Talk about Racism

Being alert and watching is one thing. If you're an airport guard, and you see an Arab, screen him as thoroughly and carefully as you do everyone else. If you want to be a little more thorough or careful, fine, your call.

But ACTING is another. Security measures have all been tightened considerably since 9/11 - to the point where when they caught those terrorists with the liquid bombs, they hadn't even boarded the plane yet. Even better - they were able to catch the terrorists on a DRY RUN, before they even planned on blowing up the plane.

Here's a funny story - my dad went to Wisconsin to visit his uncle. When he arrived, his uncle invited him out to a restaurant with a familiar name. My dad realized, "Hey, wasn't this restaurant chain in the paper? Something about a huge salmonella strain?"

His uncle said, "Yeah, it happened weeks ago."

My dad said, "Then why are we eating here?"

His uncle, with a grin, replied, "Because now they're guaranteed to be the cleanest restaurant in town."

This applies to the airline flights. If a person sits next to you on a plane, you can be assured they've been searched and screened. If an Arab sits next to you on a plane, well, then you're doubly safe - because you can rest assured that every airport guard they've passed has personally made sure they are.

See my point?

Except that it was just a few weeks before that some Muslim terrorists were doing dry runs with liquid explosives. It won't be too long before it gets incorporated into clothing.

and then they'll shave their beards and stay for weeks out of the sun to look pale jonty.

you will never be safe again.

Yeah - but not all of those terrorists were Arab. A few of them were white - which pretty much blows the whole "let's only profile Arabs" bit out of the water.

Are we going to have to start screening middle-class white English boys now? I guess my flight's going to have be a little delayed.

I haven't read any reports of any Muslims being detained being white, not that it matters.

You and I weren't there so neither of us can really say if what they did was suspicious or not. It's unlikely that an entire airplane of people are going to go half-cock without reason.

And now you're backtracking.

Did you even READ the report?? It wasn't the entire plane. It was only a few people. Sounds like one of those ripple effect deals. Once one group/family decided to be paranoid idiots, more people that are that way inclined decided to go.

The report would have said more if the men had indeed done anything else to draw attention to themselves.

From what I read, it was most of the plane because a few people raising a ruckus wouldn't be sufficient to delay a flight by much, much less keep it grounded and passagers being removed.

News stories don't always reveal every single detail, because there isn't enough room to print long stories.

The problem here is human rights. Those Muslims have a human right to speak their language. The reason it freaked the passengers out was because they couldn't understand it.

The "speaking Arabic was suspicious" is a point that really hits home to me - I'm of Irish descent, and you won't believe the stories I've heard of how the Irish weren't allowed to wear green or speak Gaelic.

Those Muslims had a human RIGHT to be on that plane, the same as everyone else, provided they paid for their tickets and followed standard procedure.

If we start taking away people's rights for the illusion of security, we're giving up all that makes us different from the real terrorists.

 but, you kind of have spent the last couple of hours trying to tell people WHY it matters

I don't disagree with you, but unfortunately may of the Islamic terrorists who have been involved in bring planes down or attempting to do so have done the same things that shouldn't draw attention under normal circumstances like speaking Arabic, reading the Quran and such.

It's not a problem that those outside the Muslim community can really solve anyway and if Muslims have a problem with it, it really is up to them to find solutions, because those from the outside have zero influence.

No I haven't. If you read my first post in this thread, I made it plain that under the circumstances such suspicion is very normal and has to be expected.

The different sects of Islam don't all get along, in case you haven't noticed. There's only so much you can do.

I'm a Catholic, but there's nothing I can do to muzzle people who blame Katrina and 9/11 on heretics and abortionists and homosexuals.

But you can take responsibility for those within your sphere of influence.

If staunch Catholics were committing atrocities, you can't blame others for being suspicious of staunch Catholics.

so if some of the terrorists in the London attempt where white wouldn't the "circumstances" warrant suspiscion of white men?

Is that the best you have?

I already know I suck at life, but I carry on nevertheless.

It's just that your arguments are so pathetic it really isn't necassery to say much more. I've already said it earlier.

You must have said it in another thread, because you certainly didn't say much in this thread.

Jonty, defending racial profiling since September 2003

Racism is a myth created by money hungry jews that just want to capitalise off of guilt. Then the black people stole it from them.
