I think that this is a really valid discovery. If it's combustable, that means it can be used as fuel, and if it can be used as fuel, and if it can be used as fuel, then it's an alternative to hydrocarbons and fossil fuels, and that's an important discovery.

Does anyone find the irony in the fact that they may have found a cleaner way to use fuel, but it will require us to essentially burn the ocean away.

You DO realize how the environment works?
Kind of like evaporation to condensation...

Not if the Hydrogen is burned out of it. It will essentially be used away. Not to mention the amount that would be need to to run every car. It will eventually throw off the Salt/Fresh Water balance.

Dude, have you ever heard of a little thing called the law of conservation of mass and energy? The hydrogen won't disappear, it'll still be here.

Actually the way this process works is the salt water is exposed to radio waves which break apart the bonds holding the molecules together. The hydrogen is then what actually burns, via this chemical reaction:



2H2 + O2 --> 2H2O


So, as you can see, it does turn back into water. Pretty much they're breaking it apart, just so that they can put it back together again.

that's bulls**t and you know it...some oil company will buy the patent to the process, and then even if we could do that with the right developement, they'll see to it that we never do...time to start living in the real world, where nothing ever changes for the better like that.
