Chris

Your religion?
Christian
What is your proof for the existence of God/Allah/The entity your faith is centred around?
A few things. First and foremost was baptism, and it's hard to describe (trust me I've tried lol). Best way I could think of it is like warmth and light trying to burst out of your chest lol...sounds stupid but I felt like an entire world's worth of weight was lifted off my shoulders when I was coming out of the water. That night, apparently (don't remember this part as well), I talked pretty far above my age (was 13 at the time), and started talking about parts of the bible I'm not sure I read at that point.
Also various prayers answered. Best I can remember is when I developed a lump on one testicle, and started peeing blood, and was in pain. It got worse over the years (from around 14 or so to 20), and I was too embarassed to tell anyone. Finally one night I was convinced absolutely I had cancer, and prayed very hard to get over it. A few days later and since then I have had no blood in my urine, the lump has gone to near none existance (still there but shrunk dramatically), and I got an X-ray and checked out recently (this year), and no cancer

. Also the doctor was in shock when I told him how bad it was before, and he said that there was no need to have any surgery to remove it (also it's not noticible as it was before). Overall I am feeling better than I have in a long time, and experiencing no pain or sickness in the least. Also I've had various prayers answered, some might call it coincidence, but most I just can't see it as such because they were too on the spot too close to that prayer.
What importance does religion have in your life?
Very important.
How free are you in your beliefs?
Free, totally my choice. My mom hadn't went to church since I was 1 or 2. At around 7 or so a my friend and I went to a local Christian church and later I liked it enough to talk my whole family into going.
How do you deal with God/Allah/Other?
I do see him (God) as all powerful, and always right. How I look at it is God made everything (my opinion of course), from every atom in our body, to our soul, to our friends and family, the food we eat and air we breathe, and therefore is his right to do with as he pleases and luckily that has been to do good. Also I think since he seperated light from dark, good from evil, our concepts of what's good comes from him so in that alone I think he's made a difference from us not just doing whatever feels good, but grasping morality and helping others and depriving ourselves of feeling good for doing good. Only thing I can think of to fall into the 'ritual' part is taking communion, past that it's just gathering at church, whether it's a building or a friends house.
What do you think the connection between religion and the government should be, if any?
I think the two should be seperate myself. Religion doesn't need politics mucking it up, and it seems to only make it seem bitter to non-religious ppl. I think Government should deal purely with physical and material needs and such, as education in schools should stay out of where we come from (religion vs. evolution), and let the kids and adults in their life choose for themselves instead of having to hear one way or another in a class room.
What do you think is the connection between religion and democracy?
I think it's the same as with other institutions, there is no clash until someone of fantatical proportions makes it clash. Christianity teaches to not judge or make fun of another, to love one another, not to force Christ's teachings on others but to lead them to it if they will listen and so on. All of this is accepted by choice of those who believe and have faith in it. In reality it should promote democracy and love. Some however (same with all faith's, people's, and ideal's) will take it to extremes and believe anyone not with them needs to be forced to believe it. Those few who say they are followers of a religion (yet not practicing or following it's teachings) make it seem as if an entire religion is encroaching on democracy and trying to do away with it. Most of the actual religions and teachings themselves do not clash with democracy, but individuals who go to extremes saying they are following that religion can.
