Comics Sensational Spider-man #34

He was actually pretty spot on with her continuity. For the past twenty years or so, Felicia has walked away victorius from fights with Sabertooth, Hydro-Man, and Scorpion.

We may not agree with it...it may not be "logical"...but by comparison of her past continuity, Lizard shouldnt have been any more of a problem for her, in that regard, then the other villains mentioned.

So no, i'd say Sacasa was once again on the money.

Aloha,
I'm trying to remember what issue did Black Cat get POWERED UP.

She also brutalized The Vulture in Millar's MKSM arc and beat down Spidey leaving him wrapped-up in his own webbing in that Kevin Smith mini... How? I have no idea... maybe they mixed-up her comic history with that of the 90's animated series in which she got her powers from a super soldier serum derivative or something like that...:whatever:

I love how Sacasa acknowledges continuity in this book. Black Cat remembering how she nearly died after what Doc Ock did to her back in the Ock/Owl gang war arc from the 80's, was a treat.

That was one of the better Spider-Man stories of the 80's... and unfortunately, Doc Ock's last good story for the following 19 years. (His next good tale being in Jenkins' PPSM 4 parter circa 2002)

I don't agree with that. I really enjoyed the Sinister Six stories, Web of Death [even though the ending sucked], the Sensational Spider-Man arc where he tried to destroy the Bugle, the Death and Destiny mini etc.

Even JMS' Ock story was good *GASP* :cwink:

I liked JMS' story as well, but it came after Jenkins' tale. :cwink:

All I remember after that final battle in Spectacular #79 was a weak willed Ock who was frightened by Spider-Man... maybe Marvel wanted to develop the character in some way, or take a different approach, but it didn't work. And Micheline's Sinister Six storyline of the early 90's (this would be over 10 years later after SSM #79) just seemed "forced" to me... no explanation as to how Ock recovered and just appeared as a generic "boss" leader. It wasn't the same ruthless Ock that I had known, and that terrible Larson art didn't help.

But that's just my opinion... I'm glad that some people liked it.

Actually, Micheline's Sinister Six story was 7 years later after Spectacular #79 :cwink:

As for Ock's recovery, it was done in ASM #296 and 297. Ock decided to kill New York by unleashing some deadly plague of bacteria, thus ensuring Spider-Man would die.

Spidey faked defeat at Ock's hands, to make Ock renege on his plan to kill the whole city, and it restored his self confidence.

I remember that last story... with the John Byrne cover... it seemed like a filler story to me.

What sort of a power-up did she get? I remember in issue 115, Dr. Strange stripped her of her bad luck powers.

She was given a "bad luck" power, so that anyone near her would befall to bad luck.

Wasn't that 2-parter's covers and interiors done by Alex Saviuk?

Yes to both questions... and Byrne did the cover to ASM #296 while Saviuk did the cover to ASM #297.

I could never stomach Saviuk's art... :cmad:

Ah-- ok, I was wondering if that's all it was... So, did she ever get that back after Dr. Strange removed it in 115? I would like to think it's that bad luck power or some variation of it that makes her so able to handily defeat super-powered enemies. This is the issue:

She did but lost them again in one of the early ASM 340s, (I don't remember the exact issue number,) when Spidey used a machine that "removed" his powers, (though they were actually just suppressed,) and in using the machine to reverse the process she lost hers due to proximity. The machine was destroyed and that was the end of her abilities. She later got some devices from the tinkerer to enhance her natural athletic abilities making her more cat-like in agility and balance. Crappy idea, in my opinion. I liked her better with her powers.

I actually liked his appearance in the Fantastic Four in the late 80s when he was needed to help Sue with complications from her pregnancy. I don't remember the issue number but he was very timid and afraid until he saw a billboard of spider-man and that got him in a rage. Reed ended up having to fight him before getting him to the hospital and talking him into helping Sue. It was too late, if I recall correctly.

It was Fantasti Four #267 :yay:

(I'm such a know-it-all... :( )

Even JMS' Ock story was good *GASP* :cwink:

Not to mention his story from Spider-Man Unlimited #3, which was a delight.

It delved into Ock's past a bit more, and had him THISCLOSE to curing the aids virus, if not for that infernal arachnid!

That issue is one of my favorites.

How could I forget Unlimited #3?? Where we finally learned the secrets of his past. Showed us how similar his life was to Peter Parker's.

A fantastic issue, and left everyone feeling a little sorry for Ock at the end, I reckon.

As I said over in the Official Sensational Spidey thread....

Another solid issue for this series. Black Cat is one of my favorite Spidey supporting characters and it was good to see Sacasa nail the character pretty well. I could see Sacasa writing a Black Cat series or miniseries. I'd much rather have him take JMS' place on ASM later this year though. :o
