Seth MacFarlane gets $200M to make content for Universal and NBC

Seth isn't without talent so good for him. Just hope it's good Seth and not bad Seth.

Well I hope it doesn't spell the end for the Orville.

Maybe one of those studios will pick it up? Seth is talented but very hit and miss

I guess this means he's killing the Orville?

And I heard CBS was trying to woo him with actual Trek IP...

Sources say no decisions have been made if The Orville will wrap with season three or continue on at the Disney-owned platform that is also the exclusive streaming home for both Family Guy and American Dad, with the former one of its most-watched acquired shows.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I hope not. It's what he wanted to do all along as he's a big Trek fan. And he has complete control over it and can make it how he wants, unlike actual Trek where he'll have to conform to what's going on at the moment and be bound by their constrictions.

How does a “development deal” work? :thf:

For instance, if MacFarlane creates and produces a new show for NBC, is this done for “free” - because he’s already been “pre-paid” from the $200M deal?

OTOH (and more likely), if MacFarlane gets his usual negotiated salary for specific services rendered (writing, directing, producing), what was the $200M for?

Not really. I mean, Shonda Rhimes got a big deal with Netflix, but ABC didn't kill off her two shows immediately. I get it feels a bit more confusing, due to McFarlane's more onscreen presence in his shows, but I doubt it would be an issue with the other networks wanted to keep his shows.

He’s going to be a busy guy in the next five years including

The pact also keeps MacFarlane a free agent when it comes to film work, meaning he's able to write, act, produce and direct for any studio as features remain a top priority for his Fuzzy Door banner.

I guess that would include the Family Guy movie. Wonder if he’d make an Orville movie after Season 3.
