CoR has got its problems and shortcomings, granted, but I think it's the one film in which we get to know the world of Riddick--and it is a pretty fascinating one in which the director and writers 'show' rather than 'tell'. We're a fly on a wall in what appears to be a richly layered and tangled world (Necromongers, 'mercs', Furyans, Elementals) having to make sense of it and figure it out. All of it heavily stylized and very cool looking visually. (Crematoria was really nicely done, for example.) Anyway I thought it had some impressive worldbuilding going on. And I'm usually a sucker for that.

I don't particularly disagree with any of that, I just thought it character of Riddick in the movie was a bit too soft, which they acknowledged in the 3rd movie. Plus the Necro's were not particularly interesting as villains. I preferred Vaako over LM yet the latter was supposed to be the main villain.

The very beginning on the ice world and crematoria were well done, but the other action scenes in the movie weren't too good or thrilling. I thought they made Riddick a bit too 'super' as well.

I'm excited to see Vaako again. I'd like to see how they conclude this Furian/Necromonger storyline.

Agree the the Lord Marshal was a bit of a weak link. Maybe not the best casting. Colm Feore didn't seem very menacing. He looks more like he belongs in a Wall Street board room.

Vin Diesel is taking Riddick back to the beginning.

The action star revealed in a Facebook livestream Tuesday that the fourth film in the Chronicles of Riddick franchise will be an origin story about the sci-fi antihero, and it could start shooting in early 2017.

Diesel was joined in the video by writer-director David Twohy, with whom he collaborated on Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick, and Riddick.
Diesel previously teased plans for a new Riddick movie (and a companion TV series) on Instagram last month, revealing that the working title for No. 4 is Furia. (For the record, Riddick’s home planet is Furya; it’s unclear whether the title’s spelling has some other meaning or was just a typo.)
2017 is still a ways off, though Diesel does have a busy schedule at the moment: Pending projects include Fast & Furious 8, The Pacifier 2, and another XXX movie.
Or if you take Twohy’s word for it, “It takes him that long to get in character.”

So wait the new movie is a prequel? I never thought they would go that route, and kinda hope they don't. Pitch Black and COR went into his origins plenty.

Chronicles of Riddick is my favorite of the series. I'm a sucker for complete bad asses like he was and the scope of the movie fit better for me than the other two, which were both concentrated on one planet.

That sequence on Crematoria is one the best action scenes in a sci-fi film.

It felt to me like 'back to the beginning' meant back to Furya where he came from.

I thought Riddick was more bad ass in the first and 3rd movies. He went a bit soft in COR, I still liked it and the way it expanded the universe. But Riddick as a character was better in 1 and 3 for me.

It is awesome.

It says they are exploring his origins, which I don't get, as they were explored heavily in the 2nd movie, I am not someone who dislikes prequels but this one would seem pointless. I would prefer them to advance the story.

It's wierd though, Vin's very obviously aged since Pitch Black.

Exactly, I think it would be weird to show Riddicks younger years when we already know the most important aspects of them. Let's move the story forward and deal with the Underverse and Furya.

The one we've all been waiting for.

Ugh. Does anyone actually want a prequel besides Vin and Twohy? I certainly dont. Stop dicking around, and show us the Underverse. They've been teasing the Underverse for 11 ****ing years. Its time to **** or get off the pot.

Agreed, I like this series a lot, I just don't see the need for a prequel.

Agreed. Vin just want's to prolong this franchise and I'm not sure the fans will go along with this. I mean we finally get to the point that was talked about in the first movie and now he's going all the way back to the very beginning.

Thanks for coming into a sequel for a franchise you have no interest in watching to tell us that. :D

Just watched "Riddick" for the first time, solid movie. I honestly would have been okay with just a survival film. No other actors, just Riddick & his alien dog trying to survive the terrain of the tattooine-esque planet. It's been a long time since I've watched Pitch Black & Chronicles. Probably time I revisited them.

If they do a prequel, I think animated would be preferred with Diesel as the voice.

I haven't heard anything else about new Riddick films though. Did it get shelved?

Was just thinking of these movies the other day, hope the next 2 haven’t been cancelled :csad:

He's probably focused on the F&F franchise. No doubt if Hobbs and Shaw takes off, those characters will replace Dom and co, then he'll go back to Riddick (I suspect).

I honestly never even knew they'd made a sequel to Chronicles of Riddick.

Always remember I loved the escape scene from the prison.

I actually liked a lot of Chronicles, but the director's cut was a better version of the movie.

The 3rd movie was really good, really under rated and was low budget so they had a bit more freedom.

Nah that won't happen. Hobbs and Shaw will be their own thing away from the main F&F franchise.

I don't think Diesel will go back to Riddick...unless he gets major China backing like with XxX

If they do decide to make another one I really hope it's better than Riddick. I found that movie pretty disappointing considering how little he was actually in it at times. As much as I love Pitch Black the whole survive on an alien infested planet plot can only really work once. Hell I used to not even be the biggest fan of Chronicles because of how much different it was from Pitch Black, but that movie has actually grown on me over the years. I really do like the expanded scope of it, and the fact they really went all in on making it a big budget summer blockbuster.

I hated Chronicles of Riddick until I saw the director's cut. Now I really like the film.
