- Crane?
- No, Scarecrow.

I swear I completely crapped my pants right there. They had to remove me from the theater immediately but at least I got to see one of the most memorable moments in the history of Batman movies.

Seriously, Murphy nailed that role and I was so glad with the way they handled my favourite Batman villain. Everything about him was so spot on! The lines, the creepiness, the distorted voice, the hallucinations, the ice-cold eyes etc. Yes, his screentime was quite limited but he sure made the most of it so it didn't really bother me. Under-using is not as bad as over-using IMO. You know what I mean? Every time Murphy was on screen, I was completely lovin' it. I never felt dissappointed about the fact that his role wasn't any bigger. He still had some of the most badass scenes in the entire movie(gassing Falcone, gassing Batman). So it's not about the screentime but it's about what the character/actor does with the time he is given.

Blasphemy!

And SalaciousVC, nice pic. I love that Scarecrow.

I loved Scarecrow in the first movie and, about the question in the pool...I think he will die by Joker's hands. I don't really think we'll have a Joker gas.

So it was a great performance according to some in here, under 2 minutes. To me, the BB scarescrow was just a guy in some potato sack mask. There really was no development of character to define the actual SC from the comics.

finally, someone who also understands that nolans version of the scarecrow sucked ass. he was boring.

crane was a fasinating character. i dont find him boring at all. he was more than just a man in a mask. i dont get how some say he wasnt in scarecrow mode enough and others say he was just a guy in a mask, thats hardly consistant. But for me every time he was on screen he we discover some extra power he has to wit:

we first meet him as a guy who can influence court decisons.
we then find he is corrupt and in league with the mafia.
he appears and takes care of falcone who is thee most feared powerful man in the city and crane takes him out.
crane nearly kills batman and rachel and it was his expertise that weaponised the gas used by terrorists. and now hes completely insanse to boot.

depends on your definition of development. if it means giving him a backstory and learning what he did before the movie started then no. but if you take it as building his character as the movie progresses expanding his threat then its there.

My Thougst:

. Scarecrow shows up with his Goons, trying to buy weapons from the Chechens. On that scena, they talk about the Head of the operation, a little strange guy who likes walk with a Umbrella.

. Batman shows up and confronts Crane. The Doctor doesn't take his mask anymore. Not after being hit in the face by the eletric protection thing.

. Batman loses Crane in a Shopping parking area, when Reese, the Fake Batman, shows up to kill the Chechens.

. After some scenes, Crane is his apartment, making fear gas drugs, when Joker shows up. He offers Crane all the money he can get if the doctor make a Venom Gas to the Clow Prince of Crime. Crane accepts.

. After other scenes, Crane is ending the Venom Gas when Joker shows up, about breaking in Bruce Wayne's Party. He asks if the gas is Ready. Crane shays that it his, but there are some problems in the toxins. They lock the victim's internal system, frozing the smile in their faces. Joker infects Crane with the Gas and Lock the Mask in His face. Gordon finds him in coma.

. In the movie ending. Joker is being condut to his cell in Arkham an sees Crane, in a straightjacket, singing ''Hush'' completelly crazy. Joker smiles.

yea Nolan wont kill scarecrow I remember him saying something about how he wants arkham to develop aswell and he will put it to good use, Batmans a defender even of bad guys he wont kill crane, and Crane is too big of a undead character to kill, Loeb dies though, which is awesome, Does anyone think with the talk of the reporter being hungup on bruce wayne and evealing his identity it could be edward nygma? or maybe he will be the fake batman wannabe? you know he couldnt be batman so he wants to destroy him, im thinking nolan is cooking some riddler plot up to do with his ego being threatened by batman and thats how he will come about in nolans "real world"

:whatever:'
Did you want him to get a bunch of themed goons?
Perhaps use a scythe..

I have no idea what you really wanted out of him but I felt he was perfect. Scarecrow really doesnt have much going for him and Cillian did a fantastic job making me actually like that character.

WORD. Murphy was so creepy. He became a star in my eyes in 2005. That and Red Eye.

But he was just a pawn through the whole thing, and I believe you could see enough of his character moving forward from creepy asylum guy to creepy hooded freak who will now try to muscle his way through Gotham.

That was the good thing about BB, the villains were not in the spot light like what we have been given with the past four films. They served there purpose in the story, we got enough to understand why they were there. And yes there was a little progression for him, just not a very big one.

It was just enough to understand that changes were taking place and that there was going to be more done with him.

Plus for the enviroment he was in, I dont think the comic look would work at all. He had to keep secert about his expirments, so a mask was just fine enough to do what he needed. Cause fear.

Please GTFO. :o

If you don't like what you see here!

GET THE FUNK OUT! GET THE FUNK OUT!

Its not like SC really was a well developed character anyway. I dunno those 2 mins were like the best villain in the batman series next to nicholson so far.

Better then catwoman and penguin???? even if you hate burtons take on the characters most people agree they still where amazing acting in these roles.

As I said else where, I thought Scarecrow was under-used, he could have been improved into an A-list villain but instead was along the pawn lines. Granted, that didn't stop Cillian Murphy from putting on a great performance. What was there, was excellent. For me, Scarecrow was the second most vital character to the entire movie behind Batman. He brought the comic book vibe to the film...the Scarecrow character made way for such scenes as Bat-demon, zombie Gotham, and a red-eyed fire breathing horse.

Granted, I disliked his "potato sack and suit" look. Wait...the potato sack was fine, but it wasn't enough. And I feel he was stripped of what could have been an awesome costume simply for the sake of 'realism'. But I loved his last scene, while in a straight jacket on a fire breathing horse.

Just because it's awesome:

That look was awesome! Crane is my favourite Batman villain because he is an expert when it comes to the human mind. The man is superbly educated and has a brilliant academic background. Of course a doctor of psychology would wear a suit. I loved the fact that they didn't make Crane some ugly old creep who sneaks in the shadows wearing rags and robes. In the movie he really came off as an expert and a gifted scientist. And when he used his mask, the overall effect was just amazing. I mean the guy is a psychiatrist and a doctor of psychology! He should be helping people with his brilliant mind but instead of that he turned to life of crime and became twisted and corrupt. It's so fascinating and "the mask and the suit" look underlined that perfectly IMO.

Yes I liked Scarecrow more then Penguin and Catwoman. I never said that they were bad. I just like Cillians portrayl of the character.. I liked Penguin and Catwoman. Penguin I quote all the time "I could have a nose gushing blood" or "Ill teach her my french flipper trick" but as I said before like a broken record I felt Cillian did an amazing job and I am always entertained when I watch him on the screen.

I especially liked how Cillian did a subtle job in his character by making him a mental bully and have him be a little chicken and girl when things weren't going his way.

Carry me out.

Tell me a good scarecrow story where we get into his psyche that could have been incorporated into BB I would love to read it
Year One: Batman/Scarecrow

The story only works if Scarecrow is the main villain, which obviously wasn't the case with BB. But the story does delve a lot in Scarecrow's motivations, and connects them with Bruce's own tragic past.

Is he really connected to Bruce..sure why not. Is it out of print or something?

Is that the one where he was like afraid of crows or something?

I don't remember if he was the one afraid of crows, but he did use them to kill people.

This is one of the covers:
