Robert Downey Jr will play Iron Man in the The Avengers movie right?

Ok so he did sign on for Avengers than? I guess we don't know about Iron Man 3 yet so why would he sign on for some thing that hasn't been given the go yet. Which is good becuase I just couldn't see any one playing Tony Stark. RDJ is just perfect for him.

Not everything has to be a trilogy you know. If, by the time their contracts run up, if they still want to do more movies than they will, just like any other franchise. I never understand this paranoia if they don't sign up to do 70 billion movies straight away.

Hey I'm all for Iron Man 3, but we need to wait and see how well Iron Man 2 does. If Iron Man 2 and Avengers both do great with the money and reviews than Iron Man 3 will prob be given a go too. But right now we don't know, so yah I'm going to assume the other movie RDJ signed on for is Avengers. Which would be good. I don't want any one else playing the guy besides him.

And, the cool part? Even if say RDJ doesn't end up doing Avengers, no big deal. Marvel has a large pool of characters all they have to do is drop the Iron Man character and replace him with Dr. Strange or something.

my biggest worries lie in terms of the planning and shooting of all these movies to coincide and work together... the other being the uber ****ty script writer Zak Pencilneck... who just sucks monkey balls

IM 3 will be cheaper to do than Avengers even though his contract will easily inflate to 25-35 million by then (at the rate this franchise is making money)... you can still budget it within 200-210 million. But yeah you'll need to give him a blank paycheck since it would be the fourth installment. Even if Mandarin is a villain in Avengers they shouldn't kill him off but rather save him for IM3 just in case. The movie would hopefully get done for a 2013 release. I think you can milk Robert out for a fourth. Penn has already talked with Downey for Avengers anyway so that is the least of our concerns although nothing is guaranteed ofcourse.

If Iron Man and TIH are anything to go by, there's not really much to worry about. The solo movies will probably continue to stand on their own and just have a couple of little cameos and easter eggs thrown in, so Avengers will probably be the only film that has to really worry about continuity any.

Directed towards echostation:In the defense of Zak Penn,that man wrote Marvel movies here that lots of people liked,with the examples being X-Men and X-Men:United to my understanding,and of course Ang Lee's Hulk(if I remember correctly). If you enjoyed those,then you IMO are being too harsh on Zak Penn.

Good, so either RDJ or no movie at all. Its going to kick ass. It will be fun seeing those together defeating deadly foes.

Agreed, I wouldn't bother seeing it. You just get so used to seeing the actors as the characters. Plus agian must say RDJ just does Tony Stark perfectly. I just couldn't see any one else doing the guy.

I don't think that is the case. Favreau has said that he has planned two sequel to Iron Man. So I'm guessing that we'll get IM3 after the Avengers.
