Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern

Nevermind that, he's even really good in his comedic roles!

Yay. I would have preferred Cooper but RR is all sorts of awesome as well.

I would've preferred Cooper, but it's not like Reynolds is a bad choice. Anyone who doubts his acting should check out The Nines; amazing movie.
I like Cooper and all, but I mean, Ryan fits the role of Hal SOOOO much better. Cooper would be better as Guy.

I see him more as The Flash
He coulda been a good Flash, but he is an amazing choice for GL. He probably wasnt the first person you thought of, but when you do, you can see it. He looks like Hal(alot actually) and he has the mannerisms for Hal.

I dont think we have to worry much about RR's acting, he can do comedy, he can do drama-serious stuff. Plus with campbell on board he is sure to find that right mix.

This guy is a goofball actor. Not to mention, a leftover from his horrible comic book movie roles.

Before you judge go and watch some REAL movies. Not silly frat boy comedies and comic book movies.

Egghh some of the recent noobs have been doing my nut it. I'm sure they come here just to try and wind people up. No one can be this ignorant surely?

For those of you who don't frequent the fan art thread, check out wobbly's awesome manip of Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern:

This looks more amazing everytime I see it.

^Have you seen any of his non comedic roles? He's actually a very capable dramatic actor.

C'mon guys - dont you know that all the cool kids hate stuff just for the sake of it, often flying in the face of fact or general consensus just for an opportunity to diss. That's what makes them so darned badass; Vis is simply showing us how awesome he is.

>sigh<

Why cant we be part of the cool hater crowd. I guess our damn common sense and good taste and judgement gets in the way of that happening.

Wow, I didn't even know they were casting for GL, and I come to find out that Ryan Reynolds is being cast. I heard rumors of him playing the Flash. If it were Wally Flash, it would be perfect, but since he got cast for GL, i'm still excited. He is a good actor, and I can't wait to see what he does.

Remember, people were nashing Heath Ledger as Joker before TDK came out, and they were blown away. Maybe this will turnover some more fans.

Far from a noob, I was here when this website was call SpiderManHype! (2000) but that's another story...

I've seen him in several non-comic book/comedies films, he's one of those actors where I never believe that he is the said character whom he's portraying. He's like a male version of Megan Fox, talent wise.

To hell with the cool crowd, and I don't care about what the general consensus is on this actor. I personally think they've could have done much better, than a guy who was horrible at playing a comic book/comic book-type character twice. Again, he just isn't believable in any of his roles.
Remember, people were nashing Heath Ledger as Joker before TDK came out, and they were blown away.
But Heath Ledger has always been a good and believable actor. This guy, not so much.

Obviously you're entitled to your opinion on Ryan Reynolds, Vis, but it's far different from what I or most others on here think of him.

You talk about how horrible he was at playing his two comic book roles. Yet he was just about the only enjoyable part of the hot mess that was Blade Trinity. And despite the fact that Fox completely and utterly botched the Deadpool character on so many levels in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, ryan Reynolds - through the sheer virtue of his performance with limited screen time alone - made fans want to see him portray Deadpool again in a spin-off film.

Outside of his comic roles, I think Reynolds has been a consistent performer, even if the film's he's been in haven't been consistent in quality. He is an inherently likeable screen presence, with a natural star power and charisma. He might not have been the best choice for Green Lantern, certainly not the most imaginative. But it was certainly a solid choice, picking a talented, dependable, bankable actor for the role of Green Lantern.

Yes, Blade Trinity was a hot mess, and Reynolds and Jessica Biel was a big part of why it was, they were acting as if they fell onto the set unintentionally. You see, to me, his performance makes me not want to see him in any comic book film, let alone any other film. Yet, I do like giving actors a chance to see them in various roles, so it's not that I'm not open minded. It's just that I've seen him in enough various films to say NO to this casting.

I'll check this film out, just because of the name Green Lantern, and because I know that there is potential for an epic Sci-Fi superhero film to be born. But with a goofball of an actor like this, he needs to step up his game. Could he surprise me, sure, but I'm not placing any bets on it?

I agree with some, I do not like R.Reynolds as GL. Does not work for me. Furthermore, he was the fans fav for Wally West, and I do not consider true acting as a prostitution of an actor who could possibly play perfectly both characters, Wally West and Hal Jordan. The characters are different. That and the fact I think he is not a good actor, maybe not "horrible" but not good. Period. Reynolds has been pushing to have a superhero role anyway. Well, he got it. I hope the movie won't screw, right now, I feel that it will be like transformers or Hancock : big budget, big massive HUUUUUUGE action, and of course funny moments, oh and sad moments too, of course, to show the GL is human too.
I'll keep seeing GL as a comicbook entity anyway, the action-packed movie ? meeh. Food for dogs. Fed up of those adaptations, like nothing exists if it is not shown in a movie.

If people doubt Reynolds actual acting ability, go watch The Nines. He plays three different characters in that film, all of which are believable and none of which are his usual "goofball" self.

That film wasn't commercially successful, but pretty much EVERY critic worth listening to praised the film and in particular, Reynolds performance.

Reynolds usually plays the wise ass characters because that just comes naturally to him and he enjoys it. He could EASILY maintain a lucrative career just playing those roles that are easy for him. But he should be commended for trying out different roles such as in The Nines, Fireflies in the Garden and his new film Buried.

You're wasting your breath there, Ace. I think Reynolds has already been labelled by some select few on here and I think it would take quite some effort to change their minds. Watching the Nines would be a start, but somehow, I dont think they'd be willing to give it ago..................

Speaking of which, Vis - yeah, your name rings a bell. I do seem to recall someone having that username on Spidermanhype.

Been a while.

people kinda made up their minds on certain actors. One of my pet peeves is when people bash Leonardo DiCaprio.

Everyone says that, guy. :awesome: <-- haha, I finally used that silly flapjack smilie.

It may be true but still, how long you have been around means literally nothing.

i don't think people care if someone's been here since spidermanhype. is that bragging rights?

Well it shouldn't matter I suppose.

Someone who has been here since 2000 could talk absolute wet. Some one who has been here 1 day good bring a up a brilliant point. And vice versa.

But when people say guys like Reynolds are just "goofballs" it shows to me they don't have a clue what they are talking about.
