Yes it was filmed and it was about 5-6 minutes long.
Wait! 5-6 minutes? I don't get it. Why cut such an exquisite part of the film - and one that undoubtedly cost millions? I'm sorry, but a film of this magnitude DESERVED that kind of visual eye candy. More than that, people expected it. Hell... I did. :csad:

I remember reading about how they temporarily used some of the airy music from the space scenes in Solaris (the remake) for inspiration, or something along those lines. Now, Solaris had its issues - it was a pretty boring film, in fact - but day-um! Those space scenes MADE the film for me.

There was an old episode of Smallville (hang in there folks; I'll make it quick), where Jor-El describes Krypton and says, "Where I'm from we have colors that you've never seen. Our moons are so close they fill up half the sky. We have sunsets that last for hours."

Godammit! I wanted to SEE stuff like that in SR. And now to find out they actually shot it, kinda sorta, but chose NOT to use it? *siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh* That really blows.

Truly beautiful designs, aside from the green glow on the ship interior which is too kryptonite-like (as the designer himself says).

In the final version that was cut, the color scheme was as far from green as it gets. These are "just" design studies (beautiful ones, but over a year and a half worth of changes away from the final look).
Most of the "table consoles" you see were also removed - the crystal consoles grew straight from the floor just like in the FOS.

Probably, if they would rerelease it in IMAX 3D. Not much more, but still...

This scene woould off been great in the movie, something original. But no Singer cut it! :cmad:

Bryan Singer explains:It’s a pretty expensive elaborate sequence, but it ultimately didn’t play in the scope of the movie. It wasn’t necessary and it didn’t feel right in the movie.

It was one of the scenes in the movie i was most looking forward to see. People had been talking it up for months so to hear that it had been cut was, and still is, pretty hard to swallow.Especially after seeing the designs.:csad:

Singer said something about rereleasing it in IMAX 3D but he's also hesitant to recutting his movies so we're not even sure if we'll ever get to see an extended cut of SR.:cmad:

Y'know, there's two schools of thought on this issue. The first is to give the director ultimate control over his/her work because THEY are the artist painting the canvas. The second school of thought is, those funding the project should have a say in what's being painted. Even Michelangelo was PAID to paint the Sistine Chapel. Singer didn't spend 200 million dollars of his own money to make SR. Warners *should* have had some say in what stayed and what was cut. They may not know squat about the difference between oil and acrylic, but they DO know what audiences like, and ultimately, that's what's important. Remember, it's not show art; it's show business. I bet Warners is furious over this......

Well if you start doing things like that directors like Singer, M Night Shyamalan, Nolan etc won't do movies with Warner. When a studio has too much control with creative decisions you end up with butchered end products like Fantastic Four and Daredevil - Fox (example).

Its when the director himself starts butchering his own movie that you have to start asking questions. Even 'SR lovers' like myself.

to be honest i think that WB was the one who told him to cut it out so that the movie would be shorter.

i always had a feeling that this was singers dream job. he is not one of the best directors. but he is also not the worst. he was there when they wrotte the script. he was there when they decided about the scenes. they build one of the most complicated set(spaceship), they scored the music and finished the CGI. and at the end of all this he says that it didnt belong in the movie? maybe singer is not one of the smartest people. but you would have to be one of the biuggest idiots to cut a scene after so much work, money and time.

so since we knwo that WB are dumb enough to make a movie like catwoman after batman & robin ......i think it was they who said to cut it out.

the scene is about superman returning from krypton to earth. the title of the movie is superman returns.it all makes no sense :o

Couldn't have said it better.

I must say, I have always liked the movie version of Krypton using crystals as their tech. It's the only take on Krypton I like.

The sequence will be used, either in the sequel or a later release of the movie on DVD.

:wow: Wow, the scene looks awesome. I'm hoping that they find a way to put it in the sequel.

you know the more stuff i see that was kept out and comparing that to the stuff that was kept in makes me want to cry :(

OMG I hope one day we get to see this sequence in the extended version of SUPERMAN RETURNS on dvd :super: [I think if all the people that didn't enjoy Superman returns, May have enjoyed it a little more if "The Return To Krypton" Sequence was seen.]

there are so many rabid fans that as soon as the extended footage is on DVD you will find a it available to download recut into the movie somewhere on this series of tubes we call the internet

Yeah, for a five to six minute scene (I think referring to it as a sequence may be a bit off), this should not have been cut at all! I'm really disappointed in Singer that he'd take something like this out. But then again, although five to six minutes in "move time" is a lot of time. Try and find a five to six minute sequence you'd cut in the movie and you'll invariably find that you're cutting two scenes. That's because most scenes are 2-3 minutes long, not five to six. In fact, this is true for most movies in general -- 2 to 3 minutes for a scene. Even the screenwriter -- with their 1 page to 1 minute ration -- is cautioned not to write a scene longer then 2 to 3 pages. The only thing that breaks this rule on screen is action sequences, which naturally tend to run longer.

Either way, this is definitley five to six minutes I could've sit through, especially since it would've heightened the surrealism of Lex's own island, allowed Lex to be the main manipulator of him leaving, and also justified the price tag a little more to naysayers.

Either way, Singer really needs to be pressured to release this stuff. WB needs to get on him; fans need to get on him. We should see this.

And yes, I do think this is a peek at what we're getting in the sequel as to more "sci-fi"
