Red Dead Redemption

One thing I think this game excels at is atmosphere. In GTA 4 I liked to cruise around, but never felt completely sucked in. I never stopped and stared in store windows, or walked along sidewalks...everything just felt slow and could get somewhat dull if I did. In this game I do stop and walk around town. I ride around the desert, and even tho it's pretty lifeless for the most part, I love it. Just running around on a horse shooting coyotes, and looking for a better horse can suck you in so easily.

I also think it helps that the voice acting is very, very nice. It really brings life into the towns. As does all the various none mission things that happen, like some horny guy carrying one of the ****es from a saloon down the street and you having to stop him, or someone robbing a random house. The gameplay and physics are also top notch. I read about you guys saying you lassoed and carried guys down the street, but actually doing it is another thing.

Heh, one weird moment I had tho was in tumbleweed. I was exploring that old mansion after a mission, and found myself walking through it slowly and peering around corners even tho I knew there was no danger in there. Then I thought of how awesome it'd be if a zombie popped out lol. Something about how that run down place looked just made me think for a second that that'd be an awesome place to hold out as zombies poured around it.

Tumbleweed gives me the heebie-jeebies. That town scares the crap outta me. Which I guess proves exactly what you are saying. The atmosphere here is top notch.

So, I've been doing my best to hunt myself some boar above Hennigan's Stead. As you may all know, that's where the cougar's reside as well. I've lost three goddamn horses up there, and you have to be on your toes 24/7. Anyway, I heard some shooting up ahead and looked up to see two lawmen chasing after a crook. I popped the crook in the leg and the lawmen finished the job.

They sauntered over to me and tipped their hats. They started to thank me when from out of NOWHERE a cougar jumps out of the bush and destroys the one officer. The other guy drops his gun and starts running for the hills. I did the same, shooting frantically behind me, fleeing for my life.:o

I love this game.

Completely agree...There are parts in this game that give me knots in my stomach...Like when you get closer to a bounty and once you either loot the target or hogtie his ass...the chase back to the station gets intense.

Or when you are alone at night hunting in Tall Trees or hanging around Blackwater at night...creepy stuff

Im just not good at poker, even though they show you how to do it in the game, I cant grasp it...However I keep winning in liar's dice.

Has anyone pulled out a gun at a bar where poker & liars dice is being played and survived the certain onslaught of gunfire?

Hehe, that's funny. I suck hard at Liar's Dice and yet I am the best at Poker.

Oh boy, the missions get pretty boring towards the end. Everything seems to build up and get better as the game progresses and then its like your struck right back to the tutorial stages

I LOVE Liars Dice. Thats my favorite. I dont know what the heck Im doing in poker most of the time, but Im learning it.

With poker, the best strategy is to play the least hands possible. Keep folding and and eventually everyone will eliminate each other until you're heads up with someone. Then, you just play the damn thing.

I've been so busy with treasure/hunting/sharpshooting/compiling outfits, I've been taking my sweet time with the main missions. I'm just getting to Irish. A supposed drunkard privy to guns? Sounds like fun.:)

Actually, the best strategy is to cheat and be lucky enough to eliminate one other player in a big hand. Then you can pretty much bluff everyone to fold if they doubt their hands at all.

For me the strategy depends on the hand and the player. If they fold constantly, they're scared players so you have to bet small and then big at the end to get the most out of them. Then there's the high rollers that have screwed be once or twice before...you just have to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em....

As Kenny Rogers once said.

I just had my battle against the Fort and tomorrow I'm off to Mexico. This game is way too fun.

I'm getting real good at duels. Now i can shoot the gun out of the guy's hand with ONE shot.:awesome:

I like to shoot the gun out of their hands...chase them outside of the town and hogtie them down. I then go onto cut their throats lol...usually in an area where no eye witnesses are around

My favorite? Shoot out both legs and the gun out of their hand. Then they try and crawl away and eventually die.

I try to go for a nice man way. But there was one time where I accidently shot my horse so as I was running through the desert I came across this guy with his horse in the middle of nowhere. So I killed him and took his horse and continued my journey.:awesome:

My strategy to duels is to shoot the guy in the back as he's walking to his position. :awesome:

I'm glad a buddy of mine told me about it, otherwise I never would have found that guy.

Wow. I started playing today with $4k, now have $0. Blackjack and bounties can go **** themselves.

I'm glad they put that in there. I finished the story and it felt incomplete untill I found that guy.

Been there on both parts. I saw some poor guy being attacked by a pack of coyotes. I target one nearby and as I pull the trigger he passes right under my horse. So I ended up shooting my own horse in the head while I was on it lmao. Sucked too because I really liked that particular horse.

On the other hand I've lost horses a few times now and have killed a few ppl out in the middle of nowhere to take their horse. The problem comes in if their horse takes off running after you shoot the guy off of it.

As for where I'm at atm (since everyone else was mentioning), I just finished the fort as well tonight and just entered Mexico. I plan on messing around and finishing single player, then I'll get into online. I tried it once already, but just seemed to be a cluster ****. When I started off everyone was just running in random directions inviting eachother and rushing the same pieces of land over and over. I wasn't familiar with the game yet, and I'm sure the multiplayer is awesome, but I just had no clue wtf was going on.

Ah. So you can actually shoot the horse you're riding. I always wondered about that... just not enough to waste a horse.

I played this game for 10 hours straight my first night.

I just couldn't put it down...

Right now I'm playing more Poker than missions in RDR, and so far I've cleared out the Poker tables in the MacFarlane Farm, Armadillo, and Thieves' Landing. I have heard that Blackwater is alot tougher in Poker, though.

I unlocked the Legend of the West outfit. Those legendary beasts were pushovers.

Knifing a bear was a pain, they kept running away from me.
