Shameless

This season Fiona has morphed into Frank and Monica. Completely and utterly irresponsible. Ironically, Lip is slowly stepping up and morphing into Fiona's old role as the responsible elder sibling to take care of the younger ones

I kind of feel bad for Frank, Sammi and Sheila. That was messed up how he got his kidney stolen and they lost all that money.

How anyone could feel bad for Frank is beyond me. He deserves everything that happens to him.

I don't think it is ironic that Lip stepped in. He has always had more potential to be a guardian then Fiona. He step a good chunk of his life finding money for the family. Both Lip and Fiona have clashed on the idea of responsibility in the past. Remember her brilliant club night?

Frank had a good moment this last episode, I hope that he'll use the experience to learn something. Not holding my breath though.

Have you ever dealt with anyone with substance abuse problems? Someone who's part of your family or even a loved one? It's quite easy for people who have dealt with Frank's and Monica's to give them chance after chance or at the very least have sympathy/pity for them.

Lip is his own worst enemy. Though he's great at finding quick cash and over coming most of his obstacles, he often does these things in spite of himself. Most of his get rich quick schemes, had he been caught, would have led to him being locked up. Lip is my favorite character, but he's 60/40 con artist/family man, depending on the day.

Fiona on the other hand has been taking care of the family essentially her entire life she's screwed up royally this season, but given her track record, I'd say she's do to bounce back soon enough. Each of the Gallagher children have a bit of Frank and Monica in each of them. Whether or not they allow that bit through, is entirely up to them. We saw this with Lip while he was blowing off his academics, both this season and last season. Fiona's been caged up for so long, I thought she didn't have any of Frank and Monica in her... I assumed she was only drawn to unreliable *****es like Frank... But now we see she's not so far off from Frank at all. Ian's as unbalanced Monica. The jury's still out on Debs, Carl and Liam though.

Yeah, he'll be back to his tricks soon enough, I'm sure. I'm still interested in the "Frank's Dying" storyline... Bill Macy was crushing that storyline. And I'd be interested to see how Lip, Fiona and Ian deal with his death when they're not preoccupied with struggling with college, the possibility of prison time, and unknowingly dealing with mental illness, respectively.

Yes, lived through substance abuse problems. It goes far beyond that with Frank. Even when he is sober he is a piece of crap. I thought the last episode was telling. He was reliving moments from the past, making promises he never fulfilled.

Fiona has never actually taken care of the family by "herself". It is a misconception that she likes to facilitate. The truth is Lip and others has always been helping. Fiona doesn't have the skills to take care of the family on her own. Lip has never wanted to do it, but when forced to step in, he proved at least as capable as Fiona has ever been.

Not that I blame her. She did her best. But her self-pity is uncalled for.

I agree they all have parts of their parents, and while it does effect them, Lip is by far the most capable of the group. Which is surprising because it seems both Lip and Fiona got the worst of it as kids. They had no one to protect them.

Eh, I'd wager Fiona had less help than Lip currently does. I mean, she's the oldest... Maybe she asked Lip to watch after Ian and Debbie the same way Lip currently assigns Debbie to watch after Carl and Liam.

Right now, Lip's got the benefit of Shelia, V, Kev, Amanda, and Debbie. I left out Ian for obvious reasons.

I'm not saying one's better than the other, only that neither Lip nor Fiona are perfect parents because they're not parents. They're barely adults. They're doing the best they can with what they've got.

I think he'll do something good for his kids with that money he'll be getting soon. :cwink: Plus, if the actor playing Mickey doesn't get a couple of Best Supporting Actor nominations for this season... there's something seriously wrong with the people who judge shows nowadays. That fight scene was equally awesome and hilarious, loved it.

I actually really love the Mickey/Ian storyline. Mickey coming out was a huge moment and it was well-played.

We have seen Fiona's help. It was the same Lip had, minus his girlfriend.

Lip has been playing hustler for the family for years now. Probably before he was a teenager. There is not that much of an age gap between the two. Fiona is 22, maybe 23, and Lip is 19.

Also, I think it is important to realize that Fiona likes to see herself as a parent.

I loved the scene when they were getting arrested. Classic and yes, quite sweet.

Mickey has fast become my favorite character. I just LOVE that he's playing Mikey in the new TMNT movie

He is not my favorite, but I never thought I'd like him. I was completely wrong.

i just wanna say...this show is so bad but i cant stop watching it

I did find it interesting that Frank actually admitted that he did wrong with Fiona and Lip during his delirium with Emily. The whole "You could have frozen to death" was an admission of guilt that I don't think we've seen from him before.

I still don't think he's going to change, but it was good seeing that despite being a narcissistic bastard he harbors some sense of guilt deep inside.

well I will say that this is my least favorite season (too many of the characters are just flat out unlikeable with little rooting value now) but Im invested so I stick around. Its just not as good or interesting as the first 3 seasons. It definitetly feels different this year and not for the better

I actually feel like I'm rooting for more characters this year. It doesn't feel like the Fiona show this season.

Don't think it ever was, her storylines IMO were the most interesting in previous seasons. While her becoming her dad is a nice storyline but not as good as being the warden of the asylum.

That was a beautiful moment from the last episode. Sucks that the season ends this Sunday, but I can't wait to see how it all pans out. This show gets better and better with each episode, I find, and it's because these characters are always evolving and it feels natural. Never does this show get repetitious like most shows because it doesn't bother being the same thing over and over again, the show grows with its characters and it's brilliant to watch it all unfold. I think this is much better than the UK version, where I hated those character almost immediately, I found myself connecting with these characters almost immediately, characters like Debbie and Carl have really grown on me this season (loved the episode where Debbie and Lip go searching for Ian, their chemistry is just wonderful). All-in-all, this season better take home a lot of awards this season or else I'm gonna call BS because this is truly one of the best shows of all-time.

If you mean Fiona is harder to root for this season, then yes. But as a whole I feel this is its best year since Season 1. All of the other characters are shining and while Fiona's crash has been depressing, it has worked for her in seeing a new side of her character. I think it has at least.

I feel like early on, more so in seasons 1 and 2 Fiona/Steve and Frank got the lions share of the focus. Now as the younger kids get older, screen time seems to be more evenly divided.

I have found Fiona, Debbie, Lip and Ian to all be aggravating this season after loving them all in past years. Lip and Ian have become more tolerable in the last few episodes but the girls have little rooting value and are just infuriating to watch. Fiona is a hot mess and Debbie and her friends are beyond awful. I think the only Gallagher kids that have been consistently enjoyable to watch are Carl and Liam who does nothing.

Sheila's story has been stupid and nonsensical. She worked better as a character with Karen around. Now she feels really forced. V and Kevin remain interesting so they are a bright spot, but the Gallagher household, which is the main draw, just havent done it for me. The characters have bugged me more than entertain

I agree with you about Sheila. I really don't find her story entertaining or worth watching.

You know what I really enjoyed in this past episode? Kev sliding a shot over to Ian and giving him a knowing nod.
