Okay, season 5 has 2 things going for it:
- Spectre of the Gun: a simply great standalone episode that tackles gun control in a surprisingly balanced way, quite amazing given it's a cW superhero show.
- the finale, the best finale of any Arrow season thus far, possibly one of the best episodes of the whole show.
However, otherwise I feel like the show meandered a lot, and could have dealt with its storylines in 13 episodes rather than 23.
I liked that the villains' motivation was completely personal, it wasn't some "blow up the world" plot or take over Star City, instead it was about destroying Ollie.
I felt that the whole Bratva storyline was totally unnecessary, and distracted us from the actual story.
While a lot of folks loved season 2, I felt that Slade's plan to cause **** and wreck stuff in Star city, with an army of super-steroid goons ....well it wasn't much of a plan.
In some ways I thought that Ra's Al Ghul had the best villain plot - because he wasn't looking to destroy Ollie or the city, he was looking for a successor.
All in all I'm not sure if I'd rank season 5 as the best, but it deserves big props for its finale which is certainly the best finale so far.
