You do know the Jeff Goldblum one was a remake, right?
Year or two ago Fox was working on a second remake of The Fly. Dunno what happened to that project.
I was thinking about this too. I was hoping a much more serious Wizard of Oz that is more faithful to the book but you're right...the Wizard of Oz is such a masterpiece in cinema that people will say that the original is better by default. Kind of like King Kong, Jackson's remake is better than the original but no one will admit this since the original is a frontier in cinema....even though its really a 2D film (it still has a place in my heart though.)I'd love to see either director take a crack at it, but let's face it, it could be a near flawless movie, and most people would still say it's not as good as the original.
No, I actually didn't know that. I still would like to see a remake get done. I think it could do well at the box office.
After I read this I did some digging around. Nicolas Cage was up for the part(and told E! that he really wanted the part) and a script was getting written. It was scheduled for a 2008 release. It must have gotten scratched.
Mjea. Been done quite many times already.Wow, a remake of a remake, that's pathetic.

Care to elaborate?
its a film noir movie made in the 40's?
Jesus...of course I know the movie. I just don't see a reason to remake it. Boagrt is impossible to replace.
o... well most movies don't NEED to be remade.. but a remake could always be good, or a movie could be made in homage to it with a twist (like cruel intentions and the leo romeo and juliet)
There've been plenty of flicks that payed homage to The Maltese Falcon.
