Red Dawn Remake

Decent, straight forward action flick. Nothing wrong with that. It's good fun.

I love how MGM unloaded the remake to FilmDistrict (and trying to disown it), but their name is still on the film.

Saw this today and liked it...as a child of the 80's I watched and rewatched Red Dawn because one day it might be real...until Rocky punched Russia's supersoldier and gave them democracy

Haha - The last two pages or so were a great read.

I never really watched the Sheen one and so didn't really know much about it. I saw this because of Hemsworth and Palicki. I think Hemsworth and the guy from Hunger Games were the best actors. The ending is shocking and sad but it was a great movie. Just too bad people are not giving it a more of a look.

Well this was disappointingly bad. Did they ever once attempt to explain why North Korea sent a massive invasion force to Spokane? Near as I can tell it was about evil corporations or some such, and they took over the whole country because the entire army was overseas or some nonsense.

Incredibly unbelieveable, illogical, poorly developed and structured movie. The action was okay.

But ugh.

Pretty much any attempt at emotion fell flat, and the speeches in particular were laughably bad. Or maybe it was just the acting.

Ugh.

I still haven't seen it yet. It's on my Netflix queue but not high in priority. Mostly I want to see how (poorly) it stacks up to the original. Not that the original made a whole lot of sense or explained how the Cuba/Russia/China alliance was able to pull it off but it was an enjoyable 80's hysteria action movie anyways.

The original is an 80's gem this looked like grade B garbage to me, but who knows I'm not a huge buttkisser of Hemsworth like most people I mean I like him but I don't think he's amazing or anything.

To be fair, he's barely in the movie, and this was a paycheck movie for Chris. He filmed this way before Thor.

I know that he did, but to me it's the same as Cabin in the Woods, his being in the film doesn't really make it or break it at all.

Yeah. I think Chris is still young enough to prove that he is a good actor. Some times it comes with age. I think Leonardo DiCaprio has always been a great actor but I think he got better as he got into his 30's.

Matthew McConhehey (sp) is probably at the height of his abilities NoW with his excellent performances in Mud and hopefully Wolf of Wall Street and Dallas Buyers Club.

I'm really unsure how any of that passed right over my head since I was trying to get what they were saying due to having to pay attention to body language since very very little english was ever spoken and there were no subtitles to get that information from. It almost seems like subtitles may have been in there at one point and then were taken out or something.

Were you watching an edited for TV version? Or maybe a bad bootleg? Because I've seen the original dozens of times and every time anyone's speaking in Russian or Spanish there were subtitles.

I've never watched the remake, and have no real plans to ever do so. I dislike most remakes in general, and don't want to see a childhood favorite of mine get butchered thank you very much.

I think you may be misinterpreting some of the things from the original, like the amount of training they had. I was always under the impression that Jeb & Matt's dad was some kind of a war hero or survival nut, and he taught his boys to not just survive in the wild, but also to fight. He talked about pushing them when they were younger, making them want to hate him, but it was for their own good and he hoped they now understood why. But the only part you seem to take from that conversation was "Avenge me!" But like I said, that was my interpretation of it. Jeb & Matt were trained, unofficially, by their dad, and they trained the rest of the group.

The Soviets had to invade due to the failure of the Ukrainian wheat harvest, if I recall. It was obviously stretching suspension of disbelief, but it's not the most far out scenario. China was actually America's ally in the original movie, and the Soviets are stated to have used nuclear weapons to wipe out major cities.

This movie's premise just fails entirely. North Korea invading the United States sounds like the premise for a good South Park episode.

Even China invading the US right now, is fairly hard to take seriously. At least in the 80's, the US and the USSR really were on the verge of nuclear war.

I recently brought the original red dawn for five bucks at sams club

I'll have to rewatch the original before I see this remake then. Make it a more fair comparison.

If I recall correctly, they never really explain the Soviets' motivation for invading. They asked the Colonel about it after they first met and he just kinda shrugged and said "Two toughest kids on the block, I guess. You know sooner or later they're gonna fight. Maybe someone just wanted to remember what it feels like."

I still think the plot should have been the combined forces of North Korea and China, much like the Soviets & the Cubans in the original. The North Koreans would be the political driving force behind the attack, and the Chinese would provide the man power. Technically China might be our allies now, but they are also a communist country. And the whole political side of the story is Communism vs Capitalism.

But I have no real plans to see the remake anyway. From everything I've read and heard about the remake, it lacks all of the charm that the original had. I might watch it if it happens to come on TV, but as I currently don't have cable that seems unlikely. And I'm not planning on renting or buying the DVD.

Honestly, never said this about a movie, but it actually makes me angry that anyone would enjoy this movie. So if youve posted anything positive...know that I am angry with you!

I think it has a legit claim to the worst movie of all time..

I hope you're referring to the remake & not the original.
