As you all know, I have been heavily endorsing the wonderful moderate Republican, former New York Mayor, Rudolph William Louis Giuliani III, KBE for President. Now we all knew that he was going to try to get the nomination, but it sure did take him a damn long time for him to do it. Last night on Larry King Live, he finally announced that he is indeed going to do it:

Giuliani Says He's in 2008 Race

WASHINGTON (Feb. 15) - Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, acclaimed for his leadership after the September 11 attacks, confirmed he is running for U.S. president in 2008, eliminating any lingering doubt about his candidacy.

"Yes, I'm running," Giuliani declared twice on Wednesday night on CNN's "Larry King Live" show.

There have been doubts among Republicans about whether Giuliani was serious about a White House run in 2008.

National polls have shown Giuliani leads eight other Republicans, in part because of his steely and comforting leadership amid the chaos of the 2001 hijacked plane attacks that brought down New York's most visible landmark.

"I think I can make a difference. I believe that the country needs leadership," Giuliani said on CNN when asked what led him to purse the top political job in the United States.

Earlier this month, Giuliani filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission establishing a committee to explore a presidential bid, but he stopped short of making a formal announcement.

Giuliani became one of the Republican Party's most popular figures after September 11. However, he faces an uphill battle winning over conservatives who wield considerable influence in party primaries because of his stance on some social issues, including his support for gay rights and abortion rights.

All I have to say is GO RUDY! Win the nomination and bring back sensibility in the Republican leadership! :cmad:

I would love to see Giuliani win! Its going to be hard for him to win though.

Awesome. I'm a major Giuliani supporter. I believe in everything he stands for and supports, specifically gay rights and his pro-choice stance. He's a man of integrity who brought progress to New York and can easily bring it to the rest of America.

If he does not win, Canada is my destination.

eh...he's also very pro-war.

So? I personally have never been against the war in Iraq. I personally do feel Sadaam did need to be taken out, and that there needed to be order brought to Iraq.

What I'm against is the way the war was carried out, and this is how Giuliani feels. I think we weren't properly prepared when we went in 2002, and only now have we realized that.

"so?"

so, i'm against it. that's "so".

and i won't be voting for rudy. i cannot in good faith bring myself to support a republican. say what you will about the dems...republicans are ****ing evil.

Well Im a proud democrat. I would be willing to vote for Rudy, but Im not wild about his belief on the Iraq war. However, He's the best choice in the republican party, and I hope he gets the nod.

I hate when people say this. I am Democrat (albeit a very moderate one), but I do come from a family made up almost entirely of Conservative Republicans.

Republicans are no more evil than Democrats. Both parties are compromised of well meaning American patriots who simply support different values. Just because you differ with their values doesn't mean they're evil. Yes, there's some who are corrupt, but overall the Republican pary isn't really evil, they're a just a bit misguided and narrowminded on certain issues.

And frankly, in the last few years, the Democrats have not been any better. The Republicans may have ****ed a lot of stuff up, but all the Democrats have been doing is sitting on their asses complaining about everything without doing a damn thing to rectify what the Republicans did wrong. The bottom line is that both parties have been doing nothing but acting like children. They've been plying The Blame Game ever since the war started and getting nothing doen. In many aspects, as a matter of facts in pretty much all respects, both parties have been equally bad.

What a mature, rational statement :whatever:

I like what rudy did in new yuk, and on 9/11, but I can't take his position on abortion or gun control.
He would make a great VP for Newt though.

the dems haven't done anything because up until this past election THEY'VE BEEN OUTNUMBERED. which means NOT IN POWER.

so save the blame game bull**** talk until after they REALLY haven't done anything. i mean, sheesh. at least give them some time to **** up. :)

in all seriousness, the conservatives ARE evil. the democrats might be well meaning, but logically ******ed, but they ain't evil.

I've been long time Republican, But Im voting for Obama in 08.

I dont like this Iraq war... American blood was spilt for no reason, and we've wasted so much money.

Oh, please, just because they were outnumbered, doesn't mean they were powerless. They still could've done something other than playing The Blame Game, which is what they did. The current batch of both Democrats are and Republicans are equally embarassing to both parties.

since when did having a strong stance on defense become a bad thing? As long as he is not war-mongering there is nothing wrong with being strong on defense.

In all seriousness the country is much better off when the dems do as little as possible. Just look at thier "first hundred hours" agenda for proof.
But I can't forgive the republicans for trying to out-dem the dems.

Hey Matt, you being the political expert that you are, do you think Giuliani hypothetically might have abetter chance at winning if he ran as Democrat, since a lot of his policies are more in line with their own, or will that alienate his Republican supporters? Just curious.

you do know that things are decided on by voting, right? so please explain to me what exactly a minority can do when the system is majority based. because really, when your hands are tied like that, there's not much you can do but *****.

what in iraq were we (are we still) defending ourselves from??

There is no way he can win the Republican nomination. His best chance would've been to try and beat Bush in the 2004 primary, but by now the 9/11 appeal has worn off and the conservative base will see just how damn liberal he is.
