🇺🇸 Ridin’ with Biden: It's Joever

US News
But is Biden popular? Polls of both Dens and Republicans want Biden to step down and another Democrat to run in his place.
He's not particularly popular and I think the reasons he isn't are cosmetic rather than substantive. That being said, a wide swath of people would be more than happy to rally behind him rather than have some pro-life, homophobic nut job in the WH.

I would not call him extremely popular. But considering the alternative, most will rally behind him. The midterms should have been a bloodbath, but it wasn't.
I agree about the midterms, I just balk at the idea of calling Biden popular, lol.

Polls don’t mean squat— see 2016 and how wildly the MSM was off with last year’s so called red wave midterm effect.

But Biden needs to sell his accomplishments heavily because his policies like the infrastructure and Inflation Reduction Act are starting to positively affect voters across the country.

IIRC, the polls weren't terribly wrong. What happened, IMO, was that some states that probably should have gone Dem (WI, PA, MI), went for Trump by VERY thin margins. Clinton made a strategic mistake and Biden was the one who warned the Democratic Party that they alienated working people at their own peril. It's also why HE won the election in 2020 by very slim margins. You can look at the electoral count and both elections look like blowouts, but, in truth, they were decided by very close margins in particular states.

That election (2016) was the Dems for the taking. Clinton, as smart as she is, just whiffed. She took for granted, and ignored, certain states that would have put her over the top. That's on her and her campaign.

I'm not a Biden fan but he's moving things to the Center and that was best case scenario when I voted for him.

His next job should be to the put the nail in the coffin of the extreme right wing but alas...

If his opponent is Ron DeSantis next year... he is going to own that Florida meathead so hard. RDS' policies and lawbreaking power grabs are not something you can water down for swing state consumption.

You can't really play down the fact you basically gave Florida RW goons carte blanche to BAN books, block African American history being taught in AP courses, force LGBT+ kids out of the closet and suppressing Black and brown voters with a so-called "election integrity" task force.

I certainly hope you're right because everything you said makes sense, but you can't trust sensibility these days.

I don't put much stock in the polls these days myself, especially a year out from a Presidential Election when there are two actual opponents on the ballot as opposed to hypotheticals.

The Beltway MSM is very much stuck in the 20th century in terms of their political analysis , view points, and even in who they're speaking to in terms of the electorate, and as of late, they haven't been exactly on the mark in terms of capturing the public mood.

Alot can happen in a year of course, but I put little faith in the MSM narrative at this point.

People keep underestimating President Biden, even after the 2022 midterms. And he was very clever and baited Rs into promising not to cut Social Security and Medicare in his State of the Union address.

He's not going to rest on his laurels going into next year.

For American politics, I think he's firmly to left of center. Don't confuse what has been passed with what he's pushed. He pushed for a 3.5T infrastructure bill but it got dramatically trimmed back. I see him as firmly in the FDR/LBJ camp and far from the Reagan/Bush camp...not to mention Trump.

I tend to agree. IMO, he's done a better job than Obama did and I think he's about to go down as one of the better presidents we've had. Given the circumstances, he's gotten a fair amount done. I know people are freaked out by his age, but, frankly, I'm more concerned in his ability to push something (albeit reduced) bills through the legislature.

I'm kinda surprised he's not pushing for a federal minimum wage increase for now. He won't get the $15/hr increase with the current House and Senate makeup, but perhaps $10-11/hr?

Oh who am I kidding. Margie Three Toes and McCarthy won't pass anything that helps Biden and Democrats.

I was just revisiting my last post WRT the job Biden has done compared to Obama. Let me be clear, while inadequate, the ACA was a huge step forward. Many of my friends found HIV medications far, far more affordable and signed up in droves.

But riddle me this......who was it that was charged with getting the ACA through the legislature? IIRC correctly, Joe Biden played an integral role. Also, who was out in front of the administration, apparently to their dismay, on "allowing" (SMH) gays to serve openly in the military? It was our current president.

Look, I'm so far to his left that he'd have to turn around to see me, but I'll give credit where credit is due.

NY Times - Pentagon Downed Object Over Alaska, Official Says
The incident comes less than a week after a U.S. fighter jet shot down a Chinese spy balloon over the Atlantic.

The Pentagon downed an unidentified object over Alaska on Friday at the order of President Biden, according to U.S. officials.

John Kirby, the White House spokesman, confirmed the shoot down at a news conference on Friday.

A U.S. official said it was not confirmed if the object was a balloon, but it was traveling at an altitude that made it a potential threat to civilian aircraft.

Mr. Biden ordered the unidentified object downed “out of an abundance of caution,” Mr. Kirby said.

Justin Trudeau:
“I ordered the take down of an unidentified object that violated Canadian airspace. @NORADCommand shot down the object over the Yukon. Canadian and U.S. aircraft were scrambled, and a U.S. F-22 successfully fired at the object.” “I spoke with President Biden this afternoon. Canadian Forces will now recover and analyze the wreckage of the object. Thank you to NORAD for keeping the watch over North America.”

CNN - US intelligence community releases long-awaited UFO report (June 2021)
The US intelligence community on Friday released its long-awaited report on what it knows about a series of mysterious flying objects that have been seen moving through restricted military airspace over the last several decades.

In short, the answer, according to Friday's report, is very little, but the intelligence community's release of the unclassified document marks one of the first times the US government has publicly acknowledged that these strange aerial sightings by Navy pilots and others are worthy of legitimate scrutiny.

Oooh…. Someone thought I had a good idea. I’ll alert the media. I so want this to turn into talk about space aliens.
