Robin Hood

Its impossible that Crowe plays bouth roles,it just makes no sense......and if Robin Hood is really the Sheriffs secret identity then he would be forced to wear a Mask while being Robin hood.

Or he could just wear glasses when he's the sheriff.

That doesn't strike me as that large a spoiler. It sounds like it begins with the real Sheriff dying...and Robin Hood takes over...as The Sheriff. While still being Robin Hood?

I think so, but wouldn't it be cool if someone else took the role as Robin Hood then after he became The Sheriff.

The recent spoiler is included so dont read further if you havent read the spoiler

I was thinking that the movie starts with Robin Hood as the Sheriff unknown to the viewer and someone emulates Robin Hood, but more criminal, and Hood as Sheriff is after them, with Hood as Sheriff being a twist at the end. Which would fall with the original premise as the Sheriff persues Robin Hood, but the Sheriff is portrayed as the good guy and Hood the bad.

Good, I'd rather they remake the crap and have Ridley freaken' Scott make sure it gets done right and leave the classics alone.

But he ISN'T doing it right. I personally would just like to see a GOOD Robin Hood movie without any weird conceptual BS... Just tell the old story, but tell it well instead of some sort of secret identity crap like this or casting someone who can't do the accent while interjecting characters that shouldn't be there (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves).

Crowe preps for Ridley's 'Hood'

RUSSELL CROWE is still working on losing the 50 pounds he gained when he co-starred with Leonardo Di Caprio in the Ridley Scott film "Body of Lies." In February, the Down Under star will begin filming "Nottingham" under Ridley's direction -- a different look at the Robin Hood legend. Crowe will play two roles -- that of the heroic Robin and also the Sheriff of Nottingham. He is practicing on his Australian farm with a longbow. Said Crowe: "There's no point in making a second best Robin Hood film. We have to do it with the thought in mind that we've got the chance of making the best Robin Hood movie ever."

Does anyone know if that Robin Hood BBC series is any good? I have season 1 on my netflix queue. Just curious if it's worth watching.

he's playing BOTH Robin Hood and the Sheriff??? wow, what a bold move. does anyone know the reason for that decision?

Man, part of me would like the see a psychotic Robin Hood movie where he has a split personality and swordfights with himself, a la Fight Club. It would be completely horrible, but fun to watch.

Massive Spoiler:
He sees the real Sheriff die in battle at the beginning of NOTTINGHAM, and takes his place. So basically, Robin Hood will be posing as the Sheriff, who is dead

So I just read the script for this, and it seems like it's changed a bit before filming. It's an interesting take on the Sheriff of Nottingham. The script presents a "This is how it really was" version of the events surrounding the Robin Hood legend. Neither Robert Trotham (the Sheriff) nor Robin Hood are villains.

Robin of Locksley, who has been declared an outlaw, and has been in action for some time, is suspected of being a serial killer, and Robert Trotham, who has been newly appointed to Nottingham after a successful Crusades campaign, investigates these allegations as royal war and political issues force him to tax the people of Nottingham on behalf of Prince John, robbing manpower from what he considers a more important goal. There is some political stuff, and there's the requisite "love triangle" between the Sheriff, Robin and Marian, as well as some decent action. It almost reads like a slightly more serious version of the Kevin Costner version of Robin Hood mixed with the classic story, but there are some serious themes involved, like the nature of the law, and bigotry.

There's really, though, truth be told, not much of the Robin Hood legend here, beyond the basics. You sort of just see glimpses of Robin and his Merry Men for the most part until the story gets going for about the last third of it. Other than that, it's mostly just bits and pieces of the characters you'd expect to see (Little John, Friar Tuck), with the Sheriff as the protagonist, and supporting roles for Marian, Prince John, and Guy of Gisborne.

I dunno, could be interesting.

^So is Crowe still playing both roles? Is there still even a switch?

i dont get it... wasnt the sheriff of nottingham the bad guy ?

how can he play both..

that´s some weird stuff O_o

Well, I believe the first draft of the script is out online. I haven't read it yet. I might someday.

This sounds completely stupid. And btw, the best Sheriff of Nottingham ever was the hillbilly wolf in the Disney version. End of discussion.

Agreed. I would've much rather seen a movie where the Sheriff is simply the Sheriff but is sympathetic in a Javert-esque way instead of some silly plot where he is both the Sheriff and Robin Hood.

Screw that "Hee Haw" reject Sheriff of Nottingham from the Disney version! Alan Rickman FTMFW, dammit!
