Iron Man 2 Sam Rockwell is Justin Hammer

Did Hammer swearing he'll get revenge against Pepper for putting him away smelled like sequel hook to anyone else?

Yeah, notice they didn't read his Miranda rights, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets off because of a technicality like that.

It looked to me like Hammer looked up at Tony and wanted to be pals with him, to enter the cool club, rather than destroy him. He only turned against Tony after he had dissed him numerous times.
I know they are business rivals, but Tony could have kept the pretenses and smiled through his teeth. Instead he was very very rude and arrogant.

That's because Tony knew the guy was a fake...he could see right through him. It was pretty clear that Hammer was playing the nice guy simply for appearances. You can't try and be buddy buddy with someone while secretly trying to copy their work.

The fact was that he was incredibly jealous of Tony and his accomplishments and wanted what he had. That's why he tried to secretly replicate the Iron Man tech (which Tony exposed at the Senate hearing) and tried his best to get Vanko to help him. He wanted to be as big, if not bigger than Tony.

The scene at the expo? That was his time to shine and he fell flat on his face with the dance (though awesome, lol) and that lame joke about ink that no one seemed to get.

He wants to be Tony Stark but he can't...Tony has no problems reminding him of said fact.

I really didn't like Hammer in the Movie. Sam is a great actor and I would've loved to see his performance as a more competent and menacing competitor and not just simply playing a loser version of Tony Stark.

I could see Hammer returning in the Avengers movie in a similar role as Lex Luthor in Superman II. Can't you just see him weaseling up to some one like Loki or the Skrulls, trying to get in with "the winning team"?

I was really worried Rockwell was going to do a RDJ impression for Hammer but I was quite impressed with how much I enjoyed his performance and his character. Hammer wasn't this like evil IwannakillTonyStark corporate dude. He actually seemed like he wanted to be Anthony Stark's buddy and when he got spurned he just really wanted to prove to everybody he was on his level.

Sam Rockwell I thought did well with his role. I wouldn't say it was 'Justin Hammer' buuut he was pretty entertaining. Maybe he should have been givin another name. Hammer isn't really a well known character, so the liberty taken was no big deal.

There was no anchor as far as his position of weapon manufacture, I would have liked some evidence of his depth in being the C.E.O. and name of the brand, he did have the governments weapon contract, he only claimed one weapon- that was funny, and yea he
did make the war machine
. The 616 Hammer was more ruthless...and old as hell. He screamed once at Vanko.

I've never seen Rockwell in anything before, he seemed more talented than what he was given, but he was so funny, I needed him not to dance at Stark Expo, to Average White Band 'pick up the pieces' no less. :woot:. He played along well, I agree w/ the post tho about the annoying version of Stark to quick and succesful to be such the chump, but he was just the backer. I enjoyed his role, ill look for him in upcoming movies.

I loved his explanation for "the ex-wife"

I was cracking up when he mentions something about the missle writing a book...then it will read it to you too. :hehe:

Sam Rockwell was amazing.

I hope he doesn't just return for IM3, but other characters' movies. Too bad Marvel doesn't have Spider-Man, he'd be a great villain for him too. Loved the dance and the cheese. My audience didn't seem to pick up on the intentional lameness of the character for the most part, but I thought he was pretty great. The dynamic (or lack thereof?) between him and Vanko was so good.

What an amazing actor. I didn't know Rockwell was even going to be in the movie, or that they were going with the Justin Hammer story, until about a month ago.

He just reminded me of every great Bond villian from the Connery years. You know the ones that never get their hands dirty, but are the masterminds behind everything. It was just incredible.

He didn't seem like much of a mastermind though.

I just want to say thank you to Rockwell for his depiction of Hammer. He was every bit as good as RDJ was. I couldn't get enough him.

Who said he was supposed to be a "mastermind"? He was an arms dealer. Cocky, yet insecure at the same time. He had me cracking up the whole movie.

I commented on the post above me.

Sam Rockwell was fantastic. His character was supposed to be kind of lame and it's the reason Stark gets through the hearings by pointing to his flaws. He doesn't come off as a total hack though because he is almost successful in seeing his plan come to fruition.

I'd be disappointed if we don't get to see him play Hammer again and hopefully he does get let out on a technicality or for some shady reason.

Yup, that to me was the moment that Hammers character got serious. Up until that time, I really dont think he was a 'bad guy' per se, just a bit of a goofball opportunist, desperate to step out of Tony's rather large shadow - but I think should he return for a sequel he'll be feulled by rage and a need for revenge following a stretch in prison.

I didnt like how much on an idiot Hammer was. I mean, the drones heads were falling off, his missile was ineffective, etc. Ok his tech is not as good as Stark's, but why is it sooooo bad?

Partly, I think it was more a device to show just how good Tony's tech actually is as much as it was for comic relief.

It was also a plot device for Hammer to ally himslef with Vanko, once he realised that Vanko had tech on the level of Tony's.

I thought Hammer was really one of the highlights of the film. I hope they do bring him back in IM3.

I know that Justin Hammer in this film was vastly different from his comic book version. But, Rockwell I feel gave the 2nd best performance of this film! He was awesome, and I love what they did with his character. Had they made him like he is in the comic, he'd be Stane without a suit. They needed to somehow distinguish him, and the solution they came up with was great. He added humor and threat to the film. I loved his used care salesman-esque sales scenes, lol!

I loved him. I loved how he was a wannabe Tony Stark. I loved that he was always trying to impress people with his fake tan, the fly suits, the ice cream from Italy etc.

I sorta had some sympathy for him too. Sure he was a little twerp, but he was just trying so hard to be cool with Tony, and Tony was just like "pfft".

He's like one of those guys at a party where he is trying to impress everyone but it all just backfires on him. You think "haha what a prick". But you also think "awww bless him, he's trying so hard" :funny:

Rockwell did a great job of playing up the wannabe Tony Stark, but also have an original character too. Obviously its a big variation of its comic book counterpart, but i lover the spin Rockwell put on it, straddling the line of taking himself serious and then not at all.

I think Hammer could be a great villain for IM3. Played less for comic relief and more rage and villainy.

All the things he said about that bullet were gold, simply GOLD.
