Robert Pattinson IS The Batman

Come to think of it, his hairstyle is kind of evocative of season 1 era Joey in F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

Thanks for the mini-refresher course. The Crown Victorias I definitely recall, but as men's fashion isn't my forte and the Internet being... well, the Internet, I take any comments found here on that particular subject with a grain of salt. To your point, though, even if we're to assume that said gamut of eras and styles stretches no further than the '80s, I can still see there being a little wiggle room as to how that's best implemented across each respective character design. That additional aspects of the film might draw from different time periods is particularly notable, as it could conceivably allow for a light blending of styles, the kind of thing you wouldn't necessarily see in the real world. With that in mind, Bruce's haircut looks a bit more modern to me than the younger Cruise's does. Modern might be the wrong word for it, but the much longer bangs especially give him a slightly goth look that isn't shared by the aforementioned Cruise. The natural-looking aspect (of both cuts) imparts a sort of timeless quality anyway.

Falcone wears a double-breasted suit with a very low buttoning point and a very low gorge (the seam where the lapel meets the collar, can also be seen on his overcoat). It is a very distinct and early 1980s look, see reputable sources like: Bond Suits – How to dress like Bond and beyond, or better yet a 1982 issue of GQ:

This is a style that is not seen anywhere in history other than the 1980s.

Agreed, that Bruce's hair is a bit more "modern" than a true early 80s style. It is parted a little bit differently and does not quite have the same feathering and hairsprayed look that hair did in the early 80s. As is often done for period pieces, it is an 80s style slightly updated for modern sensibilities so as not to look too campy (see Wolf of Wall Street for a similar example). Nevertheless, the overall style of a long flow with long bangs is very 80s. See others besides Tom Cruise:

I’ll go ahead and say it doesn’t matter. Lol he’s not bald nor is he rocking a Mohawk. It’s hair.

His hair doesn't look like any of those hairstyles, though. And I'm not sure it's particularly modern, either. For a man, in 2020, let alone a billionaire, it strikes me as an odd choice. It's kind of geeky.

I wish your trolling was as artful as your name would suggest.

That's no troll. Lol they're professionals. The trailer alone shows that his hair will be manipulated throughout depending on his surroundings/mood/whatever. It's down, moody, and swept behind his ear at a funeral. It's messy and unkempt when he has the mask off, etc.

I don't mean that the hair itself doesn't matter. It definitely does. It helps tell a story. It's just a funny thing to speculate about, I think.

Honestly, his retro hairstyle makes me wish even more that this movie actually did take place in the 90's so that they could go even crazier with it. A 90's era, neo noir, detective style Batman movie directed by Matt Reeves sounds like it could have been so much fun IMO, especially if he would have been able to keep the same aesthetic.

Yeah I’m not sure why this needed to be set in present day. I’m sure it’ll make sense in a year and a half from now but right now so much of it is retro that I kinda wish it was a mid to late 90’s story. It also would have made it harder for Bruce to track the Riddler.

To be honest, I could see a true period setting being somewhat confusing and disorientating for the key Batman teenage demographic that never lived in the 1990s and grew up with high speed internet, smartphones, and ask their parents things like why we call it "hanging up the phone".

Seeing Bruce Wayne rely more on his wit and intellect would have been really cool to see IMO along with him trying to adapt by using that funky 90's technology when chasing down the bad guys. Honestly, that approach just sounds more interesting to me, but I get why they didn't go in that direction.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't have liked to see it though.

How is it trolling? Some of you guys have had your own particular thoughts on how Bruce's hair should be. I know one of you was against Bruce having a military inspired haircut, so how is this any different?

I suppose it would be similar to BTAS 1930's, Art Deco inspired look, where you're never quite sure of the time period, since Batman uses modern technology.

What do you guys think about this short, slick back look for Bruce?

This would be my ideal look for Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. I think this hairstyle makes the best use of his strong facial features. He just looks cold and icy, especially with a more "Batman" expression as in the pic below. The sharper cut would suit a more experienced Batman, who is on top of his game. His current hairstyle softens him up IMO, which admittedly might befit a younger Bats who's still a bit sloppy and prone to mistakes.

Yes, Oz's coat would be one of the more obvious pieces of clothing that ties the film to the '80s, my layman eyes can discern that much. lol But there's still so much more of the film that virtually everyone but those involved w/ the production has yet to see. So, for the time being at least, it's impossible to determine the level of consistency to which that style is put into effect for each character (apart from the ones we've been shown thus far, that is.) Do you understand?

Thanks for the resources. I think I'll just wait for the inevitable interview with the costume designer, as those are always fun to listen to.

I still see plenty of gents walking around with this particular haircut, none of whom look terribly out of place. It's not nearly as distinct as some other styles can be. For that reason, I'm not entirely convinced that it's meant to be evoke the '80s or any bygone era for that matter. Either way, as the film appears to be set in 2019, any attempt that appeals to "modern sensibilities" only further bolsters the idea of this Bruce being a fairly modern take on the character. Also, with respect to the "Dark Deco" influence you touched on in your prior response, that's still not quite the same thing as "period piece" in the strictest sense of the term.

I was initially fond of this fairly modern haircut as it achieves a similar effect, accentuating the jawline, etc. without looking too slick.

Well they have no problem watching Stranger Things. I’m sure they’ll be fine.

What about this haircut?

In all seriousness, I'm more interested in Pattinson's performance as Bruce Wayne/Batman than how his hair is styled. I don't think it's worth getting hung up on that right now based off of a handful of candid set photos.

My thoughts exactly. So excited to see the performances in this.

LOL.

I didn't want to be a buzzkill, but yeah....I think people maybe care a little too much about his hair? Like I wasn't huge into the emo cut at first, but I trust it will work in context of the film.

I mean....Keaton made a frizzy, Jerry Seinfeld look work.
