Robert Pattinson IS The Batman

2020 Bruce would have freakin long hair cause he’s been in dang covid lockdown!

that's how 2020 bruce wayne would look like.

The movie takes place circa 2019, no?

Yeah, that's kind of what I meant: If recent set pics are to be believed, a 2019/2020 Bruce is precisely what we're getting rather than a 90s version as previously rumored.

It takes place in 2019, but the appearance of Gotham and its inhabitants appears to be an amalgam of different eras like Burton's or BTAS's Dark Deco aesthetics. Everyone in this film appears to be wearing distinctly 1980s style fashions from Bruce to Selina to Falcone to Cobblepot. The cut of the suits is clearly period. Similarly, the cars seem to be primarily late 1990s and early 2000s models. For instance, the police still drive old Crown Victorias rather than the current Dodge Charger models employed by most North American police services. Bruce in keeping with his dressing like early 1980s Tom Cruise has a haircut from that era.

I can imagine this would be his look when he starts to put on the billionaire playboy persona.

Why are you assuming he is not yet putting on the billionaire playboy persona? In accordance with the period aesthetic of the costuming, he is dressing like early 80s Tom Cruise and his hair is styled to match. Also, the most recent set photos from the funeral exterior shoot seems to suggest that Bruce is putting on the playboy persona. There are shots of Pattinson trying to tip a cop to valet park his car for him. (Another period piece of production design is that they are using older styles of US paper money).

But they’ve also got what appears to be Bruce confronting Cobblepot and Falcone. Granted, none of us can be sure of anything at this point, but if I had to guess, I’d say Bruce at this point doesn’t have as much concern for averting attention about his night-time activities.

True. The confrontation could also be Bruce's anger getting the best of him and a moment where his mask slips. Maybe Falcone and Cobblebot do or say something that gets his goat? Bruce could be putting on the persona, but due to his youth and inexperience, he is not perfect at keeping it up.

I'm sure we'll get something close to resembling that definitive Bruce Wayne look in the sequels at least by the time they get to the third film. This version of Bruce Wayne still has some growing to do it seems when it comes to his personality and developing into the charismatic, outgoing, *****ebag playboy we all know and love.

What do you mean by "definitive"? Many would consider the 1970s illustrations of Batman by guys like Neal Adams and Marshall Rogers as pretty definitive, and guess what their Bruce Wayne looked like:

That haircut looks pretty similar to what we are getting here and this Bruce could hardly be more classically well-dressed in old money fashion than this one is (given the early 80s aesthetic of the costuming)...

Hate to break it to you, but your idea of "definitive" is far from universal or actually, you know, definitive.

Yeah maybe definitive was the wrong word, but I definitely think his look will change in each film as he becomes more comfortable with his public persona, although I do think Pattinson looks great with the longer/messier hairstyle that we have seen so far for this movie.

What do you guys think about this short, slick back look for Bruce?

It's okay, but it is pretty much the same as Bale's slicked back style as Bruce. Personally, I wouldn't mind something a little shorter as Bruce ages and becomes a bit more mature, but I want them to continue to keep a bit of a messier approach to the style, with some hair falling carefree over Bruce's forehead. Something more windswept and tussled like one of these:

If Bruce is pretending to be a carefree playboy, it doesn't really make sense for him to look clean and composed like he spends all day in business meetings. He should look more like someone who spends his days heli-skiing, sailing catamarans, and playing golf, etc.

I think it's shorter than Bale's hairdo but I see your point. I dig the last one in your post.

It's more interesting and different than the usual Bruce Wayne look for sure.

Except as far as the movies are concerned, we haven't really had a "usual" look for Bruce. The Burton/Schumaker era had Bruce with glasses, and slicked back hair. Then Clooney came along, and ditched the glasses and sported a short cropped haircut.

Bale and Affleck both combed their back, but they both had different cuts. And although Bale does sport a bit of a mop top in Begins...

...he comes closer to the early Tom Cruise look DK often talks about, mostly because unlike Pattinson, he's classically handsome, and the hair is still fairly short. It makes him look young, but not too boyish. Pattinson's hair, on the other hand, is too long and too neat, making him look like a 90's child sitcom star. Not exactly the hair for a brooding billionaire.

Thanks for the mini-refresher course. The Crown Victorias I definitely recall, but as men's fashion isn't my forte and the Internet being... well, the Internet, I take any comments found here on that particular subject with a grain of salt. To your point, though, even if we're to assume that said gamut of eras and styles stretches no further than the '80s, I can still see there being a little wiggle room as to how that's best implemented across each respective character design. That additional aspects of the film might draw from different time periods is particularly notable, as it could conceivably allow for a light blending of styles, the kind of thing you wouldn't necessarily see in the real world. With that in mind, Bruce's haircut looks a bit more modern to me than the younger Cruise's does. Modern might be the wrong word for it, but the much longer bangs especially give him a slightly goth look that isn't shared by the aforementioned Cruise. The natural-looking aspect (of both cuts) imparts a sort of timeless quality anyway.
