Return of the Jedi Return of the Jedi Appreciation Thread

This is still my favorite movie in the original trilogy. Granted, I still base this on my outlook of the original cuts. I totally understand people having only seen the newer Lucas versions, and being turned off by it. ROTJ got hit the hardest by the new edits.

Still my favorite star wars movie slightly ahead of TFA.

"Jedi Rocks" only gets worse with age. I'm almost at the point where I need to fast forward through it, it's so obnoxious.

Was just rewatching this and it reaffirmed itself as being my absolute favourite. The entirety of the third act and its constant cutting back and forth between the ground assault, the space battle and the throne room, is incredibly climactic and with a great emotional weight to it. I'm continually amazed that more SW fans don't consider Return of the Jedi to be the franchise's finest hour.

Wish they'd also put A New Hope back in theaters. I don't think it's had a theatrical rerelease since 1997.

This is my fave film of the OT, for one main reason - the unbridled emotional weight between Luke and Vader. Mark and David Prowse both embodied their characters so well, and James Earl Jones' lines just added even more to the intensity. Ian McDiarmid's first entry as Palpatine was so deliciously evil; you could tell he was enjoying the part like crazy.

As for the rest the film, it was pretty good; I even liked the Ewoks. Carrie Fisher would later complain about her infamous slave-girl outfit, comparing it to "something supermodels would wear, in the ninth circle of hell". But on the whole, I think the bulk of the movie still holds up - its a great sendoff for all the main characters, and to be honest I don't think we needed any more sequels following that point.

Since I didn't see an OT merch thread, I hope that it's OK to post this here. I finally got my hands on the ROTJ Hot Toys Luke Skywalker:

I picked up the RotJ 40th Anniversary Vader during the holidays as a gift to me from me. :hehe: It is such a great piece... I love that Shaw head sculpt! Found a nice IKEA cabinet to display him in with a decent LED puck from Amazon. Now, I just need to set up a USB hub for the LED accessories.

Only negative thing about it is the pleather suit which may/will deteriorate in the future... Humidity shouldn't be a problem hopefully since I'm in Canada and I have A/C for the summers.

Yep, Hot Toys (MMS699). The deluxe edition (MMS700) comes with a staircase diorama and the electrocuted helmet.

Probably will be my sole HT figure from the SW franchise.

Hi, new to Star Wars and need help please. Apologies that it’s nothing to do with your thread but don’t know who or where to ask these questions 😂. My 24 year old grandson who’s autistic loves Star Wars. His birthday is next week. I want to set up a subscription of comics for him but I’m mind blown. I googled what the latest is and came up with The battle of Jakku. Looked at the comics but there’s multiple titles for eg. Comic 1,2 and 3. I have figured that I’ll get him variant copies as it sounds like they are more collectible which he’ll love but there are even various of them for the same comic. Please can anyone help (in simple terms) which Star Wars title, comic or whatever that is recent and easily available through subscription for me to start getting him.
Last time I did a comic subscription was 50 years ago for my daughter - it was so simple back then 🤣
Many, many thanks for any help and answers 🙏
