I agree Captain America and Daredevil don't look scary at all. Until you see them in action and coming nowhere!Criminals by nature, are a cowardly and superstitious lot. They see anything like that coming for them In the dark and they'll be frightened. We know it's a man in a suit and we're seeing it from a focused lense from behind a screen but a guy wearing a bright green jumpsuit can be scary if he's hiding from you and taking your friends out one by one. The suit (which I love) is also objectively intimidating, for evil doers ya know.
I'm very pleased that David Mazzucchelli chose a more modernized suit -for its time- as Year One suit instead of going back to the very first suit.As far as 1939 ears on the cowl goes, here's a David Mazzucchelli sketch from early on in the process of making Year One.

That top sketch is probably my favorite image of Batman ever. It just so perfectly demonstrates everything that the Batman is supposed to be like visually, invoking a more bat-like silhouette (he is, after all, the BATman) It would work perfectly in a noir-driven story. As for how to properly do them on-screen? Put these ears on the new cowl (positioned exactly the same and the exact same length):

Nope. BvS - bland, fat, with short ears and ugly bat emblem. TDK - fragile frame, overdesigned. The batsuits from TDK & BvS were better.

I agree about the very short ears, unpleasant logo, and too thick suit.Nope. BvS - bland, fat, with short ears and ugly bat emblem. TDK - fragile frame, overdesigned.

Devil is in details. Batman Begins is a combination of various solutions. Ninja gear, military armor, Fox gadgetry, fabric cape, molded cowl. It's interesting up close and has great silhouette from afar. Sure it has some problems like rigidness and the neck, but overall it's interesting and for the most part tastefully done. How can one criticise the BvS suit for being bland when the Begins suit is literally boring matte black rubber from head to toe that had been done 4 times previously?? It also creased/folded anytime Bale moved more than an inch paired with a pair of dish washing gloves sprayed black.
In case of begins all those lines are really subdued, they aren't that visible. In case of TDK suit it's hard to even call it armor, because it looks like a sieve. It's ugly with it's balloon head and chicken neck.I agree that TDK suit was kinda overdesigned, but I accept the reasoning behind it because they separated the plates for agility. But the Begins suit was just as busy, have you seen the torso? It's got lines everywhere mapping out full abs & ribcage.
Batman v Superman suit is just a bland fat muscle suit. This simplicity is great for a comic book page, but for live action it's just too uninspired. Also putting BB suit along with absolutely the worst batsuits from JL is wow... You lost me here. This is the correct order of the more recent movie suits from worst to best, anything else is wrong:
Justice League (Standard) = Batman Begins > Justice League (Tactical) > The Dark Knight > Batman vs Superman

And how can you praise TDK and at the same time hate B21 suit, when B21 looks like TDK done right (so far)?
Meaningful step away? What's so meaningful about it?The irony of calling the BvS suit uninspiring when it was literally the first meaningful step away from all black rubber after near 30 years.
So you wanted to talk about Begins and BvS suits, even though they were mentioned only in context of some people disliking the reveal of B21?Where have I said I hate the B21 suit?![]()
Same ... if I’m ranking the looks of the suits, not real life function. I’m goingThe only thing I disliked about the BvS suit was the bat symbol and it was a bit too bulky but the rest was perfect! I still prefer Burton's suits though because I love the black look there and admittedly for nostalgia

Begins wasn't all rubber either. It had fabric cape. BvS returned to leather. Begins had metallic arm guard. BvS arm guard didn't even look like metal. And even it's "cloth" parts looked rubbery, only with texture. But the worst part - there's nothing interesting in it's concept. It's designed only to make the character look like a beef cake. Driven by desire of literal translation from comic book pages. It wasn't all black & it wasn't all rubber, that alone is a meaningful step. Also the fact that it incorporated some gray & fabric into the body getting it closer to the comic/animation/video game counterparts.
