The Rise of Skywalker Rise of Skywalker Leaks and Spoilers thread

If Palpatine is Rey's grandfather then how did he even find the time to have a child, let alone Rey's father who was Palpatine's own son?

Better yet why would Palpatine have his own son killed? That to me makes no sense especially when he should be all about family...I would think he would want an heir and what I don't get is why he couldn't just raise his own son and train him to be a Sith?

Another thing...if the Emperor knew he had a granddaughter then why wouldn't he just have Rey brought to him when she was a kid and then raise her as well as train her to be a Sith especially if he knew his granddaughter to be powerful? That makes no sense to me also

I noticed also it seems after Rey force heals Kylo his facial scar also heals I believe.

This is actually explained in the movie. The dead guy with the dagger is told by Palpatine to fetch his grandkid, but he returns with only her parents.
The flashback Rey keeps having is her watching that dude fly off with her parents, with them just moments before selling/giving her off to that character from TFA.

Yeah I get all that but if he knew his granddaughter was on Jakku all that time as a scavenger...he could have had her grabbed then and brought to him

Well, since she wasn't with her parents they had no way of finding her on the planet.? So they returned the parents in order to make them tell him where Rey was. They were killed when it was apparent they would never tell.
I'm not saying it's perfect writing but that's how I see it based on what we are told.

I suppose they could just round up any kids in the correct age, however long it might take, but yeah.

Han appearing to Ben as a ghost made me cry honestly

No matter anyones opinion of the film, a real highlight for me was C-3PO. Anthony Daniels has so much more to work with than the previous two. And it was great to see Threepio with something to actually do in the film for the first time since ROTJ.

Oh, wow. The comparisons to GOT go deeper, in that the Q&A's make everything worse.

Why in the world would this be what is on Finn's mind when he thinks he's about to die? Why is his potential thought "Wow, I should tell Rey I may be force sensitive, which will be pointless if we're both dead"?

Yeah its senseless. But throughout the film it was clear he was showing force-sensitivity, although in some of the clunkiest ways possible.

Genetic manipulation....he used his DNA and someone else's DNA to create her. He's not her grandfather in the usual sense, but technically he is.

No one sees any value in the "adopted legacy" angle?

Not the way it was handled, no.

If Rey had been revealed in TLJ to be a student of Luke's that he had adopted and raised as a daughter, who was then spared by Kylo and had her memories altered, that would have made the "adopted legacy" feel genuine and sincere. But as it stands, there's nothing that indicates Rey is "adopted" by the Skywalkers. It's like saying Luke was "adopted" by Obi-Wan and Yoda. Except at least Obi-Wan and Yoda were willing to mentor Luke before they became Force ghosts.

Dune is coming out next year. We will get to see Rey's basic character arc done right.

Not them adopting her...she, searching for belonging, chooses to honor and adopt their legacy. She's does so for three films as she discovers the Jedi, the rebel cause, etc. Luke tries to mentor her, as does Leia.

If she had been adopted by Luke and trained/raised as a Jedi she would be a Slywalker still in every way that counts except biologically but that would have made sense but it would still somewhat be incest especially if Luke adopted Rey and Ben being Han and Leia's sin they would be adopted cousins but still somewhat kind of incest

If it wasn't for Last Jedi, I think Rey would've likely be the biological daughter of Han/ Leia or Luke.

Except he says that she is the daughter of his son. So he did have a son, who married or had a female partner, and they had Rey. But they wanted to protect her and keep her away from Palpatine. Apparently his son and wife/girlfriend were good people and not evil like him.

Now that's another big issue that I've had a hard time buying. Considering how manipulative and controlling Palpatine is, I seriously doubt that he would have allowed any offspring of his to be raised in a way that would permit them in developing any sense of morality/fond feelings for anyone.

I think it would have made more sense if Rey was not a blood relative of Palpatine but rather some sort of clone or a genetically modified child with unknown parents.

We still need to know who Palpatine's son was, how it was that he was able to get far enough away from his father so as to live anonymously, how it was that Palpatine with all his powers didn't just get Rey's location from the minds of his son and his son's wife, and why Rey's supposedly loving parents would leave their daughter with a heartless scumbag like Unkar Plutt.

The Rey lineage is so muddled in this, I don't know why she wasn't "created" like Anakin was. This much more cleanly explains how she exists, her power, and also how she is still a nobody. Her parents could still be filthy junk traders and JJ could appease those who were underwhelmed by that in one fell swoop.
