The title is pretty self explanatory, what do you think the saddest moment is in all of the comicbook movies made thus far?

Mine is an unlikely choice, it's Hulk's last scene in TIH when he's having a quiet moment with betty then the spotlight from the helicopter beams on him and he gives a big sigh before having to go on the run again. I found this sad because it showed hulk wasn't this big scary monster and just wanted to be left alone but would constantly be hounded by the army, never allowed to be happy.

BTW sorry if there is already a thread like this.

Too many to name for me to be honest

Jeans death at the end of X2

Harry's deaht in Spidey 3

And Hulk finally finding Betty in San Fran spring to mind though.

For me it's easily when Uncle Ben died. I got this big lump in my throat when that happened. I knew what was going to happen, but it still was so sad to see how it happened.

Jean's death in X2 just left me with this ominous feeling that stayed with me until film end when I saw she wasn't actually dead and started literally jumping for joy in the middle of the feild (I was at the drive-in).

Im going to have to agree with E-Man. Everytime i see the scene of Uncle Ben dying while Peter holds his hand i get teary eyed. A close second would probably be in Batman Begins where young Bruce says "Alfred, its my fault they died if i hadn't gotten scared" then Alfred consoles Bruce.

Rachel's death in TDK really got me. I never really feel sad when there is a sad moment in a comic movie. That was one of the first times, actually.

Jor-El and Lara's farawell to baby Kal-El/Krypton's destruction --Superman The Movie

Superman's beatdown --Superman Returns

.

Penguin's death in Batman Returns. I felt for him and for the little penguins saying farewell to his beloved master.

Penguin being booed, tomatoed and then chased after his failed speech.

Superman talking to Jason in Superman Returns, knowing he's his son but that because of him being Superman it'll be difficult for them to have a normal relationship. And in spite of that him being happy.

The last scenes of The Incredible Hulk, but I'm talking of the 1977 pilot. And then the last scenes of the episode "Married" of the same TV series (1978) were even sadder.

The Dark Knight- From the beginning till it ended

Hulk (2003) - When Bruce's mom dies.

Batman Begins - The super quick flashback of Bruce playing around with his father's stethoscope. Short but effective.

Watchmen - Rorschach's death scene

Those are the only two that kind of made me sad. A lot of the others are so melodramatic that I even kind of giggled (eg Harry's death in SM3, Rachaels death in TDK,etc)...well in Rachael's case she was just annoying so I was happy she was out of the franchise already. And when I saw SM1 in theaters I busted out laughing at Uncle Ben's death scene (even though it wasn't funny and I felt sorry for Peter) because this old woman was pointing and laughing whenever he tried to talk.

I think they really missed some powerful emotional scenes with Magneto from the X-men films. I thought the holocaust scene was good but not enough...and I always felt sorry for Mags in the comics because he has a really good reason to be so bitter and angry.
Also Watchmen when its revealed that the comedian is Laurie's father...I felt that Malin's acting was kind of poor in that scene

Saddest? I think I'll have to go with Jean's "death" in X-2 as well. It was set up so perfectly in the film with different moments when the phoenix emerged. That moment at the end also showed that she was the most powerful of all. To take control of the most powerful mind in the world? That's something indeed.

OH WAIT - Saddest moment for me is between young Bruce and Alfred after his parents die in BB. Gets me EVERY TIME.

-this is definitly on top and/or on par with the one below, for me. Cliff Robertson was incredible.

On level with Uncle Bens Death Scene was
-The Ending moment in 300 where Leonidas goes "My Queen! My wife. My love" its one of those scenes where no matter what you need to stop and give it your full attention to appretiate its greatness.

others i'd say are:

-the scene were Harvey Dent was screaming when he saw the coin, in the hospital. also epic. people always say how music can make the scene, but sometimes the lack of music/sound makes it even better.

-When Frank's family is slaughtered in the 2004 version of the Punisher. The whole scene is terrifying(for the most part) and though you know his wife and kid are gonna die, its pretty thrilling.

-Also from the Punisher is when the kid with the piercings gets tortured. his acting seems so strong and realistic.

The Crow:
Flashback scenes
and at the end where eric rests at shelly's grave, shelly's spirit approaches him and he just vanishes

That's what I was gonna say. :yay:

The end of 'The Crow' is not only the saddest, but also the most beautiful moment in a comic book film ever, imo.

definately the crow

it's good that someone mentioned penguin in batman returns , excellent rendition of the character.

rachel dawes death and harvey dent being destroyed was probably the saddest for me.

Val Kilmer breaks the 4th wall and smiles to the camera in Batman Forever. Saddest moment in a comicbook film for me.

Also in TDK, Heath saying : "we're destined to do this forever" and knowing it's not going to happen:csad:.

"Road to Perdition" - When Mike rushes home only to find Michael sitting in the darkened dining room...Mike races up the stairs but we stay with Michael and all we hear is Mike's agonizing scream over finding his wife and younger son, Peter, dead...

As far as Superhero-Based CB films, I don't find any of it 'Sad'...'Emotional' yes, but I don't think a Super Hero film will ever depress me to the point of tears or the like.

Now as far as 'Emotional'...I'd say Superman handling Lois' dead body and screaming to the heavens before taking off to turn the Earth is one of, if not the, best examples...there's some pretty good material in 'Dark Knight,' 'Watchmen,' 'Mask of the Phantasm,' 'Hulk,' 'Superman Returns' and 'Spider-Man II.'

I've been known to be moved by Super Hero films from time to time, when the right emotional level is hit or if it's just such a poignant and gorgeous moment (The Penguin being dragged into the water by the Penguins, for instance) but never to the point where I feel the need to cry...

But who knows...maybe that'll happen someday. Honestly, I wouldn't mind all to much, since that'll just mean that THAT Super Hero film (the one that actually makes me weep) obviously did something tremendously right on an emotional level.

Superman Returns-Jor-el voiceover as Supes flys into space after hearing Lois and Richard. Then sitting quietly in space listening.

Returns Again- Lifting the island and fall.

Spidey- Ben's death.

Spidey 2- Peter's confession to Aunt May about the night of Ben's death.

The death of Pa Kent in Superman 1

The bitter-sweet short reunion of Betty and Bruce in San Francisco in Hulk

The death of Yinsen in Iron Man

The death of Uncle Ben in Spider-Man

Betty's dream in Hulk

Bruce's mother's death at the hands of his father in Hulk

Rachel's death in TDK

Two-Face Harvey's death in TDK

Jean's sacrifice in X2

The last sequence with Rogue and Wolverine atop the Statue of Liberty in X1

Lois Lane's death in Superman 1

That's about all I've got.

Val Kilmer breaks the 4th wall and smiles to the camera in Batman Forever. Saddest moment in a comicbook film for me.

I hate that movie as much as the next guy, but isn't he looking a bit to screen-right? Or are we not talking about the scene at Chase's apartment?
