I think Electro is going to be a bit of a "weaker" villain in the sense that he is front and center, but more of a distraction from what's really going on. He is theatrically powerful, but in reality he is just a pawn. Anyone agree?

I'm surprised critics don't have a franchise fatigue with X-Men already. I'm sick of that franchise. I don't think the timeline events make DOFP more ambitious, but oh well.

Well Singer is back for one thing and his first two films were acclaimed by critics and loved by many fans (including myself). Plus the film is based on a classic storyline from a legendary creative duo.

Y'know, I honestly never cared for Bryan Singer's X-Men films. I always found them to be very bland and never captured the fun of X-Men. Though critics aren't really aware of the comic book storyline, which is something I never really cared for either.

I am really disappointed in the fact that they decided to combine the First Class cast with the original trilogy cast and connect the storylines together… the continuity makes no sense, and the timeline is a huge mess.

I disliked X-men films when they killed cyclope but i never been much fan of the comics..

Well remember in the deleted sewer scene from TASM1, Ratha wanted to take Peter with him, probably to study him. There is most likely something in Peter's blood that could perhaps cure Norman, so maybe Harry wants to capture him to save his father?

Its possible that Electro is Oscorp's "secret weapon" that they try to use against Spider-Man. He will most likely fail and then Harry takes matters into his own hands.

TASM1 of course had its issues, but overall I liked it a lot. But yeah, I'm expecting something greater from the sequel.

I'm confident that however TASM2 turns out, it will at least be an improvement, even if its only a slight one. But an improvement at that. Though I do expect a big improvement.

Well you said it already, the future of this series is riding on this film. I don't think a slight improvement will cut it. This series needs to go from zero to sixty by the time May arrives. Even if the film is mediocre, Sony will still move forward if it makes big money. Would we really want them to do so if the film is disappointing? That will just create more apathy with the audience towards this franchise and diminish the character further. That would be the worst case scenario, the character trapped at a studio that has made three straight disappointments after the start they had.

Oh i always think that Ratha helped Peter to be who he is now i mean not Spiderman but with his abilities.

Remember the look on Ratha face when he sees Peter?and then he takes the scientists out of the biocable room? In the hope that he gets him and become what Richard wants? And then gets Peter new super blood to cure Norman because the formula is tailored to only work with Peter blood?

I don't think the film has to be THAT much better than TASM1, but it certainly has to be very good. If the movie is a disappointment, and the series overall doesn't do well, then at some point they aren't going to see Spider-Man as profitable and the rights would just go back to Marvel (eventually). Honestly, if Batman can revive himself after Batman & Robin, I think that Spider-Man can revive himself after a mediocre film.

I kinda agree with this, TASM2 has to be a big improvement over TASM. Even though I really like TASM.

I don't want to sound hyperbolic, but this franchise is on the brink of becoming irrelevant imo. Not in terms of $$$, but in terms of credibility. Transformers makes huge money at the box office, but it's a big empty spectacle that doesn't have a lot of credibility in terms of having inherent worth. A third average/disappointing Spidey film in a row would run the risk of facing this kind of general attitude. A money making cash cow/studio grab that the majority of fans scoff at relative to other films in the genre, nothing more. Sony/Webb needs to bring it! Show what this franchise is capable of, show why this character has endured for over 50 years.

I don't think it would ever come to the point where its in the same category as Transformers though. If this franchise failed, however, then eventually it would end and Spidey would probably disappear on screen for a while and eventually make a comeback.

TASM didn't really 'disappoint' as far as critical reception and Box Office goes. I can definitely understand why it was disappointing for some fans, though. They have their own desires for a Spidey film. I do, without a doubt, want TASM2 to outdo it in every conceivable way.

Oh yeah, it was mostly positive reception, despite all that was going against it. If TASM1 could get a 73% with all of those reboot criticisms, I think TASM2 can get a higher score.

Despite what you think about ASM, it's pretty impressive that it did so well critically against the grain of the reboot and doing it to soon. I wonder how much different the score would have been if either ASM was the very first Spider-man movie or if more time had passed between the franchises.

The issue is that these critics are going to walk into the movie with pre judgmental hatred for it.

I don't know that I would call it 'hatred.' But yeah, there's def a preconceived notion that will be in critic's thought process before seeing the movie, especially for those that did not like the first film for the reasons above. If ASM2 is actually a good movie and not just a good Spidey movie, I can see it overcoming that hurdle or whatever you wanna call it.
