I definitely want Scarecrow to return in "The Dark Knight". But I don't think he needs a major role. I'd be happy just to have him appear at the end of the film, maybe help break Joker out of Arkham or something. A nice little "HOLY CRAP HE'S BACK I FORGOT ABOUT HIM!" moment, that sets up a bigger role for part 3.

I think Nolan is down with the Scarecrow.

there's going to be so much going on in 3 though. i figure he's going to get neutralized somehow in TDK. just speculation, of course.

The most important thing is, obviously, the mask. Personally, I think it should be re-tooled. Mind you, I'm not alluding to the "Stage 2" mask (which, if memory serves, was only intended to be used in an overdriven hallucination scene). I'm thinking Crane needs a new mask altogether, one that represents a fairly significant departure from the one he uses in Begins.

The escalation theme practically necessitates this, as does Crane's descent into madness and his acceptance of his role in society as a full-fledged self-serving criminal. It would only make sense for him to rework the mask to better embody the scarecrow archetype. Kind of an "If I'm The Scarecrow, I'd damn well better look the part" attitude.

I do think, however, that Crane should retain some sense of self (i.e. an understanding that he is, fundamentally, Thomas Crane). The straight jacket + smart suit getup he sports towards the end of BB is, I think, a nod to this idea. To take that idea to the next level, I say the powers that be give him something like a black leather trench coat to represent the Crane side of the character, and then stereotypical scarecrow attire to represent the demented side. Raggedy gloves; beat-up work boots; torn, baggy pants; a slightly pointed hat--the works.

And to top it all off: a straight jacket strap where the trench coat's belt should be. :woot:

here's our answer :) thanks to Gil419.

Scarecrow is on the right in the first shot

I really can't imagine how amazing it'll be.

Okay so what does Scarecrow do in TDK? Does he have his own gang? I doubt it. We know he interacts with the Joker and it could may well involve fear gas/Joker venom considering his background.

This photo comes from the same set where Cowleen saw mobsters under attack from gunfire, no? Scarecrow might be the Jokers pawn of sorts, attacking mobsters on his behalf. There's also that casting side where a drug dealer is imagining bugs all over his body, suspicious.

I guess this photo puts a rest to all the Scarecrow costume speculation. He might be properly crazy now, but he's still wearing an ordinary black suit.

Scarecrow's back! YAY!

This news just made my day. I did think that it was likely Cillian Murphy would return, but it's nice to see it confirmed. And also:

Black suit > straitjacket

I'm just hoping that the shot to the head with that taser made him a little more unstable.

I dunno about that. If anything, I'm hoping Scarecrow's a little LESS crazed than he was at the end of "Batman Begins". Still mad, yes, but with the passage of time he's gotten a bit more rational.

With The Joker around - and especially if Scarecrow will be teaming with him - I think it's better if Scarecrow play the "straight man", if that makes any sense.

He'll help joker to create the "joker toxin", or maybe just to let the joker going crazy!
HE's the one that have the right background for do that!!!

this sounds interesting!!!

Grant Morrison's graphic novel Arkham Asylum suggests that the Joker's mental state is in fact a previously unprecedented form of "super-sanity," a form of ultra-sensory perception. It also suggests that he has no true personality of his own, that on any given day he can be a harmless clown or a vicious killer, depending on which would benefit him the most. Later, during the Knightfall saga, after Scarecrow and the Joker team up and kidnap the mayor of Gotham City, Scarecrow turns on the Joker and uses his fear gas to see what Joker is afraid of. To Scarecrow's surprise, the gas has no effect on Joker, who in turn beats him with a chair. In Morrison's JLA title, the Martian Manhunter rewires his own brain in order to think like the Joker, and later briefly rewires the Joker's brain to create momentary sanity. In those few moments, the Joker realizes that he had to reevaluate his life and seemed to regret his various murders. He is returned to his usual self soon afterward.

So is that definately scarecrow in the pic? And how do you know he interacts with the joker?
I'm loving the whole idea

the guy in the blue shirt looks like he's holding a canister of some sort, like a fire extinguisher. Maybe to spray gas effects? Also it looks like Scarecrow has just hopped out of that van.

It'd cool if someone went to open the van door and a rush of gas blasts out, Scarecrow emerging and standing in a cloud.

I just like it in the comics when he sings those creepy nursery rhymes and i don't think he'd do that unless he was a little more unhinged than he was. A double-dose of his toxin and electricity to the brain seem like it would leave a lasting effect on him.

I was never really keen on Jeph Loeb's nursery-rhyme spouting take on the character. I preferred the way he was written in Knightfall: insane, but in a cold, calculating manner.
