Red Dead Redemption Coming To The Big Screen?

Gah, I need to play this game. I love westerns and this always looked awesome. It's cool to hear Pitt could be in the film.

As much as I'd like to see an RDR movie, I'm taking this rumor with a grain of salt. I can't imagine this film being made at the moment.

This is the first time that I can think of that a video game movie has a good chance of turning out well, because RDR had such a great story with fantastic characters. It's cinematic to begin with. That said it does seem a bit redundant in concept, since the game was so heavily inspired by many Westerns.

I'm 50/50 on this. One one hand, the game plays just like a movie, so why make a film out of it? On the other hand, it would make an awesome movie for that same reason. And I also like the choice of Brad Pitt as the lead.

This.

Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Marston looked like Karl Urban. :yay:

Hurm...I wonder if they'll stay true to the ending.

Landon Ricketts : Clint Eastwood

Seth Briars: Steve Buscemi

You fool! There's only one dude that can play Landon Ricketts, and it's not Clint Eastwood.

[BLACKOUT]Hint: It's Sam Elliot[/BLACKOUT]
[Blackout]Sam[/Blackout] isn't as Badass as Mr Eastwood :o

Apparently Red Dead Redemption is going to get a feature film and the front runner to play our favorite gun slinger is none other than Brad Pitt

SWEET! All we need now is a director who's good with westerns! Who do you guys think could work? I'd go with Clint Eastwood or maybe even John Hilcoat (who also did the 30-minute short film using gameplay and cutscene footage from the game!)

I'd cast Will Smith.

Sorry but John Marston isn't black. This is what he looks like in the game:

Come to think of it, I can definitely see Brad Pitt playing him. He might not LOOK like Marston, but I can see him acting and talking like Marston!

So what's stopping Will Smith?

He's black. John Marston is white. It wouldn't WORK. Besides, Will Smith already DID something that took place during the Old West, and it SUCKED. It was called Wild, Wild West.

Yeah with Jonah Hex and Wild Wild West, it seems that steampunk westerns are not a very well liked sub-genre. I wonder if Cowboys and Aliens will go down that same road.

On topic though: I have no idea whether this'll be good. I have checked out the game a few times, and it looked to be pretty awesome and advanced and all...but movie-material? I'm not really familiair with the storyline if there is one. What's it about? Revenge? Buried treasure?

heh, showin' your true colors, eh Lord?

For the record, I'm not racist AT ALL, if that's what you're implying. I just think it would be inappropriate casting. John Marston's not the character who'd crack wise and use modern day slang. He's a very serious, determined, yet wise character, and Will Smith doesn't fit the bill properly for that kind of a role yet. Idris Elba playing Heimdal in Thor next year is one thing in regards to black actors playing characters who are normal portrayed as being white, but seriously, don't go jumping the gun just yet, Aesop.

i just don't think that the "genre" has been in good hands thus far.

IMO, the story for the game is really weak (or at least its execution), and John just runs around saying "i got no choice!" and thats pretty much as deep as his motives go, but its still a fun game.

John is an outlaw who is forced by the feds to track down and kill the members of his former gang, who had left him for dead some time before. While trying to track them down, he gets forced into playing both sides of a revolution in Mexico, among other things.

Hahahahahaha, you must have missed I Am Legend completely.

The thing is, I think Will Smith (while I LOVE him as an actor) has the wrong kind of baggage to be the right choice for the flick...that baggage being 'Wild Wild West".

While I would prefer that the character's race not be changed (regardless of what race that might be); i would not be opposed to it if the actor was the right one for the job. I could see the racial dynamic between a black John and the white Feds being interesting, if handled properly.

Yeah, it's "The Wild Bunch" just not as good.
