Respect

The problem you're having is that you want Christians to agree with something contrary to what the Bible teaches. There is no disrespect in saying "The Bible claims Homosexuality is a Sin."Because that is Fact. That's not quite the same as calling Christians "Morons" for having their beliefs. That is the epitome of disrespect.

As Christians we're called to speak the Truth in Love. It's a fine line to walk and many take it to the extreme both ways.

Obviously, the people who go around with signs saying "God hates ****" are not acting in love, and are doing a disservice to Christ and Christianity.Jesus loves all,and you're not going to convince people of that if you act in hate.

OTOH,some people take the approach of "Well,Jesus loves you no matter what,so it's all good."And while it's true Jesus loves you,God is not going to allow you to enter His Kingdom if you live your life in constant willful sin. That must be pointed out (hopefully) with gentleness and respect.

You're not getting it. What you consider "truth" is not what everyone considers truth, meaning that you don't have the right to call what people do sins or abominations without expecting backlash. We're not calling you a moron, we're calling your belief system ridiculous. That's not oppression or mockery, it's an opinion. Get used to it, because as long as you spout off your opinion under the guise of "truth", we'll respond accordingly.

There is a difference however,in the fact that Jesus is historically proven to exist.

I said that both insults are backed by personal beliefs and they are. Even if you or I or any number of historians think that Jesus actually existed (the proof is there), that doesn't mean that others have to acknowledge that as fact. There are still people who believe that the Earth is flat and they're entitled to that even if they are wrong. The person who said homosexuality is a sin is just as entitled to believe that (and be wrong about it) and others are free to disagree as well. But where both of sides go wrong is in insulting other people.

Yes, gentleness and respect.

Because gently telling someone that they are going to burn in eternal hellfire is the epitome of respect.

I know I quoted you, xeno, but I was just pointing out the fallacy of the person's statement.I don't necessarily disagree with your point.:yay:

Well,we certainly wouldn't be acting in love if we all thought: "Screw 'em all.Let 'em roast."

Hurting someone is still hurting someone, regardless of your intentions, and telling someone that you think they will be eternally damned for just being who they are is hurtful.

No,you're not getting it.The Bible is the authority on what is or isn't a sin.You don't have to agree with it,but the Bible is what decides sinful behavior, not popular opinion.

For you. For other people, the Bible is a nice book of stories written by men that give insight on how to live. For others yet, it's the tool of their oppression.

Why not just live by compassion and remember that all rules are just guidelines anyway?

No,you're not getting it.The Bible is AN authority on what is or isn't a sin.

Not everyone has the same beliefs as you. There are many other holy books that say many things that either the bible doesn't or just flat out disagrees with. Just because it's what you follow doesn't mean that the rest of the world follows the same beliefs.

The three main world religions have the same Old Testament beliefs,so it's not as if there is a ton of discrepancy on the condemnation of homosexuality among religions.

And Scientology is one of the fastest growing religions out there and they believe aliens nuked us into existence.

Interpretation of it, which amounts to popular(as in populous) opinion.

Not only that, but no two of the sects and/or cults however it manifests, reading the "same" book and words, can agree on which words to follow and how to interpret them.
So how can any one of them, (obviously interpreting for themselves) claim they have the authority and decide to impose it on another.
They respect no one.

Or you...I would add!

What this thread was created for was to say everyone should "Respect" everyone...even if you don't agree with them because that's common human decency.

I am sick and effing tired of reading crap about Christian's belief and how moronic, ridiculous, or otherwise unworthy it is because YOU don't agree with it. I can talk a lot of **** about the lifestyles choices some people make, or the religious lives they lead, but that does not give me the right to disrespect their beliefs. Unless it is somehow criminal and worthy of some sort of judgment, then I respect it and I deal with it. Why must those who don't agree with a Christian outlook trash a whole damn belief system? Why must you do that?

You really need to stop!

I have no problem respecting various belief systems if they have no problem respecting others. It's when they state they are the definitive belief system because of whatever reasoning they give and that others are wrong because they don't share it that I don't like.

What I'm seeing from the proponents in this thread is we all need to respect Christianity but Christianity doesn't need to respect anyone else.

Sure, you word it differently, but you're wanting to be held to a higher standard and get to dictate your beliefs while allowing no one to criticism them.

But, it's okay for Human Torch to tell people they will go to hell for being gay?

You need to calm down and realize what you're saying. It's okay for Christians to spout off their nonsense because it's their religious beliefs and that makes it okay? But for us to disagree with it is wrong because we're being mean about it?

Again, he's saying people will go to hell for being gay. He's talking about an eternity of torture and disguising his hate of the sin as being "love." Please. :whatever:

You need to go over Human Torch's and SentinalMind's posts and see just what they're saying. That doesn't deserve respect, not one bit.

Obviously you do if you can't acknowledge that other people have a different belief system! It's their BELIEF SYSTEM....you don't like it...and feel the need to disrespect it because their belief system?????

I am really sick of the ******** in this thread and others. I don't agree with a lot belief systems is not a reason to disrespect their beliefs. You want to because you don't like it, but as far as I can see there are no Westboro church members here spouting that nonsense. It's Christians sharing their beliefs which you don't like.... Why can't you just get over it and move the **** on?????

Opinions on religion are like penises. Everyone has one online, but nobody likes you waving it about like it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Please...you people have been disrespecting Christian beliefs because you don't agree with them and I need to calm down. :whatever:

Oh, sure, let's let the Christians talk about hell and tortue for gays and sinners and atheists and just sit back and "get over it."

Stop talking about respect. Just because people hide behind their right to hold whatever religious beliefs they want, does not mean they're allowed to say whatever they want without backlash.

Awesome...another belief system. I love it!

Seriously folks, I don't want to enter this thread and talk ****, but I will if you keep dissing Christians. I don't care if you don't agree, but at least respect my belief and say you don't agree. Everything else you are saying deserves some sort of rancor.

I don't see how I'm disrespecting his belief. He is stating what he believes as a proven fact. I'm just refuting it as an opinion. He can believe how he wants and you can too, I've never said it was a bad thing. All I'm saying is that no one appreciates being told that they're going to burn in hell for living differently than what other people say is correct.
