Rumor: Squirrel Girl and The New Warriors

It is primarily the reality tv era New Warriors line up with Great Lakes Avenger's Mister Immortal and Squirrel Girl

Really wanted Silhouette and Darkhawk on the roster since I want the 90s New Warriors.

Also feel like Avengers Academy can't be done thanks to Fox owning X-23 and Prodigy so New Warriors is really the best place for Hazmat.

And America Chavez and Stature would also be good choices for a second season.

Huh? X-23 didn't join the Avengers Academy until the tail end of the book's run and Prodigy from the New X-Men was not involved in any significant way.

I get that and Young Avengers mixed up a lot

I don't think we'll see any prominent Young Avengers characters on TV. I could see them either replacing current Avengers members on the big screen or spun off into their own franchise. And a younger version of Stature is already part of the Ant Man (& the Wasp) franchise.

Interesting they mention Speedball growing up idolizing the Avengers. How long were the Avengers around in-universe?

If they replace any characters in future seasons I suspect they'll use lesser known, potentially funny teenage characters left from the New Warriors, GLA (Dinah Soar, Good Boy, Gravity), 50-state initiative (Butterball, Cloud 9, 3-D Man, Gorilla Girl)

five years now give or take. In Civil War, Falcon even mentioned the events of Winter Soldier happening two years before.

Interesting selection for the New Warriors.

I wish we could change the thread name now. Can't wait to see who they cast!

I think, technically, we just need a new thread in the Misc. TV forum (although I would push for a reorganization of everything so comic tv isn't buried there).

The only face I recognize is Matthew Moy due to 2 Broke Girls.

How do you not recognize the AT&T girl.

kate comer is beautiful. I hope she gets lots of attention as Debrii.

I hope the show stays relatively lighthearted. No need to go into darker territory here. The show can use the lower-level villains of the MU and the more comedic characters. They can also invent villains, since Disney/Marvel will own them.

New Warriors doesn't exactly have well known villains.

Supervillain teams like Psionex, Heavy Mettle, Force of Nature and Folding Circle are notable foes.

What would you have said if, after seeing these commercials the first time someone was like: "Yeah, she's perfect for Squirrel Girl"

In fact, IIRC, this is the first time someone from a popular/recognizable set of commercials has become part of a popular/recognizable tv series. I don't see the "Can you hear me now" guy appearing as a regular on NCIS, y'know?

I recognize her from a Paul Feig web series

Ant-Man himself started out doing commercials. It's not that rare for people to start out with smaller gigs like that before getting bigger roles in shows or movies.

Vayntrub was also in "This is Us" and has done a lot of web shows

Paul Rudd literally does not age.

I'm totally expecting them to go against some lesser known villains. Particularly those from the New Warriors comics of course, as well as the solo comics of Squirrel Girl, Speedball and Night Thrasher as well as the G.L.A. comic.

Some of them will be characters with silly concepts for sure (this will be a bit of a comedy after all) and I'm hoping they'll take some bottom of the barrel characters. Just look at how their powers are described. I don't have the exact quotes but the descriptions have made them sound rather silly and pointless "powers of a squirrel", "really low tier telekinetic who can pretty much move a plastic cup and not really much more", "immortal... or so he claims"

Looking at New Warriors Vol. 3 which this seems to be based on there's a couple of villains to take: Armadillo, Corruptor and the Ani-Men.
But I'm sure they'll take something from at least earlier volumes as well, options being such as

Psionex, Force of Nature, Bengal, Sphinx (*2), Folding Circle, Sea Urchin, Mandroids, Darkling, Air Force, Gargantua, Soldiers of Misfortune, Eugenix, Boomerang, Heavy Mettle, Biohazard, Blizzard, Speedfreek, Grey Gargoyle, Zodiac, Midnight's Fire, Machinesmith, Dread Dealers, the Darkhold Dwarf, the Tribe, Choke the Bear

The G.L.A. until recently only really had Leather Boy, I suppose. Now they also have Pitchfork, Firebrand, Nain Rouge and the Bod Squad but those might be too recent.

Night Thrasher fought the Poison Memories, the Folding Circle, Aardwolf, Air Force, Tantrum, Sphinx, the Supremacists and his own secret half-brother (Luke Cage already did that though). Most of those are not as noticable I'd say.

Speedball has the whole Speedball Revenge Squad to pick from. With names like the Bug-Eyed Voice, the Harlequinn Hit Man, the Ghost of Springdale High and the Sticker you can't really go wrong.

Squirrel Girl doesn't have many either but the likes of Brain Drain (Nazi brain-in-a-jar), Swarm (Nazi-swarm-of-bees), Ratatoskr (the Asgardian squirrel) and Enigmo (biomass manipulation + square-cube law = self injury) have recently been in her comics.

And since this is a comedy, you can bet at least one of the following will appear: the Wrecking Crew, Leap-Frog, Flag-Smasher, (Lady) Stilt-Man, Swarm, Typeface, the Headmen, Grim Reaper or Doctor Bong, regardless of whose comic they actually belong to.
