Remembering 911

So you think just because it would have been difficult, it's impossible.

That's not what I said. It's just common sense. 6 people plan an attack on a U.S. military base filled with highly trained soldiers. The soldiers wouldn't be threatened, the attackers would be threatened. And if the attack was carried out, not all of the attackers would have escaped, if any.

What compounds the tragedy of 9/11 is that it's been made into an excuse to kill even more people, American or not. :down :csad:

true. And this isn't a school shooting.

I think this is huge, world changing stuff because of how not only the ones reesponsible are still up and about, gearing up for another go around, but so much political bull **** is going on too, it's dividing Americans more and more each day... The question in my mind is, are we one big fat paris hilton of a nation now? Is the America I thought was pretty good going down the toilet? I hope not, but it seems that way.

Agreed...Just to clarify.

Everyone here is in fact aware that Bush has been responsible for more deaths because of 9/11 than those actually killed on 9/11, right?

Absolutely ridiculous...

Agree with you, Addendum, but it was still a threat. It doesn't matter what their target is, I don't want terrorists in my country. If they are, they're a threat.

So you think we should stop the war because we went over our kill limit? That makes a lot of sense.

I don't want the war to stop until every single terrorist is dead or in prison. (Preferably the former)

But the "war on terrorism" will never end. It's similar to the "war on poverty", "war on crime", "war on cancer", and "war on drugs"

Sadly, it seems that most of the cats on this thread would rather talk about Paris Hilton.

It won't end, but if the troops are allowed to get the job done in Iraq, major combat will end. I'm tired of people acting like this should be a bounty hunt for bin Laden.

Well said.

I was just starting my junior year I believe. Then this bull happened.

though it was nice to have the day off, the horror of seeing two towers fall like that just...

I knew life sucked, I'm from the bronx where you get beat up for just existing, but I didn't know it sucked that much...

Thank you. Did you see any of this from the Bronx or is that too far away??

I don't believe the words "We should stop the war" ever came out of my mouth...

But I think the bigger issue here is you want a meaningless war with meaningless bloodshed to continue. :wow:

"The war on terror" as said before, won't end. But do lives have to be done away with in the process? I don't think so...

CFE

Well, al Qaeda, which is led by Bin Laden was responsible for the 9-11 attacks. Iraq had nothing to do with it.

Also, it's been 1,593 days since president Bush declared that "major combat operations in Iraq have ended"

The blood shed may be tragic. But not meaningless. There is a purpose for it. Now...you may not agree with the purpose. But that's another issue.

And just how would you fight a war on terror without ending some lives in the process?

Please remember this isn't a "War on Al-Qaida" or "War on bin Laden". It is a War on Terrorism. Just because Al-Qaida carried out 9/11 doesn't mean that other organisations like those in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon couldn't carry out something just as big or even bigger.

And no one could have anticipated the level of insurgency in Iraq.

Wow, by disproving one sentence of my points, you have just utterly destroyed the little basis there was for anything I was saying. I'm so stupid.

Well, it's been proven that Iraq did not have WMD's, which was the major reason for the war. The group "al Qaeda in Iraq" did not exist until after U.S. forces entered Iraq.

As for Syria and Lebanon, the best the groups in those countries can do is attack Israel and then get their asses handed to them by Israel. Not much of a worldwide threat

I suspect most of the world's looking for distractions from all the war and tragedy nowadays though I'll dare say that's how this all kind of began, people were too distracted to see how dangerous it is out there.

Owen Wilson for instance. It's a sad situation for him, poor him, but what I was thinking while seeing all this news coverage for him, and as cliche as it sounds, what about all the dead or wounded soldiers who no one seems to care about. I'll admit I didn't care much about them until all I saw every day was how unfortunate we would be without Owen Wilson to make more movies.

Want my opinion? I don't care anymore. I really, truly don't care. You had someone who died, okay. You mourn. Its your right. But, do I think we should still have entire news-days covered to it? No.
We've got more important things to attend to. We've got lives to lead. Sure, it was a horrible event and I'm not saying it wasn't. But, do I think it deserves to be used as the horrible propaganda tool that its being used as now? No. Because that's what it is now. Propaganda of the WORST kind. THE ABSOLUTE WORST.

And, Memphis, even you should realize this.

:o

Proven? There is evidence they had WMDs shipped out of the country before March 03. I'm too lazy to find the articles right now but I'll get them tomorrow or... sometime.

And you're right, it would be toooottally unfeasible for Syria and Lebanon to launch any kind of attack within 25 miles of their border. I mean, it's not like 9/11 was planned by people halfway around the world or anything.

I'll take that as "you don't have evidence, you just claim that there is"

Yeah, because one day out of 365 to give remembrance to those who died during 9/11 is waay too much to ask of an American, we are waay too busy surfing the internet and whatnot to be bothered.

So no attempt at diplomacy or any un-violent methods?

That's a bit heartbreaking actually.

That people would just prefer to take a human life rather than find a less pig-headed approach...

Based on that logic...how are we any better than them?

CFE

It is. I feel no need to mourn anymore. What's so confusing?
