Runtime confirmed by Fox: 92 minutes!

Damn if this is true it really sucks. I thought they would have bumped up the running time by 20-30 minutes from the original like they did with X-Men and X-2, its just going to feel rushed if its 90 minutes. :csad:

Um... you guys do realize that 90 minutes is pretty much the standard for films? you guys are just spoiled by these 2+ hour epics lately. This would be like complaining that TV show is 30 minutes rather than an hour.

It is what it is and at the end of the day 92 minutes can seem to long or tto short or just right. that will depend on the film itself and to that, I have not a clue as to how good or bad it will be. All I can do is hope.

When will the first critics start posting reviews?

Pretty much every comic book film I would rate highly has been at least 2 hours. And pretty much every comic book film I hate has been well under 2 hours. Coincedence? When your making a film with characters that have years and years of history and development and it is getting crammed into a 90 minute timeframe it is disappointing at least to me personally. Will this movie be entertaining? Sure. Will it live up to the full potential of what a Fantastic Four movie could be? Highly doubtful. Just look at the first movie. The running time ruined aspects of a few characters.

and the real point is here odiin is that 90 minutes regardless is NOT enough at all for the Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four and Galactus arc... this is a master classic story arc in comics and deserved at least a 2 hr treatment to fully develop... not this bull**** Fox style editing... this is gonna go down the pisser much like X-3 and Daredevil

Boo crappy 92 minute runtime. HOORAY BEER!!!

Seriously, this runtime sucks. I thought we got 95 minutes, and here we have 92 minutes (though while 3 minutes isn't much of a difference, this sucks). I mean, I would go into an animated movie expecting this kind of runtime, not a live action movie cramming two classic FF stories (I think saying 3 due to the wedding is pushing it, cause I mean it is just a wedding. It is not like a big arc like the other two are). This movie will most likely not be able to breath, and be remembered much more for its action than any story elements.

As for SM3, runtime wasn't people's issue, but people thought it needed more time or to cut one story out (which I disagree with, and I think the film very much so works since my subsequent viewings). Great movies are ones that make you think once you are leaving the theater. With Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, Hulk, Daredevil: The Director's Cut (though that was on a significantly smaller screen), and Batman Begins I left the theater thinking I just saw something powerful (with superheroes mixed in) as well as feeling that the ride was fun. FOX have been able to make something great, but they continue to squander their opportunity to do so. The X-Men films (while enjoyable) have not been nearly as good as they could and same goes for FF. Only the DD: DC was great, but that was not a theatrical release and the version FOX made was more like the first FF and X-Men films.

No matter what people tell me, this movie will more than likely not breath, and be eye candy. With characters like this (especially someone as deep as the Silver Surfer...few other characters are as philosophical as he is), a fleshed out movie would have been best. I also expect an EE in two years time after this is a success (I have no doubt it will), and FF3 is coming out.

I now wish FOX didn't have the rights to the Silver Surfer. He is my second favorite comic hero, and I will more than likely never see a great Surfer movie (at least on the big screen...I may get a great DC like DD did, but that is the best I could hope for). The Surfer's cosmic universe is VERY deep and meaningful, and FOX is a company that likes to take substance out of the equation whenever possible for money. That is the opposite of what requires a quality Surfer movie (or FF movie for that matter).

However, I hope the be proven wrong opening day, but I don't expect to.

I don't like this runningtime either. I don't understand why Fox would do this: reaction to the trailers is mostly positive, there is a good buzz surrounding this movie, why can't they have a little faith in this movie? It doesn't have to be 3 hour movie, but 92 minutes is way too short.

Second, they are ruining Story's product: negative reactions will be directed to him, not at Fox. Complaints about the direction, the story, the character development will all be blamed on him, while the extended cut of FF seems to show that there definetly was character development, but that it was cut. The same goes for the actors, the short runningtime will probably effect their performances, which is just out of their control.

I really hope this movie will be good, and I still think it can be good, but the short runningtime doesn't bode very well.

