Voices From God

Ah, but an Angel isn't the same as a saint. Angels are allowed to kick ass, not us humans. We're supposed to be good and let God do the fighting. :)

meh, in Catholicism we'll "saint" anyone who makes God happy, so Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael got sainted, but I do see what you mean sqeek :) ;)

Well it depends on what they did. If someone goes on a killing rampage and blows himself up with hundreds of other people or a cult of people kills themselfs and they say god told them to do it. Than I'm going to have to question their sanity.

But if they do something good for the world and say that god to them to do it than I could believe that.

Me, too. :)

hence the phrase "Vengeance is mine..."

but it also says "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth"..

Yeah in the Old Testament, but Christ says to turn the other cheek, and if that doesn't work to turn it again. He also say if someone is your enemy to offer then something to eat.

As for people who say "God asked me to kill someone", yes that is an excuse to get away with something. But notice this defence never works. Why? Because God ( or what ever you call him in your faith ) doesn't ask you to sin. God would never tell you to jump on a plane and crash it into a building. At least a loving God would not do that. Satan on the other hand would find that funny.

God does talk to us all, we just have to learn to listen. What he says isn't always obvious, sometimes he just gives us signs. But once again you have to be paying attention.

wow...its like everyone is saying the same freaking thing over and over again..be origional..like this...and yes its ment to sound stupid and dorky so dont be shocked...like..if someone robs a bank and says "god told me to do..it was the only way to feed my baby"...i would question their sanity just for having kids...lol..but if someone baught a bunch of food for a homeless shelter and said "god told me to do it"....i still wouldnt believe them cuz it just wouldnt make sense

Nicely put. Also, the one thing that I don't understand is how or why so many people expect God to make totally cohesive, rational sense. We are a mortal, fallible, selfish, insecure, and ultimately powerless race. God is none of those. He is eternal, infallible, selfless, totally secure, and immensly-powerful Father, who loves us monumentally more than we could ever love ourselves. Just because His actions don't always make sense to our minds, doesn't mean we should dismiss them...or Him.

As for folks who say they hear God's voice, the test is simple. If they contradict the Holy Scriptures or themselves, then there's a pretty good chance that voice isn't from God.

I like how christians think that every time something good happens, it was god's will. But if something bad happens, it was a human error. Apparently people aren't capable of good deeds unless directed by god....piss on that.

WTF are you talking about dude I'm Christian and I don't think that.

It's more like what the Bible says: "We can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us." It's all a matter of faith and trust in God. It also says "everything that does not come from faith is sin", so that's another benchmark by which we should always compare our actions.

Jesus detailed the New Covenant when the Pharisees asked Him to detail the most important of the Ten Commandments. He said, "The first is this: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, body, soul, spirit, and mind. The second of these is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. This sums up all the Law and the prophets." If you love God completely, you'll trust Him, and do everything possible to avoid dishonoring Him. If you love humanity as much as yourself, then you won't deliberately hurt them. Pretty simple if you really think about it.

Ok, so I was watching the always sexy Judge Alex, and the case was a woman who had accidentally received a $7,100 check instead of a $170 and spent it all. Her defense was this.

Defendant: Well, I saw the check and I said, "Oh Lord, I have to take this back," and the Lord said to me "Oh, no you don't. You prayed for a windfall, daughter, here it is," and I said "Lord, I don't want to go to jail," and the Lord said, "You won't go to jail. Just spend the money."

And, so when the Plaintiff called for the money back, and found out that the woman had spent it, she felt bad that the Defendant had really needed the money so she didn't press criminal charges, and only civil charges to get the money back. In the Defendant's mind, this made it clear that God had given her the money and therefore she did not have to pay it back.

Judge Alex did not see it the same way and ordered her to give the money back, and recommended that the Plaintiff press those Criminal Charges.

Strangely enough the Defendant, who had financial issues and STILL tithed $1000 to the church, at the end of the show claimed victory even though she had to pay the money back because "The Lord told me this was going to end up like this."

Seriously, this is why when people "talk to God" they are considered nuts, because there are bat-**** crazy people like this lady.

This is a prime example of why I'm skeptical of people who say "God told me to do X or Y" It's often a justification of irrational or criminal behavior. If someone states that God told them to do something that is in line with basic Christian orthodoxy, I won't deny it or confirm it. It might be genuine. If someone says something "God told me to commit adultery", it's a sad skewing of faith.

It's because the only time you hear, "God told me" or "God made me", is after horrible things. You never hear, "God made me donate to the Salvation Army", because there is good in that and it doesn't need justification. Only people that say 'That' are using it as a sheild.

Thats not true.:whatever:

A buddy of mine in college was doing doing real bad his senior year in a course for his major. He hadn't studied a lick but was relying on "god" so he could pass. I got sick of his lazy attitude regarding his major, especially since about 2 weeks prior he told me he was guaranteed a job if he graduated. So I told him "Dude, god isn't taking the course, you are. So instead of relying on him to pass it, get with one of the students who is actually acing it, or study yourself. You just might come across this simple concept called "remembering what you read" and surprisingly, that will help on your final and you can graduate"

I always wonder why the "voices" or "god" usually tell people to do something violent. Why doesn't he ever tell someone to take a **** on the salad bar at Golden Corral? Now if there were more occurrences like that, I would believe them.

hence the phrase "Vengeance is mine..."

just thought i should correct you on your use of the "phrase eye for an eye..." its about punishment being in proportion to the crime not vengence, ie don't hang a man for stealing bread etc. not lets get revenge.

Moses had his share of skeptics.
That was before he parted the Red Sea. :o

mistranslation, i think it was meant to be the "reed sea" which has a low tide capable of being walked across....

Basically it seems to me that this thread is asking If people are gullible enough to believe the crazy stuff in the bible, how come they are so skeptical nowadays.

Well basically, if they were to believe every claim of supernatural influence that exists today, they'd be more likely to have their faith tested regularly when each individual is proven to have acted on their own accord and not on the influence of some god or demon.

Whereas believeing in miracles performed long ago, they know that they are safe from being disproved, in that no one was there at the time capable of scientifically testing the claimed miracles.

If the church or follwers were to accept modern day miracles on the same tiny amount of evidence that they need to accept the biblical miracles, then they would loose the majority of their more sensible followers who might see through the trickery of charlatans and start to question what else they had been duped into believing.

Words of fatherly advice from 'Frailty':

You can't make things like that up, son. Killing people is wrong, destroying demons is good. Don't worry, God will send you your own list when you're older.

Hahah, I loved that movie, as much as I am not that religious I really liked that movie.

"Fenton I didn't kill her, I destroyed her!"
