Refn Teaming with Gosling for Drive

You know you want this sexy steel-book Blu Ray. It's only available in the UK though.

me want!

Well it's nice and all to get a decent cover, but the extra content is still the same, which is the real lame end of the deal...

yeah I hope Refn is a man if his word and we will be getting another edition soon.

Actually, I just did a little bit of research and found out we also have this coming out next week :

Which... IS kind of awesome, even though I already own Valhalla Rising and Bronson. Too bad they didn't include the Pusher trilogy.

Includes a poster, the novel and OST CD + a documentary about Nicolas Winding Refn.

I remember Gosling describing his character as someone that had seen too many movies and thinks he's the superhero of his own action movie. I guess him putting the mask on is meant to symbolize that.

Not only that but there were other hints of this as well. Like when he kisses Carey's character in the lift and all other lights go off and it just focuses on the two of them, very movie like, and I personally thought that was coming from the Drivers mind when the scene went like that. Of course it was back to reality when he had to take that guy out.

I thought Gosling deserved some sort of award nomination for this movie while he doesnt say much. His whole performance is in his body language especially his eyes, there is quite the intensity in those eyes.

I thought so too. Though other than Brooks being snubbed, the lack of love the film is getting from the academy isn't surprising. Because you know, God forbid there is something different and new.

You guys need your fix on awesome Drive posters? I'm more than willing to help. :woot:

Ha, we Brits get the best steelbooks :D The Captain America one over here is gorgeous too.

I just hope Criterion can get a hold of Drive one of these days.

Just watched the film again last night, second viewing for me.

Wow. I was kinda lucky in that I saw nothing, aside from a cover and maybe some screenshots, of this movie before watching it. I'd just heard it was great and well worth checking out, and that was an understatement.

Yeah, I think I'll double dip on this when the Special Edition is eventually released. Hopefully with a cooler cover, one that fits the style of the film.

I may be way behind on this, but I recently read the book after seeing the movie. My interpretation is now that this movie, as awesome as it is, is actually the
movie Manny wrote about Driver's life.

Hahah, nice. Hadn't thought about that. :D

I saw this movie yesterday and thought it was great, not at all as I imagined it would be.
I did however thought the elevator scene was a bit strange, the guy who is there to kill them just stands and waits while they are making out?
I also thought the soundtrack was pretty cool.

I was thinking about the elevator kiss the last time I watched it and I think it's possibly that the kiss didn't actually happen. If you watch the scene, the lighting and the atmosphere changes as it happens, almost like it's a dream. I think it's possible that he just pushed her behind him to protect her, then fought with the bad guy, and the whole kiss sequence was just a bit of symbolism.

I could be totally wrong though. Just a theory.

Nah, that's just what Refn does at times. He's done atmosphere changes for a romantic moments in movies like the Pusher for example.

PS. Still no word on the improved Blu-ray? Me want director's commentary!

Does anybody have any news on a special edition dvd coming out?
But I read the book really good the movie was pretty loyal.

Also the sequel to the book is called Driven and it was released earlier this month havnet picked it up yet.

Refn has talked about intrest in a sequel he could adapt the book he said hes not against it.

The reason why he kissed her is because he knew it may be the last time he'd see her. Simple as that. And he knew she would pretty much be shocked by him straight after when he beats the guy to death in the elevator, so he made the most of the moment.

He kissed her as a way of not letting on that he knew who the other guy in the elevator was. Of course he liked her, but he was attempting to play it cool to throw off the assassin.

I would absolutely love it if Refn and Gosling did a sequel, loved this movie can only imagine a sequel being just as amazing.