The interesting question is did they shoot a 92 minute movie

It is true ... read the thread title! :oldrazz:

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer Completed!

Tim Story has confirmed to us that Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is now complete! He has the following words to say to fans that are concerned about the length of the movie: "Go see it and then speak. I think it's inappropriate to judge any movie on it's running time. Does this mean every movie over 2 hrs is great? We're down to weeks guys. Relax."

(f4movies.com)

RELAX! :hyper:

Regards,
Maestro

relax? of course the director will say go to see it. do you expect him to say they again f... me up? they again shortened my movie?

This is X3 all over again. That line that Story said about watching the movie and then judge, same crap that Penn and Kinberg said last year.

90 minutes is the average for TV films, comedies or cartoon movies like Happy Feet or Shrek. Films with (supposedly) more significant themes tend to weigh in a bit longer.

To be fair to Story, he'd be out of the movie business a bit sharpish if he up and said "sorry guys, thoe b@stard suits have gone and cut the flick to pieces again".

Maybe down the line he will be in a position to offer an up-front opinion on his feelings with both FF films and how they were edited beyond his control (we know the first one was, probably safe to assume the 2nd has been too), but for now I'd take anything he says as simply towing the company line. Can't blame the guy for that, he wants to make a living after all.

Hey, I don't blame him, I'm just saying it's the same thing Penn and Kinberg said last year. All of it comes down to the movie was chopped to pieces...that's just how it is I guess.

While I'm disappointed in the running time... I'll still see it in the theater. I mean, really... I want to see the FF on the big screen... and that outweighs my feelings about the how long the movie is.

There are plenty of reasons that I was unhappy with the first film, but there were reasons I enjoyed it too. I expect that I'll have the same feelings with this one.

In the end, I've come to realize that the movie FF is NOT the comic FF - and shouldn't even be expected to be. As long as Fox owns the property for the movies, it will be this way.

I can either enjoy what's being released for what it is... or I resign myself to never, ever seeing the FF in any form on the big-screen in my lifetime. I'm not sure how long Fox's hold on the FF license will last... and I can guarantee that it would be another decade or two before Marvel or another production company would consider releasing a remake once Fox's license lapses.

So... knowing I may never see a truly faithful adaptation of my favorite heroes on the big screen in my lifetime... I'm not going to let something as small as running time spoil my theater experience.

Wise words :whatever:

Well, we'll just have to see how it pans out. The good thing about this is that FOX kept everything under wraps so at least we won't know what's missing this time round.

Do any of your 2004ers remember the Thing Clay Busts in Alicia's window? LOL

I have to admit, I'm not too terribly concerned with the running time, 90 some odd minutes can make a good movie, it reduces dumb story lines, and tells the story nicely; what I am concerned with is forking over $9.75 if not more for a ticket, and then sitting through how many God awful commercials! Ya wanna get mad at something get mad at that :wow:

Don't worry, everyone. The power of the Fishburne shall overcome the ****ty running time.

i think what some people dont get is that some scens from the trailer and tv spot will not be in the movie. at least this is what i think.

so the: at least it will look good. well you dont knwo that. it ocould be that you favorite scene will not be in hte movie because tehy shortened the movie and they cut it out.

only god can help us. i was so hyped about the SS character.

I think they get that, most know that some scenes won't make it into the movie....but I think the ones they are talking about the most are the SS scenes, and I would love to know of those scenes which one you think won't make it into the movie....

I think people just want to go into the theatre and enjoy it, and the way they are going to do that is not speculate the hell out of it before they get there.....

What I want to know is, what possessed them to only make it 90 minutes? I'm going to assume because they're not a Superman/Batman/Spider-Man franchise they don't get the respect, but I wonder how long Favs is going to get Iron Man to run. With all those A-listers in the cast, you know you've got some major pull, but the same should've been done with FF.

I do indeed :csad:

Did we ever get an explanation for that? Especially the bust that looked a lot more like the comic book Thing? (If I remember right there were 3 different busts we saw)

Alicia had a window? And here I thought all that girl did was drink - (in a bar, and at the party at the end).
