RoboCop Returns?

I spit up when I read this thread and died a little on the inside.

I wish Hollywood would leave great movies like this alone and make something original. No remake of Robocop will work because it's a product og the 1980's making a social commentary about the 1980s. The spirit willl be missing; a 2010 movie won't have the grittiness of the original, grit was something unique only to the mood of the times of the 1980s. Plus I doubt any remake will have anyone who they cast can perform on the levels of Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Ronny Cox, Miguel Ferrer or The Man KURTWOOD SMITH. the acting in this movie is so great; Weller's humanity, Alllen's compassion Smith's depravity Cox's coldness and Ferrer's sliminess can't be duplicated.

remaking this movie is like Remaking gone with the wind or the wizard of Oz. STUPID.

I'm sick of your whinings:

"Noooo... Robocop must not be remade!"
"Boooo, remakes, boooooo..."
"There is only one Robocop, the Paul Verhoeven one"

Piss off!
Without remakes we wouldn't have so many movies...
BTW, Robocop can be remade because the first one is full of pessimistic 80s stuff, like Reagan's star wars, nuclear war danger, silly TV spots, unstoppable rise of crime. But more important are the SFX, so lame!
ED-209 is beautiful only when is still and Robocop looks like a man in a suit, instead of a cyborg (the only good looking part is his head without the helmet). And for last, the picture: I would like to see a Robocop movie shot in anamorphic.
So, I'm totally for remakes, even more than one.
I'm already awaiting a Transformers remake, a Superman one, Terminator and Aliens vs Predator (with Colonial Marines).

So every movie with a good story that made it successful and cast that did well in their roles should just be remade into a modern setting and they should compeletly ignore the social comentary and satire of its time which made the film so unique originally:whatever:
So we should remake every movie with outdated special effects

Some remakes are perhaps nessasary as there is something that can be added or changed to the movie to improve it (not talking about effects but charaters, story, ect).

People are complaining because the movie was ok as it is. If anything a decent sequel carrying on he events of the first two movie would be more intresting then rehashing a movie that most likely will have little added to it by being remade.

I understand a big part of Robocops appeal was the political metaphores and social commentary on The Regan Era, but the new millenium is a much more complex time. I would love to see how they equate that same political satire to the 2000's.

there wont be any satire in this remake. it will be a PG-13 popcorn CGI robocop movie. IMO

No, It will definitley be a hard "R", that has been confirmed

Then this movie will most likely have a budget of ( at most) 80 million.
If they get a A-list star , the budget might be increased to 100 million but i seriously doubt that.

Because if the budget is higher then 90 million , chances are the studio will go for the Pg-13 rating. Higher the budget , higher the demand for that rating.

Honestly sometimes i just don't underdstand studio politics. On one hand they wanna remake a movie. Fine by me. Then they let someone write a script. Also fine by me. Turns out the script is amazing BUT in order to film THAT particular script , the budget has to be high meaning they have to get their Pg-13 rating.
Are people that ******ed to actually consider that maybe it's a good idea to write a script that can be made into a movie for a reasonable budget while still keeping being faithful to the original movie.

I think the recent success of movies such as Wanted, 300 and Sin City are enough to give this film a hefty budget and ensure a hard R rating.

Taken from BOMOJO
Budget - Domestic BO
Wanted $75 million - $93,037,600
Sin City $40 million - $74,103,820
300 $65 million - $210,614,939

See the pattern :cwink:.
If the budget is low enough , they can get a Hard R rating. The question remains , just how commercial is the script. If the script has all these big action sequences and if the studio wants to go with that script , chances are you'll be seeing Pg-rated Robocop.
It all depends on the script , the willingness of the director/producer(s) and just what way the movie is filmed ( real sets or green screen) to see if this movie gets it's R rating or not.

I just don't know why need more than 80 million dollars for Robocop. Unless they are going "Transformers" with ED-209 and having an ellaborate final batlle where they destroy half the city...
And that still won't be half as cool as how Robo handled him at the end of Robocop.
2 second showdown. Rocket Launcher. 'Nuff said.

I am ALL FOR a re-make. So =P
I want to see great special effects and great action done with a bigger budget and more advanced technology (for the FX) I don't even like the original anymore...it's too dated.

Yea heck I think the first one is perfect really and to those saying that he ooked like a guy in a suit well he did look like a cyborg to me .

wellers performace was awesome really its an underated performace, if everyone knew everything he went through and his level of dedication to the role they would understand. His mannerisms and movements and voice is what brought the character to life as much or more than the actual suit. Specially the way he moved his neck, the suit is still awesome. Plus i don't know how are they going to top the shootout in the warehouse in which robo takes down basically an army, I saw the movie recently and that scene was beautifuly shot capturing the mayhem and violence yet doing it in such a way that you didn't lose yourself in the chaos while still getting imersed in it some of the wide shots in that scene are spectacular.

I was reading about Aronofsky as possible director earlier today. Interesting if he decides to direct it. As for the rating its already been confirmed back at the ny licesing show the studio is gearing it for a hard "R" rating. So intill there is info saying elsewhere i will believe it will be staying R.

Darren Aronofsky is doing ROBOCOP?
awesome --
i was always behind remaking Robocop (waaay overrated flick w/great premise) but w/DA on it... 110% behind this.

Darrens a dude who knows the time.

Did any one see these promo flyer sheets on the remake. I believe they came out a few weeks back.

rc2010-1.jpg

Even here they are stating their target demo is males 18+ so still enforcing the staying hard R rating like at the ny event a few weeks back as the studio people said it would be staying.

Well to investers they probably wanted to say overall the series has been good even though number 3 was a stinker, along side with that prime directives miniseries. But yea that promo flyer, and the studio people back at ny licesing event said they will be staying hard R so untill things change i will believe it will stay R. Marketed correctly r rated film could be great look for example on alot of those R rated comedies, juno was r wasnt it, and the sucess of wanted which was R rating.

I'm glad they are keeping a Hard R but...two successfull sequels? Didn't the third one make like $10 mil?

Yeah and that's after being held back a year or two after it was finished.

Looks like they are more concerned about selling Robocop and its licences than in planning a well done movie...

2 and 3 were awful. The bad guys were terrible in those two compared to the first movie.

I agree with you on 3 but you didn't like 2? It was a Frank Miller classic!
The best part IMO was the fact that the villan was better. Kane was insane, he was the "anti-robocop", the venom to Robocops Spider-man. Plus, that ending battle was the best Robocop fight on screen. period.

it really wasn't. They butchered the original frank miller treatment more/less completely, so it's not frank miller classic.
