Scrubs: Season 8 on a new network

I think if they put cole into a stable relationship with lucy (is that the new protagonists name? can't remember) and had him grow out of his *****iness it'd make his character more interesting. give him some development ya know?

They already started doing that last week? Didn't you catch it at the end.

The problem with the new characters is that they're... not the old characters. What doomed this show from the get-go was that fans weren't going to ever let it be entertaining just because it wasn't J.D. and the old gang.

A good effort, but it's never easy to continue when the audience has got some invisible line in their head that you'll never cross.

Like I said I like the new characters except Cole.

Cole can have all the character development he wants, hes still annoying. Cox is an ass as was Kelso most episodes but they are still funny when they arnt being developed

I like Cold, Drew, and the Australian chick, but I don't like Lucy. She comes across as a JD rip off, which is one of the reasons she fails as the lead. She doesn't bring anything new from her perspective.

This is true.

I liked how J.D.'s little speech to Lucy about how she'd need a new mentor when he leaves could easily be applied to the fans... who will need a new character to call their own when Braff's last episode airs in a few weeks.

I disagree. It wasn't the fans fault. It was the writing staffs. Fans reacted very positively to Denise (who for all intents purposes is still a new character, at least as far as regulars go) and Drew. Why did they react well to these characters? Because they are new! Cole and Lucy are not. As Cereal mentioned, Cole is pretty much a watered down, annoying version of the Todd with none of the likability brought by Robert Maschio. And Lucy is JD redux only not nearly as funny and with a little bit of Elliot's more annoying qualities thrown in. Factor in that the actress lacks any sense of comedic acting and does not have Braff's charm or talent and all we are left with are the character's worse qualities. We've already seen these characters and these stories. That is why people have responded so badly. Not because its new, but because it isn't.

The funny thing about that was I believe that Bill Lawrence said Lucy was an amalgamation of JD, Elliot, and Turk. The only problem is, whatever happened to the Turk in her? There's nothing in Lucy that reminds you of Turk. Haha maybe it's because Turk's the only one staying, but like I said earlier, Lucy wouldn't have been as annoying if she wasn't the main character. Once again Drew should've been made the main character.

Bravo Matt, bravo. :awesome:

Okay...why isn't Sunny one of the main characters? I'd rather see Sunny, Cole and Drew as the leads.

Sadly the only good parts of this episode were Kelso and Denise stealing Drew's money. The rest was just meh.

Loved the Sunny, Denise, and Drew parts. JD's story was okay but again it's something I felt that has been touched on before. And Lucy's story reminded me of the first episode of Scrubs, not ironic since she is JD-lite. Cox was awesome as always.

I thought tonight's episode was great, very funny and felt more like a Scrubs episode. I think the writers have finally found a nice footing with the new characters as I love Denise and Drew and even Cole and Lucy have been less annoying for the last 2 episodes. I love how they poke fun of themselves with jokes about JD leaving and the "last eagle before the next last eagle."

They both have four letters in their name? :cwink:

Agreed. Drew was the natural choice for the focus. I don't know why Lawrence went with Lucy.

Drew is only the natural choice to YOU ALL because you are all a bunch of anti-social mysanthropes like he is

I think they should switch the focus around between the new characters

Hey man if you want to watch JD version 2 all year and run through the same lessons as the previous seasons, more power to you. At least Drew's character is fresh.

I caught like the last 15 minutes (playing MW2) I came to Scrubs late anyway...I didn't start watching the show till it hit reruns at Comedy Central about 2 years ago...prior to that I ahd never watched it when it was on NBC

Yeah, Drew is the only new character that isn't copying off an old one. Lucy is basically JD and Elliot. Cole is a straight Todd.

Agreed...

And making Drew the focus would completely re-write his character anyway. It's hard to be the weird/anti-social/mysterious guy when you're the one telling the story.

Lucy's character certainly needs work, but they're hammering it out. And I'm actually getting used to Cole.

I honestly don't see what's so horrible about the new cast. Are they good enough to sustain an 8 year series? Highly doubtful. But they're not as unbearable as a lot of posters here make them seem.

I think we'll get a much better look at them with Braff gone and the show actually focusing on them. They were dedicating half of the show's 22 or so minutes to J.D. and his antics up until now.

How many episodes is Zack Braff slated for?

I've always read that he was contracted for six episodes.

He left after the 5th. He's scheduled to come back again down the road a ways and (for the only time this season, really, if you exclude that 20 second clip in the premier) share the screen with Sarah Chalke.

Chalke is going to appear 3-4 more times, I know, so she'll be filling the gap left by Braff a little bit.

Too bad Judy Reyes isn't contracted to return as Carla, even for a small cameo.
