I said it. I'd much rather see the original Gundam series as a movie that could lead to a trilogy with the second installment being Zeta and the third Char's Counterattack.

or better still....

A Gundam Wing trilogy that divides the entire show into 3 movies (as it is probably the densest in terms of political and external events) would rock. Maguire would make a pretty good Quatre too.


Robotech is okay, but makig it no alien based but a drama about man fighting man with pseudo-war philosophy would have been cooler. This is more like Transformers with mechas.

Could be cool.

Hell to the yes. Gundam Wing is one of the few animes I can say I truly watched religiously. I loved the twists and turns, relationships, and heavy political backdrop. That'd be amazing.

Yeah, there was also that, but one country offered to accept them until a Zentradei attack wiped out one of their cities. I think that's the same battle where Rick and Max lost their teammate.

What do you think was wrong with the robots in Transformers?

The way that the Transformers were changed for that movie was OK to a point, because they were alien beings and all the overly-complicated tiny metal bits sort of made sense. Even then, the movie Transformers were too busy and buglike in design.

The Macross/Robotech robots are iconic and work great the way they are. I don't want to see them over-designed like the Transformers were. Adding some increased detail and complexity is fine. Turning them into totally unrecognizable bug-robots is NOT fine.

Some things:

-If Maguire were to play a character in the movie, he would really be most suited for a slightly older Max Sterling.

-Macross has been released in it's original un-edited form by ADV, which includes a new English produced by ADV (Vic Mignogna as Hikaru Ichijo, or Rick Hunter in Robotech).

-Carl Macek was the mastermind of Robotech and uniting the three separate series together as one show. Macek was a huge fan of Macross and Mospeada and his goal was to get the series aired in some form in the US, and at the time it was the only way to do it. The combination of all the series led to the creation of the Robotech saga which did create a significant and loyal fanbase in the US.

-The original Robotech aired as one season of 85 episodes. There were many attempts to revive it afterward that didn't really take off. Specifically there was Robotech The Sentinels which takes place about 9 years after the end of the Macross saga and Rick and Lisa are about to get married.

-The Shadow Chronicles, and the next Robotech movie being produced by Harmony Gold are the newest revival to the Robotech saga. Shadow Chronicles basically fills in the blanks from the very end of the series, and we see a little bit of Rick Hunter and what he was up to at the time. It looks like the next one will be the true sequel to the end of Robotech.

Who would have thunk that Maguire was a Robotech nut? I'm guessing he probably watched the show in his elementary school days.

The fan base for Macross is world wide and has had a following for 20+ years. This is much bigger than any of the American comics because it’s global following.

If this ends up being another Fist of the Northstar people are going to be pissed.

I wouldn't even want them to DREAM of changing the mechas. They are already well designed as they are, as evidenced by the clean shapes the toys themselves change into.

The robots in Transformers were done the way they were because of a few factors, including:

• No disappearing parts (eg: Prime's trailer)
• No size-shifting
• Giving the robots, who are supposed to be alive, the ability to convey sentiments using facial expressions

The mechas in the cartoon never had size-shifting or disappearing parts. Nor are they alive, so there is no need for them to convey any sense of emotion.

All I care is that ILM has the ability to create the mechas clean and "realistic", and have them interact with live environments flawlessly (or as flawlessly as possible using current tech), as I feel the robots did in Transformers.

I just really want a Gundam movie (preferably Wing) and feel if this gets made Gundam would be called drivative for being so similar.

But neither is very much like Transformers and both I think are frankly superior to the Trannies (especially Bay's empy and shallow movie).

But we'll see. I also hope Maguire just produces because I think he and Raimi need to do one more Spidey to redeem their story.
