Dewey and Sidney are only friends by circumstance and by the end of that film Sidney's lost everyone from Woodsboro accept him and nearly lost him again. Lost all the new friends she made in college and her boyfriend she cared about.

I maintain that the emotional state Scream 2 leaves Sidney in (hell she went into hiding because of it) makes it the darkest in the series thus far.

Scream 2 doesn't strike me as dark for some reason. Just the overall tone to me is a lot goofier and much less mean-spirited than the original.

Scream 2 does have the most brutal moment in the series: Randy's death. I still haven't gotten over that; never will.

Agreed, lol. Randy's death was brutal, but I think it was gonig to happen sooner or later.

Scream 2 is **** tons darker than Scream 1 in my opinion. Every one of Sidney's friends is dead. She has no one by the end of that movie.

I think Scream 2 has a lighter ending. Basically Gale becomes more humanized , Cotton and Sid reconcile , and the killers aren't as close to Sidney. It's still a terrible ordeal but in the others she was forced to kill her long lost brother and a boyfriend. Also Sidney has a closer connection to Dewey than Randy .

It seems like she's gone through too much at this point to just get killed off but who knows.

Also I think Randy was in suspect or victim territory , I wasn't expecting him to survive or Gale but I like that they kept Dewey alive.

The Halloween franchise should have ended with H20, but greed ruined it.

I hope Sidney doesn't die in this. Her dying to me would make the previous movies so pointless.

I think how Sidney gets out of dying Scream 2 (agreeing to do a Diane Sawyer interview with Cotton) is more darkly humorous. Bringing the whole sending up the media and meta attention people loved back then, before reality television could have been Timothy Olyphant's outlet.

But overall Sidney is left with no one. Her only high school friend left was Randy and he had a death that still bugs me (they killed the best character when Gale is just asking for it!). Her college boyfriend and roommate were murdered and her other college friend turned out to be one of the killers.

That's a bad week. She latches onto Dewy and Gale in Scream 3 because other than her dad, they're the only people she really knows that are still alive.

But Scream 1 was more menacing. I do think they went with a more straight forward slasher though in Scream 3 and that is the only one I didn't like.

As for whose going to bite it in Scream 4? I'm saying it's going to be Sidney. They didn't see the Arquette separation/divorce comping when it was written and shot. And they want to start fresh, which means they're going to need a new protagonist. Well you have to clear the deck of the old protagonist to do that.

Albeit, it is too bad that Sidney survived all that crap only to get killed off 10 years later in a trip back to the wlel. Or not, we shall see.

Gale is the best character in this series. She's the most realistic of them all. In a situation like this there'd totally be a Gale Weathers.

I hope not. But perhaps the only way for it to all end is to accept it and die. Kind of like Ripley in Alien 3.

I'm kind of hoping for the alternative of her disapearing, but wouldn't she be found? So wouldn't it be better for her to die to end it all?

She will most likely die and I think it'll come off good and the previous films will not become pointles.
