Rumor: Mass Effect Trilogy coming to PS3?

More than likely ME2 would be released for Holiday 2009

Bioware are finishing up Dragon Age Q1 and (assuming it isn't another team working on it) working on the playstation 3/xbox360 versions Q4 , they are also working on "The Old Republic" which is larger than any of the other games they have made content wise, really can't see that happening unless they have been working on it for a while.

Serves them right.
Microsoft should have bought Bioware when they had the chance, and i´m positive Bioware would have wanted it.

How's that?

Since Knights of the old Republic, all Bioware games were made for both the PC and the Xbox.
KOTOR, Jade Empire and Mass Effect, all came out to the Microsoft console first, PC second.

More than once i read them saying they loved the Xbox.
And in a particular interview (about would Mass Effect ever go to the PS3) i remember reading, when asked if they would ever game for the Playstation, they replied that, they didn´t knew how to make games for the Sony console, but they knew very well how to work the Xbox, and they would never compromise a game´s quality for money.
Guess they learned how to work the PS3 fast enough now they are part of EA.

All in all, they always praised the Xbox and Microsoft.

I agree, I don't get why Microsoft didn't buy VG Holding Corp. and get Pandemic as well. It would have really made their first party efforts more impressive.

Along with closing Ensemble, letting Bungie go independent, and have Activision buy Bizarre Creations, it's like Microsoft's first and second party efforts are going downhill.

Oh well, at least it's not like Nintendo which is being more focused on games like Wii Music, Wii Fit, and whatnot instead of actual genuine games. :o

If this happens, I will almost certainly buy a PS3...

I might actually stick this on now  I have many geth to kill! MUWAHAHAHAHA

I'm not entirely sure that porting ME makes business sense at this point, because it currently retails for $19.99, and at best they could raise the price on the port to $39.99, and considering that the marketing blitz for it is already long over (and it's old), the sales that are likely in relation to production costs associated with adapting to the new hardware just might not be worth it.

However, ME2 is fresh on the horizon, and co-developing it for all platforms simultaneously would be a lot more efficient (read: less expensive) than porting ME1 after it's already been fully developed. Even though I still hope that ME1 manages to get ported, I think a multiplat release of ME2 is a lot more likely, even if ME1 remains otherwise.

The thing is, they can't just skip out the first one and jump straight to part 2 for the PS3. Decisions you make in the first one tie into the sequel, every action you make effects the universe. I don't wanna spoil it if you haven't played it but that's pretty much the best feature about the game, alot of things you do in the first one has consequences in the second one.

Well then what about the people who buy ME2 on Xbox 360 without playing the first one? Will they get an error message saying "No Mass Effect data detected. You can't play, LOL!"? It's pretty obvious that they're going to have some kind of opening cutscene that sums up the first game, or at least fills in the player on the important stuff. Otherwise, they would be alienating a lot of potential customers who never got the first one. You won't get the complete experience if you have no ME1 data, but it's better than nothing.

:hehe: Well obviously there won't be no error message thingy! :hehe:

What I mean is there is certain decisions in the game that will effect the plot of the sequels. I'll try to be as mystic as I can here. On one particular mission you have to deal with a alien species that is thought to be extinct for thousands of years. A rather powerful alien species. Now, you can decide to save the queen or kill it. You have to weigh up the options. Will the queen recognize that a human saved it and come to humanitys aid in the sequels? Or will it breed and mulitply and try to take out the galaxy? And if you decide to kill it, have you just killed a possible future ally? Things like that.

Can anyone explain and update me on the supposed "spyware" (if that's what it was)
that came with Mass Effect? That was the only thing that made me leery of getting this game for my PC.

Digital rights management

On May 6, 2008, Bioware confirmed that it would be using the latest version of digital rights management software SecuROM with the Windows release of Mass Effect.[79] This decision attracted criticism as SecuROM would require online activation after installation in addition to a "check-in", where the product must re-validate itself every 10 days or it will cease to operate until the next successful check-in.[80] On May 9, 2008, Bioware decided to remove the 10 day periodic re-authentication, saying that they "listened very closely to its fans and we made this decision to ensure we are delivering the best possible experience to them." Players will still need to connect to the server before they launch Mass Effect for the first time or download new game content.[81][82] The game can be authenticated 5 times. After that players will have to contact EA Customer Support, who may then on a case-by-case basis "supply any additional authentications that are warranted."[83] A class-action lawsuit was filed by Florida resident Brandon Gardner against Electronic Arts on October 6, 2008. It states that the implementation of SecuROM within the game's installation sequence is invasive upon the individual's privacy due to SecuROM's installation within Windows XP/Vista's kernel and a user's inability to conventionally delete SecuROM without having to reformat or replace his/her hard disk.[citation needed]

If you get the steam version, there is none.

Oh noes.

A way for EA to throw the rumor off until they announce it in a dramatic way or are they really not porting it?

What do you think?

To tell the truth, I'm not saying this to be an ass, but ME was never really on my radar. I'm sure it's a great game, and if it gets a port I will look into it and probably even purchase it considering the reviews it's gotten. Bioshock was the same.

However with the above quoted, I think EA are porting something. There are rumors of EA porting Left 4 Dead, and ME. They recently dropped a RTS for PS3 due to resources. However they are making most of their money on PS3. So if they didn't have the resources for that RTS, that means their PS3 porting team is working on something else. They've commented they have teams that have gotten far better at porting to PS3 since the Orange Box. So they have to be working on something, we'll just have to find out which game it is down the road.

They are?

Sorry, worded wrong. Meant they are making more on PS3 (last time I checked) than on 360, PC, or Wii, just not combined.

Just meant that since EA makes more money on PS3 than PC or 360, and they try hard to be multiplatform anyway, that they most likely are working on bringing one of the bigger games over to PS3 that they are rumored to be working on.

yes despite what most people think. EA's reports over the past few months have shown that they are making most of their game revenue from PS3 titles.

It's things like this that make me put less stock in online estimates of what titles sell. For most of the year we saw 360 (including EA titles) decimating PS3 sales on software according to various sites. Then we have Konami, Ubisoft, Namco Bandai, and EA release their actually revenue and profit reports, and they show they made more $$ on PS3 (especially in Konami's case). I know VG chartz isn't reliable, NPD is good but it only covers the US right? Plus it's hard to get ahold of NPD info anymore. I wish there was a more reliable way to track sales.

In the end it doesn't matter unless you work for EA, but a lot of rumors get started this way that lead you to believe PS3 software sales are abysmal and no one wants to develop for them. I'm sure 360 software sales do top PS3 sales, it just makes me question how far off some sites are.

It's interesting to see the pc taking in more than the 360 considering that's the platform that gets shunted for physical retail sales. People whine about evil EA and DRM yet, EA do a good job of supporting the pc, better than Microsoft. I suspect when the sims 3 arrives they will make a bomb.
