Daredevil Season 1, Episode 7 "Stick" (USE SPOILER TAGS!)

The episode is one of the most necessary ones, it gives Matt's physical backstory and builds for a future season, it is also referenced in the following episode.

One thing I do not like is that the series since the start established Matt and Frank being fresh out of college and internship program, but the episode says first that Matt was 10 years or a bit older when he first met Stick, and Stick says it took Matt 20 years to get out of that grip, making Matt a 30 years or a bit older character.

can anyone tell me what comic (vol, #) this dialog is from?

Starts at 0:28:29 in S1 E7 on Netflix

Stick: What a ****hole.

Matt: You have any idea what I pay in rent?

Stick: Expensive ****hole.

through

Stick: "Boo-hoo. Stick left me. Think I'll bury my sorrows between the legs of a supermodel."

It's not, to my knowledge. Fits everything Stick would say, but it's not literally his dialogue (particularly because there wasn't really any profanity, even censored, at the time Stick was a living character).

I feel like people have this prejudice against episodes that don't advance the overall arc. If an episode is good or does character work, it isn't filler. Filler should only be used for the bad episodes that fail to accomplish anything, whether that thing is character work, plot work, or a different type of idea.
it's all about timing, I suppose. filler isn't always necessarily bad. this was a filler episode in terms of the narrative, but it was a necessary filler for the series itself, to expand on the character's origins. and it felt like just the right time to do an episode for that.

recently the walking dead did a backstory for a character that a lot of people consider filler for legitimate reasons, but the problem in my opinion, was the timing. they had the episode be a followup to a cliffhanger that isn't resolved thus far.
