Office Synopsis

SUPERGIRL” STAR AZIE TESFAI CO-WROTE THE EPISODE DIRECTED BY DAVID RAMSEY – Kelly (Azie Tesfai) is horrified when the Ormfell building implodes, injuring many in the community, including Joey (guest star Aiden Stoxx). However, her horror quickly turns to frustration when she realizes that the hospital is overwhelmed, people are getting sicker, and no one is coming to help – including Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) who is busy fighting Nyxly (Peta Sergeant). Knowing that she can make a difference, Kelly embraces her power and fully steps into her role as Guardian. Joined by Supergirl, Alex (Chyler Leigh), Diggle (guest star David Ramsey) and team, Guardian leads the way to restoring justice to the fallen community. The episode was directed by David Ramsey and written by J. Holtham & Azie Tesfai (#612). Original airdate 9/21/2021.

There was a preview after last week’s episode. I suspect it’s because David Ramsey has sway with the network and because the episode was co-written by Azie Tesfai

It was a pretty bad episode. Diggle has crossed between 4 shows and of those 4, 3 were to give pep talks to the fellow black characters because he's the Eldest/OG Arrowverse black character.

Diggle’s appearance was a nice surprise.

Diggle was the only saving grace of this episode. This may was all over the Arrowverse this year.

I know Kelly hasn't been around from the beginning, but Team Supergirl isn't just turning a blind eye to what she's doing. Supergirl has always been a hero of the people, not just the world. Someone ought to let her know that this city literally turned its back on Supergirl when she'd given in to that red kryptonite and lost everyone's trust.

Or the amount of times she's spoken directly to the people through some press conference on the news. Right now, they literally have a million and one things to deal with, and it can't be helped if that takes precedent over some building imploding. There's no need to antagonize or demonize the team like they're intentionally slighting Kelly or the people in that building. It's drama for drama's sake.

At this late stage, complaining about the sophomoric and ham-fisted writing seems pointless. More conspicuously disappointing: in the waning episodes of the series, the title character has no discernible arc. Indeed, Kara is mostly a supporting player in stories that alternately feature the other Super Friends.

Im disappointed that as a final season this doesn't seem final season-esque. It's business as normal that will likely include a rushed/crammed finale.

I rewatched the last 10mins of the episode because I forgot how they defeated Councilwoman Karen and...it was just that easy that Guardian stood on a roof and aimed an energy thing at her when she managed to stand still?

i don't think they take more then one pass on the scripts for this season. its not so much the concept for the episodes is bad its the exaction that is.

This was a boring episode which almost felt like a backdoor pilot for a Guardian TV show which I wouldn't be interested in watching. Supergirl feels like it's treading water at the moment and not really going anywhere.

I couldn’t find a link directly but Bleedingcol.com has a link to Michael Rosenbaum's Inside of You podcast with Azie Tesfa where they discussed a wide range of topics- and in particular, what it was like writing the episode, being a part of the long-running Arrowverse series, and more.

As bleedingcool is want to do the headline is misleading when it references the “problem with Supergirl”. “Tesfai relays the "origin story" that led to her writing "Blind Spots;" the episode's message of empowerment by showing that even the best intentions on the meta's parts can contribute to a much bigger problem:” The problem the episode tackles is how superheroes with the best of intentions can contribute to the very problems they want to help with, the heroes have blind spots just like everyone does. And that IMO is how “Blind Spots” contributed to the season as a whole and Kara helping people become their own heroes instead of feeling she had to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders.
