I prefer the Terminator movies as action movies. Linda Hamilton's arc from waitress to kickass mother of the messiah is also well done.

That said, Robocop is a far superior social satire/prediction of things to come. The "dinosaurs" did come back. Too bad they didn't include a lot of people driving around in repurposed military vehicles to really drive it home. "Privatization" has replaced government. "I'd buy that for a dollar" is a 21st century sitcom catch phrase. Heck, it looks like a Fox sitcom. Also, Peter Weller is a better actor and turned in a better performance than anyone in the Terminator movies.

Different strengths and weaknesses for both.

1. Cared about the main character.

The most humanistic character in the movie, is the robot. The disgusting aspect of the movie is the humans. In Terminator, specifically Terminator 2, I found John Conner to be alittle *****bag for the most part, Honestly, if kid John Conner, our future hero died I couldn't have cared less. His mother wasn't really very likable either. The Terminator is likable but the aspects of humanity/machine which Terminator 2 touches upon is better done in Robocop.

2. The music score by Basil Poledouris for Robocop is better.

3. Robocop has a better ending, the last word when he answers back with "Murphy" sums up the movie perfectly, it's almost a reverse Frankenstein story.

4. Robocop has touches of dark humour. Terminator 2 has this also but it works better in Robocop.

I'm not saying Terminator sucks, they are both great movies but I would argue Robocop is UNDER-rated and that Terminator (the first one at least) is OVER-Rated.

Robocop is definitely underrated.

Verhoven did a great job with (dare i mention Starship Troopers)

And the score is comparable to Brad Fidel of T1 although arguably as unique.

Now this is only fitting for this thread.

They are both Uncut I like the graphics in T2 but I like the concept of Robocop. I have a Robocop 3D poster in my room (as in its like a statue of the poster) and I think they are best Uncut and both are classics its hard to really narrow down which is best to be honest.

I love both, but I think prefer Terminator

As long as "the first movie" is specified, I'll always vote Robocop. The first movie was genius, unfortunately every - and I mean every- attempt to cash in on the successful satire, whether in movie, cartoon, or comic book form, has been a dismal failure.

I was genuinely surprised to see the poll results were as close as they were, I thought Terminator would have blown Robo out of the water.

Not that I have anything against Robocop, it's a fun movie, just imo Terminator out classes it big time.

Gotta go with Robocop in this one. The hero is a principled character in a corrupt world who walks real lame. So I relate. Besides, the first person view in Robocop was always more, interesting to me. What witht the scanlines and the directives and the reticule.

Terminator 2 is all right, but I enjoy the cheese and Satire that only Robocop can deliver.

Watching RoboCop and I like it, and the theme music, and I like both but maybe in a fight Robo would win. Due to better aim and learn how to defeat Terminator.

They're both great movies, by two great directors at the top of their game.
