New Line Developing Earthquake Film San Andreas: 3D

Source: 24 Frames
December 2, 2011

24 Frames is reporting that New Line Cinema is developing an earthquake disaster film titled San Andreas: 3D, written by Allan Loeb. Loeb's credits include 21, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and the upcoming Rock of Ages.

The film is about the Big One and is described as follows:

[T]he hero is forced to go on the road to reconcile with his children and his estranged wife, who's moved away and taken up with another man a la John Cusack's character in "2012." (According to a person who's read the script, the "San Andreas" hero makes the trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco using some rather, er, unconventional transportation.)

The movie is being produced by Beau Flynn (Journey to the Center of the Earth, Red Dawn).

Did they really have to copy and paste Cusack's character from 2012?

And when I first saw the title, I thought they were making a movie based off of GTA. :o

Brad Peyton, director of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, is in talks to direct New Line Cinema's San Andreas 3D, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.

First announced late last year, the project, which deals with a massive earthquake hitting California, was written by Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore with Allan Loeb performing rewrites.

Peyton also recently became attached to the Warner Bros. comic book property Lobo.

Disappointed that this isn't GTA. San Andreas would make the best hood movie ever.

I thought they were finally making a GTA movie, oh well.

This doesn't even sound fun in a dumb way. More like in a 'Exec looking what will fill the four quad demo' kind of way.

Lost's Carlton Cuse Writing 3D Earthquake Movie

Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse is New Line Cinema's new hire to scribe the no doubt eye-popping earthquake film San Andreas: 3D. "Story takes place when a massive quake strikes California and centers on one man who must make the treacherous journey across the state to rescue his estranged daughter," Variety reports. If you thought Cuse made that island crazy, wait and see what type of wild Californian mythology this quake unearths.

Californian mythology? What sort of mythology do we have? I guess Bigfoot maybe? Perhaps the Chupacabra?

Dwayne Johnson will star in New Line's earthquake disaster movie, San Andreas, says The Hollywood Reporter. He will reteam with his Journey 2: The Mysterious Island director Brad Peyton on the film, being produced by Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson.

The studio is planning to start filming in April, 2014 for a 2015 release date. According to the trade, "the script is set after a devastating earthquake hits California and centers on a man making a perilous trip across the state to rescue his estranged daughter. Johnson will play that man, described as a rugged rescue helicopter pilot."

Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore wrote the first draft of the script with Chad and Carey Hayes working on the most current draft.

A "rugged rescue helicopter pilot" eh? :funny: This could be a fun effects spectacle for those into 3D.

December 5, 2013

Already one of the more crowded years for major releases, 2015 is now getting split right down the middle with Brad Peyton's San Andreas, starring Dwayne Johnson, targeted to shake theaters in 3D on June 5, 2015.

Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore wrote the first draft of the script with Chad and Carey Hayes recently having provided a rewrite. Set in the aftermath of a devastating California earthquake, San Andreas follows a helicopter pilot (Johnson) and his quest to save his estranged daughter.

The June 5 release puts the Warner Bros. film up against 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks Animation's B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations. It should also face some stiff competition in its second week as Universal's Jurassic World opens June 12.

The teaser needs to be The Rock standing at the site of an earthquake;

Finally The Rock has come back to... California.

San Andreas fault, let me understand this.... you think you can stop The Rock from going to see his daughter? Well let The Rock explain this, Friday. June 5th. 2015. The Rock is gonna lay the smacketh down on your candy ass!

No, no don't feel bad earthquake. The night you shook California, you got down on your knees and prayed to God. "God, I'm an earthquake, can you help me? Because I ABSOLUTELY SUCK!"

Then the heavens open and God says "Little hurricane", "I'm not a hurricane I'm an eart-" "IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT NATURAL DISASTER YOU ARE! You are absolutely right you do suck, but there is one thing you can do, you can find the daughter of the man who is absolutely electrifying. You must return her to The Rock." "But God, anybody but The Rock" "KNOW YOUR ROLE AND SHUT YOUR MOUTH!"

Then, earthquake you look up at the heavens, and tears roll down your cheek, piss rolls down your pants and millions.... of heavenly voices all said to you in unison; IF YA SMELLLLLLLL WHAT THE ROCK. IS. COOKIN'

Seriously. Dwayne Johnson better punch an earthquake in the face in this movie.

By Garth Franklin Thursday January 2nd 2014 04:10AM
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson never seems to slow down. He's slated to finish his filming commitments on "Fast and Furious 7" in the first half of the year, and now he's spoken about his next project after that - New Line's "San Andreas 3D".
He confirms that filming on the project is slated to begin in April in Brisbane, Australia. Johnson calls it "the first ever big 3D earthquake disaster film."
He also says: "I'm cautiously excited to start shooting 'Not Without Hope'. To tell this story and become this man is truly an honor."
That project he's referring to is Relativity's film based on Nick Schuyler's book about a 2009 fishing trip to the Gulf of Mexico that turned disastrous when their boat capsized.
