The Dark Knight Rises Release date for the TDK Sequel; July 20, 2012

Great day. So happy we finally have a release date!

Let the journey begin!

I think it's pretty much a given that Nolan is writing and directing the sequel. WB just doesn't want to confirm his involvement until July or August after Inception comes out.

But this is good news. WB must've seen the script-in-progress and liked it so much they set a tentative date for the movie.

Wow... great news! So its Spidey vs Avengers vs Batman!

Some of you people are talking like we don't already know Nolan is directing this movie.

We do. It's already been announced. The entire world knows it now. Catch up.

The Joker is the main villain. The actor is signed.
Don't ask questions just wait for Comic Con this year to get your confirmation.

Are you being serious, or is this a joke?

Great news with the release date, BTW.

This is why I find TDK fans some of the most annoying people on this board. The first thought is "Yes, DC killed all the buzz from the Thor pic!"

Why can't we just be happy that TDK has a release date, and we also got a taste of our first live action Thor? If we're real comic book fans, if one film deservedly succeeds, then we all win. I don't see why it has to boil down to "My movie is better than yours" mentality. It sounds so childish.

Yeah but my movie is still better than yours, if you don't like batman fans, go to another section of the hype.

I know you tried to be cool, but this statement doesn't even make sense from a scientist's perspective. :lmao:

Two Komodo dragons poisoning each other is more like it. :hehe:

It was on Discovery. Reefs were spewing out white sauces and eating adjacent rivals.

Iron Man 3?

Exactly... May 2013 will more than likely be occupied by a still hot franchise. Memo to Sony/Fox, elevate your game or get your Marvel properties the **** out of summer... :cwink:

Or better yet, give control of those properties back to Marvel. Would be nice to see Spidey in Marvel's hands. Unfortunately I think Fox has pretty much run X-Men into the ground already at this point.

Where's the evidence.

This interview is as good as we have right now: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocom ... ory-1.html

Don't you know that it's impossible to like both DC and Marvel?

EDIT: Nevermind. I'm an idiot.

You mind highlighting the passage where he explicitly states that The Joker is the villain and they have the actor signed? I don't feel like reading through that entire thing.

I'm not talking about that. I wasn't the one who claimed that.

Just caught that. Haha my bad.

I'm all for a return of The Joker, but I can't picture Nolan using him as the main villain again.

When the sequel was originally written, the Joker was to return and the story was supposed to be the trial of the Joker. The idea was that with the Joker detained and waiting to be tried for his crimes, there was no threat of danger but the truth of the matter was that he would be more dangerous than ever. With his henchmen still doing his dirty work, the Joker had nothing but time and safety being locked up by the very people he was trying to kill.
That idea has been totally scrapped.
Instead, a new criminal will be introduced that will offer a different type of threat. When compared to the Joker, the "main" villain will appear entirely different. Rather than taking credit publicly and going on mass killing sprees, this type of villain will be more meticulous and undetectable.
Don't expect the new "guy" to be anything like the Joker or any thing you've ever seen. He will always be a step ahead of Batman and the police because he will use Batman's "crimes" against him. Making the people of Gotham love him to force out Batman into his well devised plans to make his crimes seem, to the people, like the right thing to do.
The virals will help, those who can't perceive this, understand much more about the new villains intentions and I can't wait till summer '11.

how do you know this information?

does anyone know what villian this person is on about

Nice, a 4 year wait (well, 2 years now). Apparently and hopefully Jonah Nolan and Goyer have already been working on the main ideas (at least) since 2008, which gives them one more year of brainstorming.

This is good, because TDK was such a big success, that they'll need this extra year to top the story (not very difficult for this creative team methinks) and the Ledger effect (truly a deed if they somehow do it).
