Scrubs: Season 8 on a new network

The past episode scored a terrible 1.3 in the ratings. The worst ratings it has ever gotten for a new episode. It went up against nothing but reruns on top of that on the other networks. With Braff gone for a while, I bet it gets worse.

Coming into the season I had my reservations about it, but I held out hope that Bill Lawrence would make it work. It has been terrible, save the original characters. I wonder how long ABC will keep it going?

They're going to air 2 episodes a week now. It's pretty much dead.

Neil Flynn is lucky that The Middle got picked up for a full season.

I didn't catch last week's episode. Are the Zach Braff episodes finished?

There was a new episode tonight. Turk replaced J.D. with [BLACKOUT]Denise[/BLACKOUT]. Lucy replaced J.D. with [BLACKOUT]Elliot[/BLACKOUT].

Ugh, Lucy is even more unbearable without JD carrying half the load. Once again, the bright parts are the old cast (The Turk/Kelso scene and the Turk/Todd scene) and Drew who ought to have been the focus.

You know the saddest part about crappy new Scrubs? Its not destroying the old show's legacy, because...well, the old Scrubs is still great. The problem is, its dragged down Better Off Ted with it. Better Off Ted is great and I can't help but think if it were on Wednesday with ABC's successful comedies.

I completely agree. The oldies are on point as usual, but Lucy is terrible.

BOT is actually in danger of being canceled and it should be on Wednesday. Pairing it with Cougar Town and Modern Family would be incredible ratings wise.

Better Off Ted is currently one of the most clever comedies on TV and I feel like its pairing with Scrubs combined with no advertisment has resulted in it being completely overlooked. It should definitely be on Wednesday.

Man Drew lit this current episode up. Lucy's character is dragging...

Better of Ted could have filled half of the timeslot left behind by Eastwick, or even the whole timeslot with back-to-back episodes, but instead ABC chose to move Ugly Betty to that timeslot opposite a show on NBC nobody watches and CSI New York, which apparently people still watch.

I missed this episode.

I definitely agree.

I wanted Lucy to be a good character, and I wanted to like her, but the writers and Bill Lawrence missed one crucial detail that I'm surprised they missed. You shouldn't make new versions of your old characters. They should've made Drew the main character since he is the most originally written characters of all of them.

And JD? Don't get me started on JD. I'll be honest, I wasn't too annoyed by JD the last few seasons as I am this season. It feels like for every mature moment he has an episode he has five immature moments where he is more insecure than ever. I felt as though they could've made JD a little mature while keeping him funny. I didn't fully want his immaturity to go away, but it seems like they made it worse than he ever was before.

I will tell you all one thing that no one can disagree with at this point. Scrubs is the Bret Farve of television. Whenever it is planned to go off the air, it somehow comes back, like Bret Farve this season with Vikings. Also like Bret Farve, it seems to be getting weaker by the episode.

I get the feeling that Scrubs, along with Bret Farve, will probably be going away after this month.

And I hope it doesn't drag down better off ted with it. I really liked the first season and I see the potential to make this an even better show.

Tonight's episode was the best of this season. Reason why? It was Drew-centric. Lucy had her role reduced to the B-plot and it REALLY helped when you only had to deal with her in a few scenes while Drew carried the load. If only it was this way from the beginning. :(

Mat, that's exactly what I thought. This is how the new season should've been from the start. Now I wanna know more about what happened in Drew's past.

New episode on now?

Uh. Looks like they finally hit a stride. Two really strong episodes. I actually liked Cole in the second episode and of course Drew and Denise messing with the security cart was funny.

cole actually showed a little depth.

and drew REALLY needs to be the center of the show.

Drew reminds me of a younger less cynical Dr. Cox. Basically how I pictured Dr. Cox when he was younger.

This is why Drew should've been the main character. Sure, the story is the same as the original Scrubs in that we're watching characters develop into doctors, or in this case graduate med school. But Drew gives a bit of a different dynamic. He's returning to med school after ten years, may have wasted that decade away because of his attitude and is back making up for past time. He's a more interesting character. Heck, his presence caused Denise to grow a bit as a character and put on a dress.

Lucy was tolerable in both episodes, but that's because the first was on Drew, the second one was divided well between Lucy/Cole, Turk/Cox, and Denise/Drew. Both were solid

JD hasn't been in the last 3 or 4 episodes. Will he be coming back? I thought he has one episode left.

He's set to show up in ep 10 or 11 I believe. It's going to be JD/Elliot centric.

I hate when they do that. It's their way of trying to get you to watch the whole season. I had hoped JD would be in six consecutive episodes. :cmad:

Um. So we're going to blame them for trying to improve their ratings now?

I wouldn't care as much if the episodes without J.D. were actually good.
