset the Chinese. Just mentally substitute China for NK when you watch it, problem solved.

My guess will be a few things will be set up to make the situation more plausible..just like the original did....IE Korea somehow reunites the peninsula etc..

That's my thought...plus they could add in some sort crisis in the Middle East which cause oil shortages. If I remember correctly, it was a food shortage that sparked off the hostilities in the original.

Meh...I wish they wouldn't have caved in on changing the villian, but it's understand why they did.

I read some where that the whole plot revolves around

a device that the invading country invented that can break into our security systems, leaving them with control of our weapons, and that the little town heroes have to find the device and get it from them and into CIA's hands to reverse the damage

But I agree, should have been China, but alas, Hollywood is full of chicken feces.

OMG...I hope this isn't true. One of the things I loved about the original is they were guerilla fighters set to resist occupation. The notion that Americans were guerillas fighters in their own country was what set the movie a part.

This just sounds like something from a video game...:whatever:

Saw it back in May and everyone so far has it right. The movie is extremely generic and the action is nothing special. The plot is nonsensical too.

The only redeeming quality is Chris Hemsworth and his arc through the movie. The ending is somewhat shocking in regards to his character too.

So, what happens to the dude from The Hunger Games?

I thought I saw a glimpse of him being a suicide bomber in the trailer.

Bumping this thread, does no one care?

Also just saw a small bit of a tv spot during the Bears/Titans game. Star Spangled Banner played over clips

It might get a small Thanksgiving bump, but it'll likely crash-and-burn like last year's Darkest Hour. The latter was a Christmas Day release, but I rest my case.

The trailer is awfully generic, and it's no wonder MGM ditched it and FilmDistrict was left to pick it up for distribution.

The trailer for it was mediocre and the track selection for it was baffling and bizarre. It threw me off completely.

I see the film underperforming.

I saw the trailer for the first time during the Bears game yesterday as well. It really wasn't anything special and that disappointed me. I absolutely love the original and had high hopes for this one. Probably going to be disappointed ...

I'll be there opening night, though.
