Oh man, the news of Jana Novotna and Della Reese passing away totally slipped under my radar. And if it hasn't been noted, Malcolm Young's older brother George Young of the Easybeats and also AC/DC's Producer for a time, passed away shortly before Malcolm's passing.
And while it was many months ago, I'm still saddened over the losses of veteran musicians John Wetton and Allan Holdsworth. I was lucky to see Wetton singing the Genesis classic 'Firth of Fifth' at Steve Hackett's Genesis Revisited gig at London's Royal Albert Hall 4 years ago. Would have been nice seeing him during Asia's recent reunion period too but alas, it shall never happen. Wetton and Holdsworth would also work together in the band U.K. - the first album which also featured legendary Yes/King Crimson drummer Bill Bruford and keyboard/electric violin extraordinaire Eddie Jobson.
Never had the opportunity to see Allan Holdsworth though. He was quite prolific in Jazz Fusion circles and the like. Quite an influential guitarist Holdsworth was...
And lastly, better late than never - 12 months ago around the time Status Quo's Rick Parfitt and George Michael passed away, veteran Jazz and Fusion drummer Alphonse Mouzon passed away on the 25th of December at the age of 68. Guess he would be best known having played for the band Weather Report for a time.
And I'm still in shock over the passing of a guitarist from Polish Progressive Rock Band 'Riverside' Piotr Grudzinksi, who passed away at the young age of 40 from cardiac arrest. This happened during February of last year. Riverside will never be the same as he was quite a phenomenal guitar player and his solos were beautiful.
So yes, those two deaths weren't previously listed last year so that's why I brought them up....
