Anybody who has seen 'Mad Men' knows John Slattery is a brilliant actor
but that sounds awesomeJohn Slattery, meanwhile, is a good actor, but with him, I think we'd be looking at more of a humorless, uber-hardened JJJ, like that from the '90's animated series.

That's why we have Spider-Man, he handles the funny. It's almost like they gave JJJ Spider-Man's personality. JJJ needs to be more serious than humorous. The moment he becomes a clown, so does everything that he says about Spidey's villains and Spider-Man himself, including the Daily Bugle as a newspaper becoming a circus.

JJJ has always been over the top and comic relief. He is the embodiment of over the top. The man smokes a huge cigar 24/7 and thinks a man saving children from fire is criminal behavior.©KAW;19125980 said:No more characters made into a silly and cheesy cartoonish actors. I've had enough of the childish comic relief JJJ in Raimi's films to last me a lifetime.
There's a way to make JJJ seem mean, sarcastic and serious at the same time--without turning him into a cheesy character of himself. Let's treat The Daily Bugle with some damn respect. And not have characters like Hoffman and JJJ playing The Two Stooges and basically making Spider-Man's villains seem like non-threatening and happy-go-lucky men in tights. The Daily Bugle needs to be a serious establishment that introduces and broadcast dangerous super-powered killers.
Give real reasons why Spider-Man is dangerous in the eyes of JJJ, he interferes with police business, he puts more people in harms way when fighting these super-powered beings, he and the villains causes property damage in the millions. Not everyone gets to see Spider-Man saving lives. This would actually make JJJ seem credible to some New Yorkers, given them some good and legit reasons NOT to like Spider-Man.
Its really annoying when people say that there is more to JJ than comic relief.
When has he been anything else. He serves two purposes: The guy who hates spider-man and represents the public's dislike of him and to be the comic relief.
Whenever Stan lee wrote him he always wrote him as comic relief. Sure there was the occasional serious stuff (scorpion etc) but 9 times out of 10 he was there for pure laughs.
I don't want an overly serious JJJ and I don't want a cheesefest JJJ. I want something inbetween. He should be a quite serious person who is still funny at times due to his over the top persona.
It's like when you find someone over-the-top aggressive and angry person to be funny because of his over the top reactions, not because he is cartoonish and goofy.

Simmons was yelling 90% of the time. But that is what he was in Raimi's filmsSimmons was yelling 90% of the time.

Err..Not S.Elliot again in a marvel movie. He might fit the role perfect and be a great actor, but he has played already 2 marvel characters.
