Robin Hood

I thought Crowe was playing the Sheriff?

That was the original pitch Scott pitched to Universal, but he has said he was revamped it completely shortly before or after Cate Blanchett agreed to do it. I'd wish Crowe would just play the Sheriff and hire someone unknown to play Robin Hood.

I willing to bet Ridley will call Jeremy Irons or maybe John Malkovich too play The Sheriff Of nOTTINGHAM. I see it being someone big as crow cause that rivalry is key. Wonder who will play King Richard though and whats with King John.

Crowe stars as the legendary figure known by generations as Robin Hood, whose exploits have endured in popular mythology and ignited the imagination of those who share his spirit of adventure and righteousness. In 13th century England, Robin and his band of marauders confront corruption in a local village and lead an uprising against the crown that will forever alter the balance of world power. And whether thief or hero, one man from humble beginnings will become an eternal symbol of freedom for his people.

The untitled Robin Hood adventure chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion (Blanchett), a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.

With their country weakened from decades of war, embattled from the ineffective rule of the new king and vulnerable to insurgencies from within and threats from afar, Robin and his men heed a call to ever greater adventure. This unlikeliest of heroes and his allies set off to protect their country from slipping into bloody civil war and return glory to England once more.

So after all the dust has settled I guess we're getting a traditional RH story. It feels a little ho-hum now but it could have been worse. I still think Crowe would make a better sheriff than Robin, though.

I notice they've made Marian a widow. I guess they decided Cate was too old to pass as a medieval maiden.

I can't even explain how weird this movie feels to me ...

Its not weird too me for Robin Hood has elements that kinda fit in Kingdom Of Heaven. Ridley can do the mid evil look better then has ever be done. We get thsi generations Robin Hood which is ok with me. Trust me this will be good in the hands of Blachett and Crowe.

I think Crowe would be better as the Sherriff and someone like Sean Bean should play Robin Hood.......

I feel the same way probably because the leads, especially Crowe, seem so miscast. Look how many people in this thread have commented that he would make a better Sheriff than Robin.

The constant plot do-overs makes things even worse.

Maid Marion is a widow...

Would a widow be referred to as "maid," (short for maiden) being as in those times maiden was usually a polite way of saying virgin?

Crowe should have been the Sherriff... I mean does he ever play the bad guy? He was darn good at it in 3:10 to Yuma... I don't get it. The only reasoning I can see is that maybe he wanted more scenes with Blanchett.

He played the bad guy in Virtuousity against Denzel's hero character. He went over the top but I thought it was a fun performance.

No, widow still meant a woman who's husband had died back then. I guess this is Robin Hood: The Later Years.

This is the main reason I was against Cate being cast. I know she's talented but she obviously didn't plausibly fit this role.

I dig it. although longer hair would have been good.

Thank God he lost the weight. I hope he's back in Gladiator shape.

I actually really like it. Simple yet it's right. Maybe later in the film he'll have more to wear. I wouldn't mind that. I always imagined Robin Hood with a mask.

clothes good.Croove looks good. like the hairstyle and that he is in shape.

but hes bow a little to perfect in this pic.

funny how this movie is still untitled. Just call it "Nottingham". Robin Hood is too generic. There's been countless movies called...Robin Hood. At least Costner's version was smart enough to have the subtitle "Prince of Thieves".

cool pic btw

It looks like Russell Crowe in a leotard playing Robin Hood. They couldn't at least have blondied his ass up or had him shave or something, man?

The pic looks good. I like that they gave him somewhat of the traditional Robin Hood look with the green and brown costume but made it a bit more dark and gritty than the Errol Flynn version.

I'm still not sure how this film is going to play out... I'll admit, I'm a bit disappointed that there apparently Guy of Gisbourne and the Sherriff won't be in the film, but if Scott truly is trying to stick as close to actual history as he can, then I'm cool with it.
