Robin Hood

I will only watch if this happens to Crowe in the film.

Not sexy, a better word would be dashing. Like classic Hollywood looks.

Agreed.

Crowe would be a much better Nottingham than RH. Maybe Scott is going for a more rugged, less-roguishly handsome RH?

I just can't see Crowe as a credible RH. He'd be a few notches above the miscast Kevin Costner if he f's it up.

Anybody would be better than Costner. Goddamn, it makes me cringe even thinking about him in that suit.

The entire run of the BBC series Robin Hood is much better than the Costner tripe. I know a lot of people from the UK turn their noses up at that series, but the Costner movie was that bad. (Alan Rickman was the perfect Nottingham though.)

I really didn't like the comparisons of Robin Hood against the Raimi-produced Xena and Hercules though, since RH actually had a bigger budget to work with.

Morgan Freeman was great in it though, along with Alan Rickman.

Looking at it now, it's kinda dated and cheesy how Maid Marian was so skillful as a 'warrior' in her first appearance. I'm all for strong female types, but here, it was kinda tacked on.

i never caught it on the tube. though, i thought the production value was top notch, from the TV spots.

Is the Robin Hood series worth a look?

I enjoyed it personally -- particularly the first season and part of the second. It's definitely tailored for a younger audience (the dialogue is modern and the clothes are redone from other RH incarnations), although it doesn't veer into the camp of Xena or Hercules. If you expect something along the lines of Doctor Who or Torchwood, you're setting expectations too high.

I'd recommend you Netflix it if you live in the U.S.. Jonas Armstrong is an all right Robin, although I thought Guy of Gisbourne, Marian and the rest of Robin's band were well-cast. I'm still hung on the casting of the Sheriff of Nottingham, though.

^Was my comment really sig worthy?

Anywho, I haven't the slightest idea why we need another Robin Hood movie??? Is the idea really that interesting in this day and age? I mean if it was Robin hood in space I'd be interested but just another plain old Robin Hood movie? Booorrring.

Crowe's more suited to be the Sheriff of Nottingham than Robin Hood.

You know, if they keep altering the concept, maybe they'll come full circle and make a movie with Crowe as the sheriff and Bale as a terrorist Robin Hood like I've always wanted.

Bale should be the Sheriff so he can curse everytime Robin Hood shows up.

Little John messing with the candles in the tents.

Robin: What the **** are you doing over there? Here's you, da-da-da-da-da, all back there!

Russell Crowe looks more like Friar Tuck than Robin Hood these days. Still I am really interested to see Ridley Scott's take on the RH story.

It'll be hard to top "Robin and Marian" with Sean Connery as Robin and Robert Shaw as Nottingham.
Also Omar Little from The Wire was a great Robin Hood imo.

Just curious... since anything could happen with this movie and in a year's time we might have Sasha Baron Cohen playing Robin Hood and Will Ferrel playing the Sheriff... who would you cast if you were making a Robin Hood movie and what type of film would it be?

I personally think it would be interesting to do a Robin Hood film where both Robin and the Sheriff have their good and bad points, but for the most part they're both noble men who are forced to do things that they wouldn't normally do, given the circumstances. Prince John would be a greedy bastard though and Guy of Gisbourne would be a borderline psycho. Maid Marian would be strong-willed as usual, but a love triangle with her, Robin and the Sheriff would be interesting. I'd keep the title as "Nottingham;" I'm kind of disappointed that they're not using that anymore.

Here's who I'd cast, possibly...

Robin Hood: James Purefoy
Sheriff of Nottingham: Hans Matheson
Maid Marian: Gemma Arterton
Little John: Vinnie Jones
Guy of Gisbourne: Mark Strong (love this casting decision)
Prince John: Michael Sheen
Will Scarlett: Matthew Goode
Friar Tuck: Alfred Molina
King Richard: Gary Oldman
Will Stutely: Ray Winstone
Much the Miller's Son: Simon Pegg
